Terrible company
Terrible company; they don't inform the MVD that you are insured with them, and as a result, the MVD has suspended my registration.
You pay what’s on your declaration page!
I was a Novo customer for six months and initially paid between $150–$180 per month based on my driving. After buying a new car in January 2026, my premium suddenly jumped to nearly $290 per month—even though I went from a supercharged turbo Volvo T6 to a Hyundai Elantra, which I expected would be less expensive to insure.
Wanting to understand why, I spent an entire month (May 27–June 26) driving as carefully as possible. I even downloaded two independent driving apps to track my acceleration. Both gave me a perfect score of 100.
Here’s what didn’t make sense: Novo also gave me a 100% driving score, yet my pricing score was only 90, which removed me from the top 10% of drivers and increased what I paid.
When I called customer service, I was told that Novo measures the movement of your phone—not the movement of your vehicle—to calculate acceleration. That means if your phone shifts, slides, or moves inside the car, it can affect your acceleration score and, ultimately, your pricing.
Before signing up, check your declarations page and divide the six-month premium by six so you know your actual monthly cost. Also, ask exactly how your driving is being scored and how that score translates into your premium.
This was my experience, and I think consumers deserve more transparency about how pricing scores are calculated.

This is a wonderful rate. Every time we have a concern they are prompt. Renewal is easy and quick. Our rate even went down!! We are so happy with NOVO
Sensitive Bluetooth reading
I don’t mind having to track my driving I’ve done it with other apps and companies but this one is so sensitive especially to “hard braking” it doesn’t allow you to decelerate any less than 7mph every second so I get big points deducted and when I drive well I only go up one point it makes it very hard to even concentrate on the road and on my driving when I’m constantly trying to manage the speed of everything to not get points deducted I even count now to keep track my last drive I didn’t even brake hard and counted on time but they still supposedly tracked “hard braking” and now my score has gone down 3 points for a one mile trip I accelerate and decelerate so slow I have cars almost running into the back of me it’s dangerous so I guess I’ll have to switch insurance companies again

Decent insurance terrible app
Insurance is decent and affordable. I don’t like I have to use an app to monitor how I drive to keep my rates down. That is seriously intrusive. And the app never stays connected to my car so it’s not getting all the data it needs. Would only recommend for those with older cars.
Response from developer
Hi there, thank you for your feedback. We're glad to hear you find our insurance affordable, but we're sorry to hear about your concerns with the app itself and driving data. We’d love the chance to help troubleshoot the connection issues and make sure you’re getting credit for your safe driving. Please feel free to reach out to our support team at 866-862-7757 so we can help make this right. Hope to hear from you! - Novo Customer Experience Manager
