Awkward to use

The design is not intuitive for displaying routes as compared to other features. Overall a nice idea but still needs a lot of work.

Response from developer

Thanks for the feedback, DKN667. We do have plans to improve the display of routes ("outings" in OuterSpatial), so stay tuned!

Stuck on Updating

Stupid App

As soon as he has launch the app it wants to check for updates and it never comes back. I think there is a flaw here.

UPDATED: Received Developer Response

Update: The developer reached out to me and I was able to go into detail about what had not worked well. They addressed each of my concerns and by the time I contacted them, they had already fixed some of the issues I mentioned in my review, and were in the process of following up on others. So, while I think the app still needs work, I’m changing the review to 5 stars because I believe they’re actively working to fix it and make it work the way it’s intended. I should note that I’m not using the app for myself but I only used it to participate in the Yosemite Wilderness Camping Study. Original Review: Title: Annoying and didn’t do what it said it would I was asked to participate in a study of camping in Yosemite wilderness. I told it the dates of my trip, but it sent me a notification every night from the time I consented to the study until I completed my trip. It said that I didn’t need cell service to be able to complete the questionnaires, and they could upload my responses when I was done, but when I was in the wilderness with no service, it didn’t work! Then, I tried to contact support but it requires me to have the Mail app which I deleted. Why can’t they just list an email address?

Response from developer

Hi Kdbeidbdj, sounds like you're experience was not great. The Yosemite Wilderness Camping Study is designed to work while offline, so we'd love to hear more about your particular experience. If you're willing to provide more information, please reach out at visitors@outerspatial.com.

deleted from “manage storage”

Has invasive data collection by default. Very difficult to delete. Can’t control which part to download for offline use. Prompt for useless beta testing and social network.

Response from developer

Hi 3ngord, we'd love more context, as it's not clear what some of your comments refer to. It seems like you may be conflating things that are unrelated to OuterSpatial. That said, I'll take a stab at addressing each of your comments here in case it's useful for you and others: - We only collect and use analytics to drive specific pieces of functionality and/or help troubleshoot crashes and performance issues. You can read about this in detail in our Privacy Policy: https://www.outerspatial.com/privacy-policy. We take your privacy very seriously, so we'd love to hear more about why you feel like our data collection is "invasive". If you're willing to provide more detail, please reach out to visitors@outerspatial.com. - You can delete the app just like you delete any other app on your iOS device. - When you load a community in OuterSpatial, the app downloads an index of information to drive basic functionality even when in no network or bad network situations. This primarily includes the information needed to drive the "Explore" functionality in the app. We do have plans to allow you to explicitly select locations (like park boundaries) to download for offline usage in the future, so stay tuned. - We do not "prompt" for "beta testing" anywhere in the app nor do we "prompt" for "social network". It's difficult to address these two comments because it's not clear what they refer to, but, again, please send more detail to visitors@outerspatial.com.

Crappy App

This is another one of those social media networking apps masquerading as a hiking GPS app. Not much mapping coverage in some states. Useless to me. Plus it crashes when trying to downloads maps of my area. Delete.

Wish I loved this

The app is difficult to use. I’m supposed to get maps and have them offline on my phone. But it’s so not clear how to do that. I’m looking for other apps that are easier to navigate

Response from developer

Hi Janet2552, there are multiple ways to find trails and/or outings in the app. The two most direct ways are by tapping the search button at the top of the Home Screen or using the map or list view on the Explore tab. That said, we’d love to hear more about your experience if you’re willing to share. We’re always open to feedback that can help us improve the OuterSpatial experience. If you’re willing to share, you can reach us at visitors@outerspatial.com.

Doesn’t work

Everytime I open the app it says I need a network connection to start the app. It takes me to my settings and in ensure the network connection is on and “green” for this particular app, and then I go back to the app and it gives the same pop up and the app never works. I’ve closed it and re downloaded it twice now.

Response from developer

Hi Downwithllc, sorry about the problem! I’m not sure what was going on when you launched the app, but we have not had any reports of similar issues. If you’d be willing to provide more information about your experience, please reach out to visitors@outerspatial.com.

Trails disappear.

I’ve used this app several times on the San Francisco Crosstown Trail and in all cases the trail disappears and you have to search for the trail again for it to reappear. A bit annoying when hiking and real annoying when biking.

Response from developer

Hi BrianHSF, we recently made some improvements to state restoration, so the issue you were running into should be resolved. Thanks for the feedback!
