Verdict
The clearest difference is rating: AudioKey 2 at 5.0 against Hearing Remote's 4.4. Hearing Remote's advantage is ratings volume (4.7K vs 1) and review sentiment (23% vs 11%). On price, update cadence, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.
AudioKey 2 holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.4. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Hearing Remote has 4.7K ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 23% of Hearing Remote's written reviews are positive against 11% of AudioKey 2's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
Hearing Remote ships an update every 5 months, AudioKey 2 every 4 months. The most recent releases landed on October 15, 2026 and July 7, 2026 respectively.
