Description of Notes

Notes is the best place to jot down quick thoughts or to save longer notes filled with checklists, images, web links, scanned documents, handwritten notes, or sketches. And with iCloud, it's easy to keep all your devices in sync, so you’ll always have your notes with you. Features Powerful note-taking • Add attachments - PDFs, photos, maps, web links, and more. • Record and transcribe audio directly into a note. • Scan paper documents with the built-in document scanner. • Secure sensitive or personal data in a locked note. • Create checklists. Make a grocery list, a wish list, or a to-do list, then tap to check off items as you go. • Apply different text styles, such as heading or body, bulleted lists, highlighting, and more. • Tap next to section headers to reveal a chevron to collapse text. • Add tables to quickly organize information. • Use your finger, or Apple Pencil on a compatible iPad, to sketch right in your note or an inline PDF. Choose from a variety of brush styles and colors, and add lines and grids to a note for easier writing and drawing. Organize and search • Search for text in notes, your handwriting, and even inside scanned documents and photos like receipts or bills. • Link from one note to another to connect ideas, content, or any information. Try typing >> for a shortcut to add links while writing in your note. • Keep your notes in folders and subfolders, or add tags to categorize them. Type or handwrite tags directly in your note - like #cooking or #expenses. • Automatically organize notes in a Smart Folder based on filters. Create rules to filter for Date Created, Checklists, Attachments, and more. Collaborate • Collaborate on entire shared folders or on specific shared notes. • Mention friends to notify them of important updates and link them directly to a shared note. • See what others added into a shared note while you were away with Activity view, a day-to-day list summary of activity from each collaborator. Take notes anywhere • Just swipe with an Apple Pencil or finger from the bottom right corner on any compatible iPad to start a Quick Note outside the app. You can also use Fn-Q (Globe-Q) on a keyboard, or create Quick Notes on iPhone from the share menu in an app. • Add deep links from an app or website to a Quick Note to mark your place. Certain features are available only in select languages and regions.

Reviews of Notes

  • Is it possible to lock more than one note at a time?

As much as I love this app, and I’ve been using it many, many years, my issue is being able to lock the app itself. I know you can lock individual notes but I have SO many that to do that individually would be way too much. I have thousands and thousands of separate notes. If we could lock the app altogether, would be fantastic! Please consider it. This is the only app I trust not to be discontinued. I’ve had a few that I bought and when I got a new phone, the content was not available or it was discontinued or whatever… I was devastated as I need to be able to go back and check stuff. I copied all my entries from the other apps to this one and that’s when I realized I cannot lock the app itself. I try others on occasion for locking purposes but I always end up here again. Ty for keeping it around. It’s reliable! That’s important to me. Although so is my privacy….locking the app would help so much! This app is my lists and journal and thought keeper … everything. I use it multiple times daily.
  • Why can’t we lock notes with attachments?

I have been using the Apple Notes app for a while now, and overall, it’s a fantastic tool for organizing thoughts, ideas, and important information. The seamless integration with other Apple devices and services is particularly commendable. However, there is one glaring issue that significantly impacts the utility of the app: the inability to lock notes that contain attachments.

Security is a crucial aspect of note-taking apps, and while Apple Notes does offer the ability to lock notes, this feature becomes practically useless when it excludes notes with attachments. Attachments such as images, PDFs, and other documents often contain sensitive information that needs to be protected. The current limitation forces users to separate their attachments from the text, thereby disrupting the organization and coherence of the notes.

Why can’t we lock notes with attachments? This seems like a basic feature that should be included, especially given Apple’s emphasis on privacy and security. It’s frustrating to see that such an essential functionality is missing. I hope the developers address this issue soon, as it would greatly enhance the overall user experience and security of the app.

Until this feature is implemented, users seeking to keep their notes with attachments secure will have to look for alternative solutions. Please consider prioritizing this update to meet the security needs of your users.
  • Would give zero stars if I could

This app is incredibly basic and doesn’t allow for much customization with your notes, however I had overlooked that for a long time rather than just finding a new notes app to test out.
The other day I opened my notes app and all my notes were gone, no deleted folder to even check if they were in there, and despite supposedly being synced to my iCloud, I cannot recover them that way either. I, as well as many others according to reviews, relied on the notes app a lot for keeping critical work, health and personal information sorted and accessible whenever needed and now I don’t think I will ever get them back. My notes ranged from information about prescriptions for myself and my kids and what reactions we’ve had to them or what their efficacy was like, budgets, documentation of an ongoing work harassment issue, etc and now I’m out all that information for seemingly no reason and with no solution.
This seems to be common as of late considering how many reviewers have reported the same issue with no update on the possibility of getting their notes back. Not sure what happened or how Apple plans to fix this. Use another app if you rely on digital notes for any vital information. I’ve seen others recommend Evernote & One Note and I’ll be trying both of those instead.
