Outdoorsy not support their hosts
We rented our camper van through Outdoorsy, and our last rental in 2025 ended our rental business completely.
Our last renter took the van without knowing how to properly operate it and somehow poured diesel fuel into the fresh water tank. To this day, I don’t understand how this happened. The water fill compartment requires a small key to open, while the diesel fuel fill is clearly located separately.
We were always responsive and available to help our renters with any questions.
What was most disappointing was how Outdoorsy handled the situation. From our experience, there was no meaningful investigation into what actually happened. We felt that the renter’s version of events was simply accepted, while as owners we were left with the damage and consequences.
Replacing the contaminated water system is estimated to cost us around $10,000. We simply don’t have that kind of money to repair it, so since that rental we have not been able to rent the van anymore. We still use the van ourselves - just without running water.
After this experience, I personally would not recommend Outdoorsy to other van owners. We believed that renting through a large platform would provide some level of protection when something serious happened. Unfortunately, when we actually needed that protection, we felt completely unsupported.
One renter’s mistake essentially ended our ability to rent our van, and we were left dealing with the financial consequences ourselves.

So easy even a cave man can do it!
This app has changed the game for me! My trailer use to just sit in the driveway.. Now I get to share it with folks exploring my huge backyard “Alaska”…
Terrible and crazy app with support
Terrible platform and extremely poor support. My vehicle was damaged by a renter, and for two months Outdoorsy has failed to properly resolve the case or compensate me. I also cannot recover the money from the renter because support keeps opening new reviews and repeatedly requesting information and evidence I have already submitted. The claims process is disorganized, slow, and unacceptable. Based on my experience, I strongly recommend avoiding Outdoorsy.

Great service and platform
I have been on both sides, a Host and renter before I bought. Always receive timely and great customer service. Excellent platform!
Could be better
I really don’t like that every time I open a message thread it starts at the top of the thread. The app is buggy. I upload post trip photos and sometimes it adds them sometimes it dosent.
