They are very quick to collect the fee when you send money, but they don't respond when you need a receipt.

I have been using MomeyGram since 2010. The service is good if you want the receiver to get the money as cash. However, if the receiver has the option to receive the money digitally (such as WAVE in the destination country ie look for the pingouin logo) don’t use MoneyGram. Instead, use SENDWAVE (look for the Yellow and black logo). SENDWAVE and WAVE are Linked for an instant money transfer for a flat fee of 0.99cents. You also have the option to send money directly to the receiver bank account if you have their ABA and account number. MoneyGram fees are too high. I stopped using MoneyGram in 2026. To be fair, MoneyGram is safe and easy to use. My only caveat is that its fees are too high.

One and Done
I tried MoneyGram for the first time yesterday. A simple transfer to a person’s checking account that was stated to happen “within minutes” is taking days. I tried to cancel within 30 minutes and was unable to do so. There are a plethora of ways to send money that are instantaneous. This is not one of them.

I got a new customer rate to send it to my friend in the Philippines online. I provided all of my information including my drivers license and they canceled my account claiming to protect me from being scammed. Then they said I can go in the store and pay for the transfer fee and they aren’t able to provide a voucher to remove the transfer fee. I asked the customer service lady what’s the difference from going to the store and providing all of the exact same information online. She couldn’t give me an answer. I would give it a 0 out of 5 if I can. Use Wise app than this trash service.
