  • Shame they removed contrast paints

I liked that it gave you the lists for using either contrast paints or regular paints when checking to see how to paint a model but for some reason they’ve removed the contrast paint steps now which is a massive shame.
It seems since the most recent update they’ve removed this and also increased the number of paints you now “need” to paint each model.
If I had to guess, someone has made a commercial decision to try and push paint sales harder via this app. As an example, to paint a Cadian guardsmen, they now suggest you need 22 different colours to achieve a “parade” standard.

  • Great app but the new update is disappointing

They took away the contrast recipes and that’s all that really changed from what i saw, it isn’t easier to go trough the app, they just took away the contrast way to do miniatures. The update was kind of a nerf
  • Great app

Only suggestion is you should be able to add videos to your projects!

Would really help centralize all info for a project.
  • Great in theory but falls short for iPad users

I was really excited at the idea of this app as I am just getting in to painting miniatures. I was looking forward to a companion that I could run on my iPad while I paint to reference colors and tutorial videos but there is a major problem with this plan. IT ONLY FUNCTIONS IN PORTRAIT MODE!! What!?!? It’s 2023 and Games Workshop is a MASSIVE company and this app is over 4 years old. How is this not a feature? Most people I know working on the iPad Pro, do so with some type of attached keyboard and in landscape mode. The lack of landscape orientation severely limits the functionality of the app and unfortunately renders it useless for me (and many other users) on the iPad unless I want to disconnect my keyboard and case and completely change my workflow. Hope it’s something that can be addressed as it should be an easy fix.

  • HUGE PROBLEM

Simply put, the GW website is more useful for painting guidance than this app for the simple reason that, on the GW website, you can ZOOM IN and ROTATE the models. The fact that this app does not have this feature is bizarre. There’s also this whole “contrast” option I guess meant to show you what the model “would look like in contrast paints”, but this section is completely empty. Seems like this app is half finished. Other than showing you pictures of the models, it does nothing for you.

  • Great App, but Needs Tweaks!

The core of this app is fantastic; it helps managing painting much easier.

That said, several aspects of the UI are currently very frustrating, but would be easy fixes:

    1. Remove the ‘Paint Makes Warhammer’ pop-up which shows EVERY TIME the app is run. As someone accessing it multiple times a day, that’s a LOT of pointless journey interruptions. If you insist on having it, just show it once for new app users, then never again.

    2. Show item counts in the header for the ‘Inventory’, ‘Wishlist’, and ‘All’ lists. Knowing how many paints I have vs how many I want is pretty key!

    3. Allow exports of the Inventory to PDF, not just the wishlist. I often want to tell people the stuff I have, not the stuff I want to buy!

    4. Where are the Sons of Horus models and matching colours? Seems to be quite a bit of Horus Heresy missing.

  • Needs improving

The app will sometimes crash and take you out of the app.
You can see a lot of the colour recipes are wrong as they’re just best guesses… for example some of the same models that have the same flesh tones have different recipes dependant on the model you select.
Middle earth still has no proper support as only a dozen or so models are here and you cant search for them unless you type “middle” if you put “middle earth” then the app has no idea what to search for which is a stupid oversight of the developers. Also If you type the models actual name it still wont register it as a valid search.
When they updated this app they also wiped all your paint inventory/ wish lists. So if (like me) you have over a 100 paints its too much of a tedious and time consuming task to redo your paint collection.
Its not a bad app it has some kinks but there are some great tutorials and the app is very easy to navigate if youre searching for some in house models.

  • No sync of inventory between devices

I got the app on both my iPad and iPhone. I use the iPhone when I go shopping for paint and the iPad when I’m painting. The iPad screen is bigger which makes it easier to see how the models are painted. The unfortunate thing is that the inventory is not syncing between devices despite me being logged in on both.

So every time I look at the model to see what paint I need on the iPad I need to open the app on my iPhone if I want to check if I have the paint or want to add it to my wishlist so I can buy it next time I go to the shop. Not ideal.

The other issue I have is that the paints suggested in the app for the Idoneth Deepkin figures are not the same as suggested in the battletome of the Idoneth. Minor issue I admit but a company which produces _mini_ figures should definitely have a bit more attention to detail ;-)

Despite these issues the app is great, I started only a couple of months ago and this app makes it so much easier to keep track of the paints you own, want to buy and need to use for specific models. A real time saver. And even though not all models are available in the app it’s super easy to look at other models and copy the style you like.

  • Update wiped out all my paint data

Edit: updating my review since after I rebooted my phone (for unrelated reasons) now all my data is showing up in the app. Apparently some issue in first install, but not permanent. Updated my rating back to 5 stars, as well. My needs might be simple, but it does them perfectly.

I was actually using the app to archive all the paints I've purchased and a wishlist for paints I'd like to get. However with the recent update, all that data is put in was wiped out. When I load it up now, I'm t says I have no paints and nothing in my wishlist. This means now I have to go through all my paints and update it again. Sure, not a huge amount of work, but wastes about 15 minutes of my time. The wishlist however is just gone. I used the app so I wouldn't have to remember. I was expecting that to be a reliable place to save such things. For doing those two things it was actually a pretty decent solution. Now I don't know if I can trust it not to lose everything again. If you can't trust it to save your list, why use it to store your lists?

  • Not Happy Jan

Only briefly looking at this app and must say so far unimpressed.
    - My projects, inventory, and wishlist all disappeared until I logged in
    - in the old app, when you had colours in you project they were sorted by colour groups. This is now gone
    - in the old app when you had colours in your project you could see how they layered up, this now appears to be gone
    - I think they should have linked the Wishlist to the website so you could purchase paints easier ( more revenue from online purchases)

It’s one redeeming feature is that it now links to the website, but no mention of forgeworld, only the normal warhammer site.

Sorry peeps but if could revert back to the old app, I would already have done it 😢
