The best

YNAB has been an app me and my family have been using for probably close to a decade. It allows us to be in control and get ahead.

Latest update backslides

It’s really less useful at a glance now.

Great budget!

Finally seeing my savings grow after being stuck at 9K/10K for a few years. After 1 year of daily use and mastery, I’ve increased my savings from 10K to 22K (increase would be only maybe to 18K without job promotion/income increase). There is a learning curve, but the early effort put in is worth it. Would highly recommend!

The 2 star rating is for the app

Tired of the majority awful and unnecessary UI updates

Too Complicated

Too much extra bull.

Very useful for keeping track

Used it for theee years and love it.

The perfect app is being butchered

I don’t mind the price rises - but the most recent change is absolutely horrendous. I’ve had the app for the best part of 8 years or so and the most recent UI and UX update is torture. Progress bars gone.

You can no longer see how much you’ve added to a category this month without clicking into it. What on earth?

Reddit says it’s some A/B testing nonsense. Well I’m in the B for Bad.

Change it back. Please. Or at least give the option to. The app was so good I’d literally pay extra to go back to the previous iteration. That’s how bad the new update is.

Which is a shame, the the app and concept itself was wonderful.

No la supe manejar

No me gustó, tengo pagos semanales y eso de andar asignando dinero a más de 15 cosas por semana es tedioso.

Frustrating update

New update is really frustrating. I can no longer see what I’ve spent in each category without additional work that’s not user friendly. It’s frustrating to see $0 in my plan or available to spend, but I want to see what my spend has been without having to act like I’m assigning funds. This feature being removed will likely make me look for a new product.

So helpful

I thought folks were exaggerating about how helpful this app is. But honestly it’s really improved my relationship with money so much.

Good UI design, poor back end

Makes the envelope method easy and the integration with account balances is good - when it actually works.

Half of the accounts refuse to import transactions despite multiple rounds of re-syncing, removing and reconnecting, and help desk ticket requests across over a year.

Not sure if I'll continue using YNAB because this has been so frustrating and severely degrades the utility of the service. For almost $100/yr I expected a more useable app.

Learning curve

It’s good to keep track of basic in the envelope style, but I do feel as though some numbers don’t line up quite often and I don’t know why. I’ve had the app for over a year and am just now thinking I might try another. This has been good, just had a lot of reconciliations that were very different, sometimes a difference of $1,000. That’s a lot of money to have not calculating correctly. I’m sure this is a user error. But I’ve tried reaching out to support and we eventually solve the issue but still don’t know what I’m doing wrong for that to happen in the first places.

New update removed a lot of the info you could tell from a quick glance

Versatile budgeting app! Love the features!

This is my favorite budgeting app ever.

Life changing

YNAB changed my life, I can’t really say that about any other app. The app is nice, but it’s really the method for handling money that makes YNAB so special. It took several months but now my family is a month ahead on all our bills, and we are saving toward big goals. We’ve been YNABing for four years now and we’ve never worried less about money.

Life changing

This app and the free educational material can change your whole perspective on money and bring true financial freedom even while still digging your way out of debt. It totally changed the way that we communicate about money in our marriage.

Recent visual changes obfuscate information

I’ve been using YNAB for 20 years. The last few major updates have made significant changes to the UX. The most recent one has hidden the assigned column and added a little money spent summary to each bucket row.

The summaries add clutter and potential for confusion between the bucket’s active and beginning balances.

I found the assigned column to be a core information component while reviewing my plan.

It reappears if you tap on a row, but there is no option to have it always be shown. Instead the plan is cluttered with folder icons that fill up to green. It’s visual noise that greatly reduces readability.

It’s a budgeting app and YNAB continues to find ways to hide the numbers.

I feel like I’m being forced out as a user because clean informative presentation has been traded for scrapbook styled presentation.

Every update makes it worse.

4 years ago this was hands down the best budgeting app. Every few months they now update the app and EVERY single update makes the app worse. The latest update took away the classic clean look of YNAB and made it look like it was created by a middle schooler on MS-DOS in 1989.

Woke

This app used to be about money. They added an LGBT etc angle. Not what I’m paying for. Just do your job.

Bring back progress bars

Please bring back the progress bars, or at least the option to toggle them on. The circles are so much more difficult to read and make me want to cancel my subscription.

I find it hard to believe anyone asked for this feature - please stop making arbitrary UI updates that don’t actually fix anything.
