Exceeds Expectations

The bike has been excellent and I have thoroughly enjoyed getting back in the saddle after thinking my riding days were mostly behind me due to age and bad knees - too much soccer and basketball when I was younger. For me, the bike provides the perfect amount of assist - still get exercise just not too much. I wasn’t sure about the auto-shifting but am used to it now and rather enjoy just taking in the scenery. I thought I would want to customize the shifting through the app but just ended up using one of the pre-sets. Which brings me to the app. Like the bike it performs perfectly over my first 100 miles or so. I am not one that pours over my trip data so the basics (time, distance, avg sped etc) are perfect. I forgot my phone on one ride so the total miles on the trip view doesn’t match the bike view - not a huge deal. For anyone on the fence I would say go for it and enjoy the joy of two-wheel travel (again, for many of us).

Love the S3, the app needs polishing

I’ve had a great experience with Van Moof’s customer service team, and I absolutely love riding my S3! Here are my recommendations for the app:

- MUST HAVE: Apple Watch unlock!
- Car horn sound! (and maybe unlock some other functionality for the speaker although I know battery is an issue)
- fix ride info / distance issue

VM, thanks for making ridiculously awesome bikes!! I will continue to support you, you guys rock!

Great! Only one missing feature.

The app is great. Cool UI. Works smoothly with the S3. The only missing feature is the option to unlock the bike via Apple Watch without using the iPhone app.
Love this bike!

Nothing but problems

This app is a disaster, and it has been for YEARS. Seriously, how Van Moof isn’t mortified that this is what their app looks like and this is how badly it operates, it’s beyond comprehension. And the fact that it’s *required* to operate a very expensive bike just makes it that much more infuriating.

No settings stick. The app just reverts back immediately. I can’t turn off sounds. I can’t change speed. I can’t do anything. At all. It constantly says my bike is not connected and frequently fails to unlock—I usually have to restart the bike 5 or so times before it’ll work. Every. Time. I. Use. The. Bike. And now my bike’s display has stopped working, and the documentation on the Van Moof website and Van Moof’s customer service is an absolute insulting joke. “Have you tried restarting the bike?” That’s their only solution, and they need to shove it.

Don’t buy this bike. Don’t download this app. Throw your thousands of dollars in a river and save yourself the frustration and knowledge you wasted a ton of money on a company that has so much disrespect for their customers.

Response from developer

Hey Scott, thank you for your feedback. I'm very sorry to hear that you seem to have quite some issues with your VanMoof and our app. What you described is indeed no normal behaviour. Our recommendation to restart your bike is always the first step of troubleshooting, but as this didn't help you further, I highly recommend you get in touch with our Customer Support via phone again, so we can solve the problems you described together. I hope that once the issues are solved, you can start enjoying your bike again. Cheers, Anastasia.

Good app in theory

So many features don’t work as expected.

The support part is a joke, and god help you if you need to contact support.

Wish I could rate the app and the company below zero considering I should be able to charge for the time I spent trying to get support that I paid for access to.

It’s 2020: where’s the Health integration?

As a bicycle is the primary mode of transportation for many Dutch, I find it a bit (read: incredibly) surprising that this App doesn’t have a link to apple’s Health app to track the cycling calories. It’s been years now since this app debuted and Apple introduced their health app and opened it up for other apps to write to - what’s the hold up?

Feature Requests

- Ride Tracking is still not accurate by a long shot
- Track Routes not just distance/speed
- ability for users to export their own GPX
- not sure if you have this, connected service to Strava App
- you have a rear light, why not make it a brake light when brakes are applied.
- custom horn sounds or ringtones / music - like riding a bike with a built in ghetto blaster

For S4, belt drive vs chain. Removable battery, Better disc brakes

Would be interesting to have a mid motor at extra cost. Other sensors?

This app ride tracking feature is not accurate at all. My ride each way to work is 7miles and it only shows 4. This must be a simple conversion issue and I hope they address it in an app update. There is no reason I shouldn’t be able to accurately see how many miles my bike logs

Great Bike. Average App.

Love my Smart X2 bike but would of loved to see some extra features in the app - for example ride tracking and link with my Apple Watch for health data. The app also does not automatically unlock the bike half the time, I have to manually open the app - not sure why but seems a few people share the same issue.

Hi, thanks for your review and the feedback. We are always working in improving and adding features. Please keep an eye out for the next updates! Cheers! Team VanMoof

Not sure what happened

The app is not working with my S2. It used to work great but is now unstable and unreliable. I’ve done all the reboot bike, app phone. Also the website is so focused on the new bike you can’t get customer service for older bikes. Mine has 120 miles and it shouldn’t be a hassle
