Best free app to teach kana
I’m a Japanese teacher facing the prospect of teaching Japanese 1 online this fall. I’ve spent a week on the App Store trying out every kana-teaching app that I could find. I’ve tried over 34 apps at this point! And to be perfectly honest, this is the ONLY app I’ve found that has what I’m looking for: It teaches how to WRITE kana while also teaching audio and visual recognition. The quizzes test both recognition (reading) and production (writing). There is audio reinforcement throughout both practices and tests. The home screen has a simple interface that shows progress at a glance. As a teacher, I can ask my students to show me screenshots of their quiz results or their home screen as evidence of their progress. The real important thing is that this app corrects students’ handwriting mistakes as they use it, which is something that I unfortunately can’t do in an asynchronous online learning environment. The app is fully free, unlike many of its competitors, although the paid version removes advertisements and unlocks a more robust “review” feature for users who have finished progressing through the hiragana and katakana chart the first time. Very fun when writing
When I’m writing in hiragana when I first got the app. It was very fun when you practiced and then you take the test. If you fail in the test you also get to retake and practice more. Thanks for making this fun for everyone.thecoolerhacker
Very helpful
I’ve started learning Japanese and most language apps don’t teach you how you should be writing the characters. This app has helped me revise my characters and teach me how to write the characters correctly. It doesn’t teach Japanese but it’s a good supplement app for if you’re trying to immerse yourself in the learning.Show lessAliemlu

Kana
The best way to memorize the Kana is to write them. This app has you practice and them write Hirigana and also Katakana. It is the only app I have found that does this. My only request would be that once a few sections have been completed, there could be sort of an overall test of what has been learned. Why wouldn’t anyone rate it 5 stars?
I know it has ads but it’s a free app, easy for anyone to use, and it helps me learn better than any other app, and combined with others it helps even more. I 100% suggest this app for any eager learner.kaylajoy12321
