BEST thing for trips
Best app! I had never heard of it but a friend recommended it for a trip and honestly so good. The three of us used it religiously throughout our two week trip and it saved a lot of brain power and discussions leaving way more time and energy for better things!
Fake pro trial?
Signed up for the free pro trial but the pro features don’t work… emailed the support team and no reply after more than a day. Poor service.

Upcoming app that will be better than splitwise
App Store violation? No exit after forced ad
After tapping ‘Add Expense,’ I got an ad, then got dumped on ‘Add Contacts’ with no way back or to exit. Couldn’t do what I opened the app for. Possible dark pattern - in this case, marketing focused. Two other friends didn’t experience same behaviour and agreed with difference on my Splitwise version/bug.

Really good app
Easy to set up and use, good for splitting up expenses on a holiday
Terrible Now
The updates to the free version of this app have made it unusable. And frankly, you should not need to pay a subscription to use the most basic functions of an app. Shameful.

Way too confusing lots of ways of everyone changing their methodology - everyone else said nothing owed to me while the app said I was Owed EUR 285 hopeless - I’m deleting it

If you use this app with people who don’t earn very much money or who are very tight, expect arguments. When everyone is adding the costs, it will seem fine and hunky dory, but the minute it comes to paying the cost, it descends into pettiness and cheap behaviour.
I have used this twice now for holidays and it has turned into petty quibbling over literal pennies both times. I will never use this again.

Just be a normal adult person and split everything equally, if you can’t afford it then you should question whether you should even be there in the first place/whether you can afford to be there.

Perfect for groups
This app is a life-saver for anyone who likes travelling with friends.
Bugs
This is not the type of app that can afford to have simple entry field bugs. There is frequently a problem with copying numbers into the amount owed when adding an expense. It will not let you proceed and you have to enter the number from memory. This is on iOS.
There’s also a bug that stops you from making an expense owed by just a few people from your group. This app has been around long enough. These bugs are embarrassing.

I’ve had this app for multiple years and it was super easy to use. I recently went on a trip and tried splitting costs with friends and it was so difficult and annoying. After adding 2 expenses you have to watch an add before you can load another. You used to be able to hit “settle up” and pay everyone out through Venmo and it would be logged but now they have hidden this option and should you figure out how to pay through Venmo it won’t register the payment and you’ll be forced to manually close out the item.
Essentially the functionality of the app was ruined in order for them to monetize it more.

Horrid
Awful app. Keeps converting to other countries dollars. I edit it multiple times and it makes no difference. Then you reach your daily limit with no warning. Constant ads. Highly recommend you try an actual good app and not that purposefully scams.
