Verdict
Walgreens and Michaels Stores both sit at 4.8 stars, but that hides the real split: 60% of Walgreens's written reviews are positive against 8% of Michaels Stores's. Walgreens also leads on ratings volume (7.3M vs 271K) and chart position (#19 vs #95). Michaels Stores's advantage is ads (none vs shown) and iOS requirement (15.0 vs 17.0). On price, rating, update cadence and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.
On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.8 for Walgreens against 4.8 for Michaels Stores. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Walgreens has 7.3M ratings behind it against 271K, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews are what separate them: 60% of Walgreens's written reviews are positive against 8% of Michaels Stores's.
Walgreens ships an update fortnightly, Michaels Stores every 2 weeks. Both last shipped on October 15, 2026.
