Why?

Why changing something that was working for a ridiculous app that has made the whole charging experience a nightmare?! I’ve got 2 EVs and since moving to Pod Home I’ve had to use expensive public charges many times because mine simply doesn’t work anymore. I simply cannot believe that a technology company does not have a single engineer capable to fix the mess they created. I’m considering removing my Pod Point and have been recommending everyone I know to completely avoid this company.

Administrative nightmare again..

After using pod point for years and getting the charger and app to be reasonably reliable, the move to the new app requires almost a full reset of reconnecting to wi-fi which requires many, many attempts before everything is connected again.

Now the new app says my charger is offline, (it’s not), the WiFi signal may be at fault ( it’s very strong) and we have no way of quickly sense checking if the car is charging or not. Last night we lost faith and went back to the granny charger to ensure the car was charged ready for work.

This has been a terrible migration experience and incredibly frustrating.

Hello, We’re sorry you’ve had a frustrating experience — this isn’t how the move to the Home app should feel. You shouldn't have to reconnect your charger to Wi-Fi as part of the migration so sounds like there is something else causing issues. Latest update broke everything

I use (try to) the app in basic charging mode since I have an EV electric tariff.
The latest update to the app and/or the Pod Solo 3S has completely broken the charging schedule feature. Now my vehicle starts charging immediately every time I plug it in regardless of time of day and no amount of restarting the device or locking/unlocking it via the app will fix it.
Not the first issue I’ve had with this charger/app - completely regretting my purchase, not at all worth the circa £1000 paid

Incorrect!

Just spent 1.5 hrs trying to get PodPoint to charge my car to 100%. My car app is set to 100%. PodPoint Home app says it will take its target charge from the car app. Well, it won’t. It insists on 80% target and as car already at 80%, it won’t trickle charge off Solar and refuses to charge, then says there is a fault. There is no fault. Have had to change to basic charging. That is ok but why shouldn’t I be able to set the car to 100% charge on smart charging so I can use solar or cheap overnight rate? Don’t trust it at all now. Very disappointing as we had it sorted with the old PodPoint app. Please don’t say “it will do X” when it won’t”.

Pointless and Stupid

Does not know what car I have plugged in. Activity updates about once a year. Randomly stops charging for no apparent reason. Impenetrable and unhelpful interface. Triumph of form over function. Cannot understand how dross like this gets out the door. Would happily shift chargers but forced to replace broken podpoint with new improved version that has not enabled OCPP even though it has it. And the authentication requirements are idiotic and send endless emails. Someone needs to get a grip.

And please, please do not cut and paste the stock response it’s gaslighting at it’s most insulting.

Totally Disfunctional

So I had to install this app to continue charging my Tesla with Octopus Go. Doing this and using smart charging stopped charging either via the Tesla App or Octopus Go.
Work around by Pod Point was to turn off smart charge and set a schedule for every day of the week.
Have now bought a 2nd EV and the only way to add this new car to the app is to turn on Smart Charging.
How can these people make an app so poor that it hijacks your previously perfect charging experience using the old app and do this. If your considering buying a charger and looking at apps, I cannot recommend you buy Pod Point

Hello, We’re sorry you’ve had a frustrating experience — this isn’t how charging should feel. We have just released our Always on feature in v2.3.0 of the app which is compatible with smart tariffs. If you are having issues, please reach out to our support team at pod-drive-support@podenergy.com.

Big brother!

Podpoint really, really, REALLY want to take control of your charging from you. This version of the app makes it very difficult (but not impossible to take back control). We have a plug-in but these cars are not even listed in the app and given the short charging time, won’t make much of a difference to the power network anyway.

Pointpoint, you need to explicitly handle PHEVs and recognise not everyone wants you to tell them when they can charge their car!

Regression from PodPoint

Initially I was very frustrated with the new App, but it is still possible to use schedule using Basic Charging. It’s a shame it doesn’t understand Octopus Agile tariff and the UI is badly designed. For example “Boost” means “Charge Now” not extra power in the charger. It’s possible to link it to VW account and then using VW App you can select if you want to charge to 80 or 100% depending on your planned trip.

Terrible for smart charging

Removes all the functionality of the previous app. I’m unable to set a schedule for charging and this app seems to ignore any of the smart EV tariff information that it insists you enter. Both cars have repeatedly not charged in the cheap EV tariff window. Very difficult to manage when you can’t reliably charge then expensive to have to use peak hours. Also unable to go back to the old app. Update was useless. Sort this out pod point! At this rate I’ll be installing a new car charger without this nonsense

Useless app

An absolutely useless and non-functional app. I have no idea why we were forced to switch to this new application when the old one worked perfectly fine.

There is a constant issue with unlocking the charger. Every single attempt ends with the same message: “Remote unlock failed due to a problem on our side. Please try again later.”

I already know the developer will reply saying that they’re working on it and that the issue will be fixed in a future update. The real question is: how exactly am I supposed to use my car until then?!

An app like this is supposed to make charging easier, not leave users stranded because basic functionality doesn’t work.

Car stopped charging

Since updating to the new version of the app, my car has stopped charging to the target charge %.
At first I thought it could be a quirk with the “smart” eco charging or whatever it is, so I found the setting to turn it dumb again. Alas, no, it behaved the same, started the scheduled charge at 00:30 and then just stopped and failed to complete the charge. POS.

Downgrade from Pod Point app with ongoing charging issues

I was happy with the Pod Point app, but the forced move to PodHome caused major problems. It repeatedly conflicted with my Tesla & Octopus Intelligent Go charging schedules, preventing efficient overnight charging & increasing my electricity costs when charging spilled outside cheap tariff hours.

Despite contacting support since January, the issue went unresolved for months until one advisor finally identified the conflict & explained how to disable PodHome’s charging control.

The result was higher charging costs, missed charging targets, & months of frustration. A disappointing upgrade made worse by poor support & a lack of clear guidance. A forced upgrade that has delivered a worse experience, higher costs, & months of unnecessary frustration.
I will update this review if the issue returns or is not fully resolved.

Woeful update

Changes need to be made and fast. For U.K. customers ‘Boost’ button needs to be called ‘Charge Now’.
Boost implies more current than usual, as if the car will charge more quickly.
Please make it clear that signing up to the app removes the ability to set different charging times. Once you’re locked in, you are stuck with your energy providers off peak tarif, or you have to use Boost.
The problem is; if your WiFi drops during the night, as is common with the Solo 3 home charger, your schedule does not kick in and the power reverts to the new default of not charging. And you wake up to a flat battery often. The interface is not intuitive and needs further fixes which I’m happy to help with having worked in UI / UX for many years.

Great improvement

Can now earn rewards for your charging, but also able to return to basic charging for old scheduling

Smart charge not so smart

I’ve generally found the Pod Point app works fine with my Nissan Leaf and smart charging behaves as expected.

However, since one of the recent updates, I’ve had problems using Smart Charge with my Dacia Spring. Everything is set up correctly for smart charging, but the car doesn’t actually start charging in Smart mode. The only way I can get it to charge is by going into the settings and switching back to Basic Charge.

This setup used to work properly before the update, so something seems to have changed. Hopefully this can be looked into and fixed in a future update because having to manually switch charging modes defeats the point of smart charging.

Good now I know how to disable smart schedule.

Need to click on your profile pic to switch to basic charging so does what I need for now until I get a different electricity tariff. Also easy to lock (turn off) when away from home.

Great app but it can’t cope with lower charge amounts

Great app but if you only need to add a less amount of charge the app underestimates the time needed to charge up.

So the fix I do is to up the percentage charge needed eg from 60% charge to 90% rather than say 80%.

Can you check your algorithms please?

Chocolate teapot

I have 2 chargeable vehicles an EV and a PHEV.
The mobile app never seems to know which vehicle is connected so gives incorrect information. Both vehicles (via their systems) are set up with overnight charge windows so are charged correctly. However, the Pod app has no idea what’s happening, to which vehicle or when. Even when the vehicle has been charged (checking via the vehicle app) the Pod app no still has no idea.
So the charger appears to be working driven by the vehicles but the app is useless when the charger is plugged in.
The app is only good for checking activity and rewards after the charger has been unplugged.

Worse than useless

All it has to do is turn on when you want and off when you want. It can’t manage this basic requirement. If I could replace my pod charger with anything else I would, as this charging app is like playing Russian roulette with bullets in every chamber. Even “boost now” has as much chance of working as getting a kid to load a dishwasher.

Disappointingly unreliable

I've found the app and my Mini Countryman E to be invariably in conflict when trying to schedule a charge at a particular time and more often than not the charge doesn't happen. Tech Support was unhelpful. In fact, I was left with the feeling I knew more about how things worked than they did. Plan going forward is to delete this app and revert the charger to a dumb charger which will suit me fine.
