worst ever
If I could leave -5 stars I would!!!
I live in LA, which your team knew when I entered my addess during signup. But of course that didn’t stop you from pulling $40 from my account and giving me a credit for a service I can’t even use. And then I get the runaround from Siri’s less intelligent nephew bot. I gotta hand it to you…. It’s a great way to make quick cash when you’re still growing. But until I get my $$$ back and compensation for my time, this review will stay posted. If I can get one customer to run the other way, I’ve done my job. But we all know this review will lose way more customers than that. Make it right! Thank you. -Timothy Dove
Complete scam, benefit on fraudulent charges
2) what sort of scratches would cost $1000 dollars to repair?? I asked for photo proofs but they cannot offer those either, so it seems they just randomly charges customers of thousands of dollars and profit from them?
App crashes every time I try to end the rental
Additionally, their cars are not as well serviced as advertised. Admittedly you would hope also that people renting the car would have the common decency to clean after themselves or at least air out the car.
A great company that has become greedy with the amount they charge.
Recently however, their prices and fees have fallen dramatically behind their competitors. They no longer offer the ability to book a multi day trip for a flat fee which means instead of looking at gig cars my friends and I have booked cars through Zip car and Turo instead.
An 8 hour flat fee through gig car is about $107 with fees and zip car is $79 total.
My reason for writing this review is because of my most recent experience with them. I took a $17 ride from a friends house late at night. I parked infront of my apartment and was a foot too close to a fire hydrant. That $17 ride became a $361 one because I was charged $201 for a technician to come out and get the car and $146 for parking in an unauthorized place. I know I’m in the wrong. But it’s upsetting to be charged massive amounts that I can’t afford for a ticket that in Seattle would only cost $38. I will no longer be using this service and have advised all of the people I initially recommended it to to switch to their competitors.
So crazy expensive.
As far as the actual service—the car was easy to unlock and lock, it was pretty zippy, and the app was easy to navigate. But all that doesn’t negate my feelings re: the cost.
app is virtually unusable
If I do not review a car before leaving the app, the next time I enter, I’m forced to restart the app several times before it gets past the loading screen. an opaque white screen with a loading bar also sometimes hangs over while i have a car reserved, which does not prevent me from renting, but is annoying. The map seems like it’s trying to load too much data at once, and could instead load more than a 15 min walking radius if the user tries to pan out, due to its slowness at the beginning. I’m not sure if I would keep this app/keep using gig if the service itself wasn’t so convenient.
A huge headache, not worth the trouble.
Service 👍🏽 • Support 👎🏽
Support infrastructure-wise, it’s the Wild, Wild West out here. If you forget your belongings in your car, and the next user takes it - and they know exactly who it was, they won’t do anything about it because it’s “discriminatory.” Yes, this really happened to me. Someone rented a car sandwiched between two of my rentals. They smoked in the car, got mud all over the interior, left their trash, and took my backpack - which contained a pair of earphones from my gf for Xmas. The backpack was a gift from my best friend 😂. And yeah, the support I got was “We’ll keep an eye out and leave a voicemail to the person who used the car after you, but we can’t take any other actions. Even though it’s highly likely that it’s them.” Pretty sad.
Also, the app glitches a lot. If you parked somewhere kinda sketchy, make sure you force close the app and open it again at a safe place and have it ready to unlock the car. Otherwise you might be fumbling to get the car unlocked while you’re in an unsafe location.

Good service, terrible app.
The app, however, is pretty terrible. It crashes at least once per rental, it fails to open without a hard restart, and doesn’t update maps in a reliable way.
One feature the old car2go app had that was great was an alert when a car became available in a definable radius. I sure miss that feature, but given how unreliable the rest of the app is, it’s probably too much to ask.
Crashes every time
Not to mention that the last two times I’ve used it, I find out at my destination that I am outside the zone while still in Seattle city limits!!! Could we have a Google Maps connection so we can see if the place we are driving is in zone?
Lastly, customer service is horrible. Rude, actively unhelpful, and rude (saying that again). One time I called because I couldn’t figure out how to unlock the car (early in my usage). The person said that I would have to get a tow rather than just explaining to me how the app works (hint: you have to hit “unlock” even if the car is unlocked and you are inside and just want to start the car).
If there was any other service I would use it. I can’t afford to buy a car and I can’t take public transit, so I am forced to deal with this app.
Terrible Service, False Advertising, Rude Staff
Everything is perfect except one thing
Love the idea of Gig but awful refueling experience
(After my experience today I see why that is.)
On the way back from dropping my friend off, I tried refueling. The pump asked me for driver ID, looked around the app no ID me mentioned and no instructions of how to refuel. Ended up having to go to the cashier, they had no idea, ended up calling the line and eventually getting through to an agent, she tells me I have to call every time I refuel, good thing I had signal at least. After all that I eventually managed to refuel after wasting over 15 minutes that I apparently have to pay for… utter madness!!
Really good customer service! And convenient!
Though I do wish they have more cars, larger service area and lower rates.
So far though, best car rental system I’ve used (prefer this a lot more than zipcar, especially in terms of customer service and convenience).
Amazing service!
Terrible insurance/accident service
I retract my neg review from yesterday
International License Beware
The advertised 24 hour license reviews are simply nonexistent for international drivers license holders and the process to get this done is very clunky. The FAQ claims that there are additional documentation needed during signup, but there is nowhere to upload this so you’re expected to email these documents to them after the review is unsuccessful. I was told differently about the validity duration of the necessary driving report from the FAQs, the chat support, the phone support, in an email, and in a PDF attached to the same email.
If you were clear about the timing, required documents, and allowed the uploading of these documents during signup, I could have started this process before it was needed, I wouldn’t have wasted anybody’s time, and you would have actually made another customer.
Hopefully MILES or ShareNow can make it to the Bay Area; their signup on international licenses is smooth.
