Love version 3

It's great there's finally a trial version. Liking the usability and built in encryption. My only concern and question is upgrading to a paid version. Only option appears to be the Pro version for the more expensive price. App store In App purchases provides two versions and prices..what's the difference?

Does not work with iwatch!

The primary reason I got this was to be able to use with iwatch.
And guess what it does not sync or even switch on in iwatch.

Even though I have added email accounts on Canary in iphone but nothing updates on iwatch. I almost paid for full version...thank god that it malfunctioned before payment...

Stay away...

Nice new update but more needed

The new update looks nice and new but is lacking and buggy. For example, it still takes a long time to download new messages from the server. Sent messages don’t show up in outbox until much later and when composing a new message it will include all of my contacts in the email as opposed to the one I specifically chose. You have to them click down to the body or subject to actually erase your entire contacts from being accidentally cc’d on the email. This is rather annoying. Also when I sent an email last, it’s displaying someone else’s name in place of their contact. For example, will send an email to my mom - let’s call her “Jennifer” for the purposes of this review - and once sent, it will be renamed to “Richard” in the outbox. Really strange.

In addition, the app continues to freeze. I’ll leave an email to open up another app and when I go back to Canary, I’ll have to wait 5 seconds for it to be clickable otherwise nothing opens. Takes too long to load.

Please Fix This Bug!

First, I would like to congratulate you and your team on producing such fine product. I love how simple and clean this client is. It's lovely to look at and functions, for the most part, very well.

I would love to support you, by paying you for your work. However, I have a problem that is niggling me. I have many emails in my inbox (all read), yet only a certain amount of them is shown. When checking me Inbox on my PC, all 500+ emails are showing up.

This error has been mentioned by someone else, in another review, by the way.

I would find it hard to part with £20, if this issue isn't resolved by the end of my trial (which started today).

On a daily basis, I would typically only need to see my most recent emails. However, I would hate to be away from home and find that I need access to an older email, only to find that it is inaccessible because of a bug with your software.

Please reply to my review when you've fixed it, so I can test it out and then pay for a license. :)

Take care and many thanks!

UPDATE: After the Pro update, and noticing the snooze function was still not working as in previous versions. I contacted tech support again. Third time now, I summarize AGAIN that snoozed emails are no longer reappearing as unread, nor counting towards badge count. Tech support went from this it’s previous stand of this is a bug we are trying to fix to this is a feature that did not make the cut. When I try to understand clearly if they were abandoning a feature of the version I previously paid for, they stopped responding.

And here we are with my first 1 star rating.

===============

I left other apps and purchased canary because of the great reviews, and I was not disappointed.

It is intuitive, well designed, and smooth. It takes a while to load and doesn’t work well if you are losing your signal on/off, for example riding the subway (metro train) in NY.

But I can’t give it a 5. I would give it a 4 but snooze function is too important to how I interact with my inbox; and it is broken. So a 3 it is.

As per tech support, they are aware of an issue where snooze no longer let’s the email reappear as unread and make it count towards the apps badge count.

Months and still not fixed.

I liked it until...

I like until I realized that when you leave the app then come back (I’m not talking close the app, just put it in the background) it sometimes opens with the logo... as if it’s opening for the first time. A few times I have written a portion of an email, went to grab or take an image, and come back, only to have lost what I was writing. This can also be annoying if you click a link in an email then want to go back to being within that email.

For example, I wanted to click 4 links in an email. I clicked 1, then went back to canary to click the second, clicked the second, then went back to click the third, and it started with the logo. I don’t want to find that email again. Why would it work the first time but not the Second. There doesn’t seem to be a rhyme or reason.

Easily the best iOS email app for iOS

The recent refresh of Canary for iOS is amazing. It was already among the best apps for power users concerned about efficiency and privacy, but now it easily tops the list. Built-in encryption and the option to not have your private data uploaded to some unknown third party's servers make this the only app I'll trust aside from Apple's own mail app (which is awful to use).
Enhancements I'd love to see are a button to load images in the current message, as well as the ability to whitelist senders for remote image loading from the message viewer.

So near and yet so far

I ALMOST purchased the PREMIUM version towards the end of the free trail as the app is ALMOST there. I love the fact it picks up accounts on multiple devices and the pinning feature to remind me of emails to sort BUT I subscribe to a number of email newsletters and they are ALWAYS ALL truncated with no option to see the whole text. The ‘help’ files tell me there’s a setting, but as these were written 9 months ago they are obviously horribly out of date and that option no longer seems to be available. Long story short is I HAVEN’T found my ideal email client after all and the hunt is back on and I won’t be making that in-app purchase for the premium level!

Response from developer

Hi, please reach us via the in-app Help button and we'll look into the issue(s) you've mentioned.

What new features??

I’ve been requesting basic features from canary for months that are found in other email apps, and this “new” version includes none of them. In fact, I can see nothing new in the design, settings, or appearance of the app. Looks like a ridiculous excuse to charge loyal users again. What a crock of **it.
In response to the developer's boilerplate answer to my review, the app has basically the same exact features as before with some minor vague "redesign", but basic features such as an instant undelete feature and the ability to see more than first names in the headers of email threads are still missing despite being requested repeatedly by users and being found on almost all other email apps. So to the developer, stop posting BS boilerplate excuses and start delivering done actual new useful features.
To the developer: you completely miss the point. Yes, you have gussied up the interface a little and put a few new features in place that nobody needs, but your app is woefully behind other email apps in basic features that you continue to ignore. People keep requesting these basic features, and you ignore them. So yes, there are some new features and yes each screen looks a little different, but basically you have added nothing of any practical value. Try adding a few features that people actually need and request and maybe people will be willing to pay for them.

*Revised Response* You can review a full list of new features introduced in 3.0 via Settings > Pro. Further, every single screen in the entire app is new & has been thoroughly redesigned - from the email list to the email reader to Compose, encryption, settings, contact pane, search pane, built-in calendar, etc. It would appear that you have missed all this entirely and as such most of what you allege is inaccurate. In any case, we are unable to indulge individual feature requests. If you do not see value in the 3.0 update, you can choose not to pay and still retain access to core functionality as well as features present in 2.0. *Original Response* Hi, version 3.0 has been redesigned from the ground up to be faster, simpler, and more powerful. If you've previously purchased version 2.0, you can upgrade to version 3.0, and continue to use it, for free. You get the all-new design as well as all the features you had before, including encryption. You will not be locked out or lose core functionality even if you do not pay for version 3.0. If you want the new, premium, features introduced in version 3.0, you have to pay - and if you’ve already bought version 2.0, you get a discount. We believe this is fair both to existing as well as new users, and enables us to continue development and offer the very best features to all our users on an ongoing basis, while still leveraging a fair and transparent business model that does not rely on selling user data.

Even more costs!!

I really want to like this app, however, it is very difficult to recommend this when even after paying for this app, a new update requires me to buy the add on for such an absurd amount, once again! I don’t think it is fair to have to pay that much for basic email features such as email pinning! Very disappointed

Hi, version 3.0 has been redesigned from the ground up to be faster, simpler, and more powerful.
