  • Problematic

    If you happen to get a new phone and you forget your password there is no way to re-register the password because of the stupid requirement that it can only be done using the original phone that you had used when you register the first time. What the heck?!?

  • Love it

    I was surprised to see the low reviews for this app, as I’ve been using it flawlessly for a while now and it’s incredibly convenient and simple to use! Being able to use your manaca card for ticketless boarding is a definite plus.

    Those leaving one-star reviews should remember that forgetting your password isn’t the app’s fault! ;)

  • Easy and Convenient

    If you can get past the fact that it wants a credit card up front, the rest of the app is perfect. Really easy to select your train, choose your seat, and boom! ...you’re boarding with your IC card.
  • Operational Failure

    Get this App off the Apple App Store. Can’t log in with my EX-IC. I go to their website and it works just fine.

  • Functional but tedious

    After using the app to book weekly tickets for several months, I’m finding areas of the app that are tedious to use.

    • I would like to use a longer, more secure password, but the lack of Touch or Face ID support makes this too difficult since I have to type this in every time I use the app. As a minimum, at least review Apple’s “About the Password AutoFill Workflow” document to find out how to associate the app with the correct domain.

    • The credit card security code should be a secure field (masked as ***) so people nearby can’t see this when finalizing the reservation.

    • It’s nice to be able to get a receipt, but printing from an iPhone is often not possible, especially at the office. Unfortunately, the mobile account can’t be used with the website. This makes for a painful workflow.

    • I purchased a new iPhone and transferred my apps and data. Although I can use the existing account, I can’t access the membership information. I get an error telling me to create a new account. But for a new account, I can’t use my email address. I also can’t delete my old account since I no longer have the original phone.

    UPDATE: Apparently the version in the Japan App Store addresses all of these issues. I had to pick up the tickets for my open reservations and wait a few days, but was able to register a new account on the Japanese website. Unlike the version in the US App Store, registration and membership changes must be done on the Japanese website (the English version doesn’t work). It’s rather confusing.

  • Why split into two apps without making both available in the US App Store?

    Why did they split this into two apps? One for foreigners visiting Japan and one for people in Japan without making both available in the the us App Store?

    When I try to login it says, “You cannot use this app with the Membership ID you have entered. Please use EXアプリ which is for people living in Japan”. But EXアプリ isn’t available in the US App Store.

  • Insecure or too secure?

    I created an account which forces you to enter a credit card and now I’m trying to get back into the app and it won’t take my password (which it’s only 4-8 alphanumeric characters, so that’s probably why I can’t remember it) - and when I try to click through the “forgot your password” option, it doesn’t find me.

    I’m pretty positive I’ve now locked my account and there’s no information or contacts for how to unlock the account?!?!

    Horribly designed app: not at all user friendly and zero customer service.

  • Very handy

    It is a great app that help you book the train ticket without going through the complicated on their website! I’m very satisfied for the whole process of my booking for the Shinkansen!
  • Operation failure

    I keep trying to sign up and it repeatedly says “operation failure” I can’t use it!
