Good when it works
Disconnects at least once a day even though the gateway is less than 3 metres from the router and in the same room. Netatmo conditions inaccurate at my location stating cloudy when there wasn’t a cloud in the sky all day so my sun shutters remained open.
Easy to set up apart from the sensors
Easy add to HomeKit. Easy port from the VELUX controller. Impossible to add the VELUX sensors.
Lousy
I’ve spent eight hours with tech-support and still haven’t completed. All individual remotes are useless. The hub is glitchy.
Home is locked
Our area had a power outage. Now the app tells me it’s locked. I can’t find where to reset. Ridiculous and dangerous. Thank god I don’t have door locks.
Constantly disconnect from router
Always disconnects after a few days - had it installed for a year but last few weeks it’s constantly disconnecting. Only device out of 60 on my WiFi network that disconnects

Terrible Setup Experience
We have had this bloody thing for about a year. *When* it is set up, it is very nice. However, if the power goes out, or you update a WiFi networking any way, prepare for countless retries until, suddenly, when you have done nothing different, it works. iOS. Android. Makes no difference…over, and over, and over again. Infuriating.

Gateway loses connection to server
UPDATED 08/2026 Through trial and error adding and removing automations it appears that having too many associated to one room causes the gateway to disconnect. I’ve also added a smart plug to the gateway so I can reset it from my phone | The app worked perfectly for the first six months then the problems started. It now loses connection to the server on a daily basis. Automations don’t happen as programmed and some of our windows won’t connect to the app. As others have said this app is not fit for purpose. Don’t bother with UK technical support as they will waste your time. The app redesign is also a mess

These are simply the finest skylights made… or roof window, if you must!
I wish the auto close function gave an infinite choice for how long it should stay open. Also, hoping for Matter integration in the future. An exterior thermometer coupled with the interior thermometer, and some smart functioning could make this a very powerful system.

Just had a lovely engineer helping me to setup the app and gateway and pairing all windows to the app. He was so patient and listening. Happy that I can manage all windows from my phone.
43 years later Velux Active delivers!
I designed in a #8 center-pivot roof window into our home plans when built in 1978. It’s always been a interesting focal point but difficult to manage certainly. Now solar powered shade/vent Velux Active manages all with ease and security never thought of. After over 3 years of remodel THIS is the best part of all I have done. It’s simply amazing how it manages light and air quality and the aesthetics are a game changer.

I'm unable to add a second phone to the app, despite following all the steps.
Along with this, windows regularly fall off the system and have to be re-set and then re-added. Overall very unreliable and non user friendly.

Not working.
Almost impossible to get this app to work. It has taken days for the Velux Gateway to connect, but still trying to complete finish. Without the finish complete I cannot add the accessories - window and blind control. Over a week now and no further forward.
Velux Gateway keeps disconnecting
I don’t know how many times I’ve had to reset the Velux Gateway now. Feels like every time I go to open the blinds, it can’t be found. Half the time they’re-install just hangs when connecting to wifi (yes, 2.4G). Annoying buggy software
Not working!! Avoid.
The installation is unnecessarily complicated. It took hours to connect because the firmware update kept freezing and crashing. Once it finally installed, it wouldn’t pair with my Velux remote. It even broke the existing connection to my skylight, forcing me to climb up and re‑pair everything manually. Absolutely avoid this product.

I cannot get the system to connect or work, was on hold to customer services for 15 mins before the line went dead! Nightmare!
