Waaaay too sensitive

I receive a 15% reduction via this app, and drive super calm and relaxed. So good driver opinion shared here.

It’s overall unobtrusive, but it has a hair trigger for braking, turning and acceleration for regular daily commuting, it even flags eco-mode adaptive cruise control in highway start and stop traffic and penalizes you. It will penalize you for going 5kph over a speed limit. And I’m not sure what database it’s using for posted speed, but it will flag you for speeding in the weirdest places.

It also flags bus and bike rides as car trips, which can get annoying if you don’t notice and change the trip type.

Overall it does what it does and I appreciate the substantial reduction in insurance, but wow calibrate the accelerometer and update your posted speed database please, it’s a bit silly.

Tracking Not updating despite correct settings

I enabled Aviva Journey and ensured location access is set to “Always,” exactly as instructed. Still, my driving record hasn’t updated for more than a month. This is frustrating because the app seems to blame users for not giving permission, even when everything is set correctly. Please fix this issue so customers can rely on accurate tracking.

Don’t accept using this app

This app is absolutely trash don’t accept and don’t install it on your phone whatsoever even when you are a passenger still goes against you and at the end, this insurance is going to increase your rate traumatically I installed and used it on my phone for about a month and every trip I took even as a passenger it went against my driving record

Cannot login???

I have not been able to log in to this app for months. I’ve changed my password multiple times but no matter what I do, I always receive the “something went wrong, try again” alert and am now receiving messages that I will be unenrolled. Very frustrating

Good stuff

I honestly think all drivers should have this app to qualify for insurance, regardless of who’s insuring. I encounter so much stupidity on the road. Racing, speeding, shoulder driving.

Braking is terrible

I keep getting docked for braking when it’s just people brake checking me because they signal last second, it’s so unfair.

Awesome experience

Been using for 4 years

Getting petro gift cards every months great !!!

Distraction assessment

Overall the app is nice and intuitive. The only thing I believe could be improved is the way “distraction” (i.e. using mobile while driving) is assessed. In more than one situation I parked my car, walked somewhere else (a grocery store, for instance), and the app assumed I was using my mobile while driving. It doesn’t seem to understand when users are at the drive-thru, even though we are told the use of mobile devices in this situation will be understood as necessary; my rate for one trip went considerably down because I checked my phone while at the drive-thru.

not accurate

Inaccruate reading.

I always drive safely. I always keep distance, never tailgate, I very rarely go over the speed limit/I match traffic speed. I never pass cars and I always yield.

I am getting false scoring out of absolutely nothing.

10/100 scoring on braking from normal driving, and I usually always get 99 or 100 scoring.

Also, There are trips that I take where I am not the driver; my friends drive less safer than I do, and I get points deducted for it.

I understand that there are bad apples who could abuse the feature of selecting whether if you’re driver/passenger. But good drivers should not have to stress because of this.

Devs, please do whatever you gotta do, to accurately track good driver behaviors. Use AI if you have to lol

Ridiculous detection

How do the app know how did I perform in braking, cornering and even my wife is using me phone when I drive, it counted distracted driving. Funny

Aviva Journey App Review: Flawed Scoring System and Unfair Deductions

The Aviva Journey app claims to reward safe driving, but after extensive use (15 months), I’ve noticed a major flaw in its scoring system: no matter how perfectly you drive, you’re almost guaranteed to lose points. This is especially frustrating when deductions are made for factors outside of your control.

The “Context” Issue – Unavoidable Point Deductions

The biggest flaw in the app is the “Context” score. No matter how well I drove—maintaining speed limits, smooth cornering, controlled braking, and avoiding distractions—I could never get a perfect 100 because the app automatically deducted points for “Context.” This category is vague, and there’s no clear explanation of what exactly is being penalized. If a driver follows all the rules of the road and gets perfect scores in every other category, why should they still be penalized? It creates a situation where a flawless drive is technically impossible.

Phone Usage Tracking is Inaccurate

Another major issue is how the app tracks phone usage. I lost points for using my phone inside a stationary car during a car wash—clearly not a situation that should be counted as “distracted driving.” The app doesn’t differentiate between using your phone while stopped in a safe environment versus using it while actively driving. This raises concerns about its ability to fairly assess phone use on private property versus on the highway.

Braking Deductions are Unfair

One of the most unfair aspects of the app is how it penalizes braking. If another driver suddenly stops in front of you and you apply firm braking to avoid an accident, the app considers it “harsh braking” and deducts points. This is a serious flaw because responsible drivers should not be punished for reacting appropriately to sudden hazards. In real-world driving, not all braking is within a driver’s control—sometimes, it’s a matter of safety. The app fails to recognize this distinction.

Inconsistent Trip Times and Scores

Looking at my trip history, there are inconsistencies in how scores are applied. For example, two identical trips with similar durations resulted in different scores. If all factors are the same, why should one trip score 100 and another 99? The scoring system lacks transparency, leaving drivers guessing why they lost points.

Final Verdict

While the app is a good concept for promoting safe driving, its execution is flawed. The inability to achieve a perfect score due to arbitrary “Context” deductions makes it frustrating, and its inability to distinguish between safe phone use (such as when parked) and actual distracted driving makes it unreliable. Additionally, penalizing necessary braking in emergency situations shows a lack of real-world driving understanding. Aviva needs to improve the fairness and accuracy of its scoring system before this app can truly be considered a fair and effective tool for assessing driving behavior.

Finally 20% discount for upcoming year is never 20%, not even close. I was suppose to get 20% discount and only got 11%. When spoke to Aviva representative they said it up to 20%. When asked what can I do to get 20% they had no input or answer.

Road

I like this App because it shows me how I drive on every road I travel.

Very user-friendly

.

The App is not making sense

It rated me cornering on a straight road, accelerating on a 50km limit road, braking upon slowing down from 100 metres ahead when lights turned yellow. Basically, it is not designed for safety- it is just for purpose of making you aware "big brother is watching you " and you don't deserve more discount. That's all.

Needs Tuning

It’s a good app BUT hear me out! you can’t just keep constant speeds on highways, you need to drive considering road conditions, slow down and speed up! This brings my score wayyyy down!
