Very good app for learning, definitely worth the money for review and no ads. The only thing keeping it from being a 5 star is that sometimes the pronunciation (“ha”, “ba”, “pa”, etc.) at the top is cut off and it can be hard to see what character you’re supposed to write. Great for Learning to Write
And writing helps you learn the read. You’ll have to pay to remove the ads, but it’s well worth it. This will take you through the shapes of all the Kana, it’s easy to use, and the handwriting input works surprisingly well.
I wish there was a way to show a 2x2 grid while writing, to make it easier to learn to position the strokes correctly.Show lessolnir
Exactly what I needed
This is what I’ve been looking for. I think it would be easier to memorize the Japanese symbols if I learn to write it. This is the best tool I’ve seen for it.ItsUrChris

I've been searching for a better writing app, this is it! The interface is simple and much is included with very little ads. I will definitely pay to unlock review features after I have practiced all the hiragana and katakana.GoemonTheHero
Best kana teacher
This app is the best for learning all of the kana! I also really like the audio only feature because I am going for fluency and I don’t want to have to use romanji. Great app!Joesh05
Best app for learning kana!!
I've tried many different apps to learn Japanese, and this one by far is the best one to learn BOTH hiragana and katakana. Many other apps make you pay for katakana or extra features.
That being said, there are only a couple things I can think of to enhance this app even more:
- a general quiz that includes all kana without them being grouped into sections of ~5 at a time
- a couple more sections for the lookalike kana to help differentiate...ie はほま、クケヌ、シソツノ、アマ, etc

Best app for writing Japanese but test feature could improve
This app is amaaazing if you want to learn how to write hiragana and katakana quickly. Best most useful app I have found. Highly recommend. Only problem I had with it is after upgrading to have the test feature I can’t test myself on selected hiragana and katakana and the only option I have is to be tested on everything I study. If there was an added feature where I could select only a few hiragana and katakana I want to revise and I’m weak on it would be perfect.Show lessapplesawcee
Nu doesn’t work.
Something to improve : the app has a very hard time to detect the hiragana nu when the user writes it. Could it be made less sensitive for this character ?ThoMiCroN
