deceptive review practices

I’ve been with RTR for a really really long time (10 years?), but the customer service is very spotty. They have deceptive coupons when you try to pause your membership, and once you confirm to unpause your membership, then they will tell you you can’t use the coupon they just offered you. They reject any reviews that are remotely negative (I mentioned that a fabric was polyester and they rejected the review!), which is really unhelpful and deceptive. Their inventory is tiny - it is exceedly rare that an item I like will be available for me to rent.

Censor in-app feedback about clothing items

RTR only allows positive feedback on the app for clothing. I’ve received several items with poor fabric quality (holes, haphazard sewing) and they have declined to publish the review. This seems in violation of the FTC which does not allow selectively allowing only positive reviews. Just be aware that on the app it is not possible to get honest feedback on the items you’re renting

Not reliable

Terrible company. I ordered 2 dresses months ago for a wedding and they contacted me today saying one of the dresses isn’t available and I need to choose another or my order won’t ship. Supposedly there should be a “choose a replacement” banner on the app homepage but there is not, nor is there any customer service available. I texted the number on their page and they won’t message back. I’ve also reset my password in the app 2x but each time I try to log in it says it’s not a match. Never again. I remember when this company used to be reputable. Now I have nothing to wear for the wedding.

Horrible app

Logs you out when you do anything except shop. Poor selection quality. Often sizing isn’t available. Waste of money and time scrolling through mediocre clothing

Love clothes -FIX APP!!!!

Love the company, been using for over 10 years, never an issue. But the app has sucked for about a year. Never signed in, glitching, and so many issues to actually get in and start shipping!

Rebrand = scam

Membership has no options to cancel. On app, the button takes you to the browser link that lacks options for cancellation.

Don’t waste your time, ethical businesses would make less predatory user interfaces.

App filters don’t work

Cannot view available options even after checking “available now”, updating sizes, and zip code. Always just shows “notify me” options which makes it essentially unusable. Can’t create a cart without going through hundreds of unavailable items. I understand some things become available or unavailable every day but if I want to spend 15 mins and place an order it’s impossible.

Can’t Search One-Time Rentals

The entire format of the app is to get you to subscribe. There is no one-time rental category and I can’t search for it either. The website is better.

App crashes

I can’t use this app without it crashing. It’s terrible.

Poor Data Practices

The interface is fine, but when dealing with some recurring customer service issues I realized they had another customers information in my account. This wasn't visible in my account, but while on the support call the rep shared this persons full name, email and phone number with me, after repeatedly said it was no me. This leads me to believe the company has poor data management and data privacy practices.

Only Be A Member if you live in NYC

Service is horrible in California.. RTR in 2026 is not the same as it was in 2022. It has been a horrible experience dealing with the team recently. The customer service number does not even reply. I don’t know what is going on with this app. I have paid for this month and received no items so far and I am being charged overdue fees for items I have returned already. The service was 100x better before 2026.

Options limited

My size never in stock. Spend literally hours looking to finally settle on items I don’t want, for $140. Can’t recommend their services.

Changes prices w/o warning

Continually changes prices and policies without warning. Items available are never the good ones for subscription.

Awful customer service

Items regularly arrive damaged and their customer service is awful.

Love it!

Lots of clothes so good!

Nothing available

Colossal waste of time. Filtered search for “rent with subscription” and “available now” and results are populated with countless items that are not available in ANY size.
What’s the point of that filter? Time is valuable and I feel like I’m shopping a store with empty racks with no way to see the real time inventory.
Way too time consuming to do this on a regular basis.

not worth it

i liked it for a bit, but everything is always out of stock. i felt like for the high price you are paying, there should be more options. will not be going through with another month, nuuly is more worth it

Don’t use this

This is a bad app. I keep giving it a second chance and keep getting disappointed. I won’t be using them ever again. Do yourself a favor and use a different service

From Luxury Convenience to Constant Disappointment — A Loyal Customer’s Honest Review

I’ve been a Rent the Runway customer since 2019, with nearly 200 items rented, and it’s genuinely disappointing to say how far this service has fallen.

What once felt like a luxury, reliable experience has slowly turned into frustration after frustration. I’ve received multiple damaged items that clearly should not have been in circulation. On top of that, reusable return bags are no longer consistently included, forcing customers to scramble just to return items properly—something that used to be seamless.

Meanwhile, monthly prices continue to increase, yet the quality of service and product control has declined. The changes over the years have shifted the burden onto loyal customers while offering less value in return.

I stayed with Rent the Runway for years because it worked. It felt sustainable, stylish, and dependable. Now it feels like cost-cutting at the expense of the very customers who helped build the brand.

I truly hope leadership listens to long-time renters, because this platform used to be special—and right now, it’s losing the trust of those who supported it the longest.
