Untrained staff
Non existent customer service Call centre, relationship manager and online chat all say completely different things Slow and unhelpful I have been with the bank for 20 years . There is no help from them and have untrained staff
Customer Service is nonexistent
App works well, tho some steps are either not available or difficult to navigate.
Emails and returning phone calls is nonexistent. Extremely disconcerting!

great job
Unable to sent transfer
HSBC expat are unable to complete an international transfer, and unable to tell me why for more than a year. For an expat account this should be their core business. Customer services is awful to nonexistent even when classed as a high value customer with a relationship director. Truly awful.
Good app, so-so customer service
The app itself is fine and works as well as any other banking app I’ve used. But HSBC’s customer service is not that good. I stopped getting confirmations for my payments and after more than two months it’s still not fixed. It can take weeks (if ever) to get a reply to an email inquiry, and then they prefer to call you back which never works due to the 8 hour time zone difference - and if you call them it can be very expensive! I’ve had the same experience with past inquiries, it’s always super slow communication and sometimes no reply whatsoever.

Not able to view credit card statement
I have a credit card but no access to the account on the app or download statements or easy payment to credit card from another HSBC account
No Future-Dated Payments, Poor Payments Journey
You cannot future-date a straightforward payment to a UK bank account in the HSBC Expat app, despite it being promoted as their primary, safest, and free channel for payments. You can only future date a payment using online banking incurring a flat GBP4 fee per transaction. Additionally, compared to the Barclays app, the payments journey is not intuitive or friendly. There is also no ability to set up a standing payment in the app. Debit cards require signing up for the Global Money Account add-on, whether needed or not. Fixing these basics would align with customer expectations.

Stone Age
I try to transfer money between HSBC global account on weekend, and finally need to wait for their office open on Monday to complete the task, we are in 21 century, not Stone Age
Forced updates
Absolute rubbish that the bank is not allowing access to the application unless it’s been updated. No warning, no count-down, just no access to your money.
Mobile Push feature is great. Excellent upgrade
Just updated the app — great to see the new bell icon and push notifications! I’ve enabled all notifications. This is a strong step forward for real-time engagement.
Avoid HSBC Expat
Without a doubt, the worst experience I’ve had with a financial institution. Multiple emails and calls to support with nothing but tail chasing in tight concentric circles. I would never trust my money to HSBC Expat after this experience.
Absolute bunch of thieves!!! Don’t even think about banking with them!!!!
Restricted my account after I provided all the details they requested. Stay clear of this bank. They never respond to any calls or emails. The Relationship Managers are next useless. Bad customer service- try somewhere else before you even think about HSBC Expat!!!!
Excellent Banking App!
The HSBC Banking app is easy to navigate, effective and super efficient. Best Banking app in our experience of many years and numerous Banks. Very happy indeed, 5 star plus!!
Worst process to open a new account
Tried to open an account.
Can only do it online.
Tried 3 times and got the error “Something went wrong” with no indication of WHAT went wrong.
Asked to call a number on the same error screen.
Most unhelpful reps on that line.
Keep sending me back to the website to open an account and asking about the error - well your error says nothing useful!
Ask to talk to a manager - won’t let me.
So they don’t know why people can’t open new accounts and don’t want to find out either.
Only large fat banks can operate this way.
Bottom line - after a week and multiple phone calls and online applications which ask for every personal data including a real time selfie - I have no call back, no idea on how to open an account.
They are a large global bank !!

One device limit
Previously I could have installed on both my iPhone or iPad, now I have to choose one. Not convenient banking
Relationship manager service
25 years with off shore premier and service levels continue to slide to dismal levels. Apologies really mean very little without action. Shifting funds elsewhere.
Fake 5 star reviews
The app is horrible . Crashes
HSBC have removed the mortgage interest rate from the quick details section
HSBC have cynically removed the mortgage interest rate from the quick details view for my expat mortgage account. This is especially annoying as the bank of England is now starting to cut interest rates and customers will want to see the immediate changes. Why remove something that is useful to customer? Presumably because it wasn’t useful to HSBC? And yes, I know I can look on my statements for this info. But as usual with HSBC, why keep something simple when it can be made more complicated.

Travel issues
Telephone banking is limited when travelling. The difficulty lies in memorising the telephone banking number. There needs to be an alternative access method for non sensitive enquiries.
