No way to unfreeze my credit report

I placed a security freeze on my EquiFax credit report to protect it. But now I want to refinance my mortgage and can't get it unfrozen.

This app did not work. It only gave “Error 112”

I tried the website. I can login and request the freeze be removed but just get an error message saying the request cannot be processed and instructing me to call.

I tried calling. Only get a robot that says to use the website, fax or mail a letter.

I tried typing a letter with copies of ID and faxed it in. Their fax machine does not answer.

I tried sending the letter in via US Mail. I got a letter back confirming that the freeze had been lifted. But it hasn't. The lender told me they could not get it. Equifax says my credit score is 0. Other credit unions have it at over 750.

Who can I scream at to make this work? It's costing me lots of money to pay high interest rate on my mortgage when I could get it refinanced to a lower rate if not for Equifax.

App works unlike web site

I have to give the app a good rating. It actually works, unlike the web site, where the link to Lock and Alert gives the good old “Safari can’t find the server” message. I was about to despair my chances of relocking my report until I logged into the app and it took all of 5 seconds — it took a lot longer for me to pull up my password. What can be very confusing is that L&A is a different account/password than any previous Eqfx password you may have used. Several months ago this app actually also saved me from a possible problem with my mortgage closing. I had been able to unfreeze my other reports, but could not make it happen on Eqfx website. The app made it work. Is “locked” a watered down version of “frozen”? Probably, but I’ll take it if it’s the best I can get. It seems to be functionally equivalent as far as I can tell.

Response from developer

Thank you for letting us know. Yes, Lock&Alert and Equifax.com accounts are different, so, your login credentials may be different. Lock & Alert locks your Equifax credit report; unlocks your Equifax credit report; and alerts you of your lock and unlock status as well. It's designed to be simple and convenient.

Works as expected

I had previously created an Equifax Lock & Alert account on my computer and wanted a quick easy way to lock/unlock my account no matter where I am. I downloaded the app, logged in with my existing credentials and was immediately able to lock my account back after I had unlocked it to apply for credit.

Deliberate fail

There is really no reason this app should not work flawlessly, but it fails in the most basic way. I set up my account on the Equifax website and froze my credit. Then I downloaded this app so I could unfreeze on the go. The app does not recognize my user name and password that I set up 10 minutes ago. And three incorrect attempts lock me out of my account. I’m sure the developer will respond to this with “hey buddy, give us a call so we can fix this.” Why should I devote my time to fixing your screwed up app? Look at every review for the last year. They all say this problem is persistent. Clearly Equifax doesn’t want people freezing their credit or having any control over their information because it messes with their business model. They should have been put out of business when they allowed the sensitive personal credit information of half the country(!) to be hacked. So forget this app. I’m leaving my credit frozen and if any company uses Equifax I simply won’t give them my business until they switch credit information suppliers.

Update: of course Equifax has separate login credentials for its app and website, that’s the most needlessly complicated possible approach so that’s naturally what Equifax went with. Why in the world would you want your Equifax account time be universally accepted across all platforms? Ease of use? Convenience?

Forgot password end up with everything being locked

I forgot my password and tried to reset it. I followed the usually process ( taped forget password and provided my sensitive information ) just for it to tell me that “the information you entered is incorrect “. I contacted customer service which was pointless . I a foreigner answered who was hard to understand and didn’t really answer my question . Eventually I ended up locking everything not knowing what I’m doing. She said that there is a “maintenance period “ ?

So long story short fix your app and let people Recover their password and login .
Please and thank you

The app works fine.

I don’t know what people are complaining about. If you’re having issues pressing the “Continue” button while signing up, then don’t auto fill the fields (makes the boxes yellow and won’t work). I’m able to sign in fine too.

Terrible

Terrible all and customer service when I went to sign up I answered all my credit report reference questions correctly and then spent 20 minutes with a woman from customer service on the phone repeatedly saying she didn’t understand and that she was hard of hearing and asked me the same questions about a department store cars 7-8 time which I’ve never had one I’m familiar with my own report and know what’s on it give her information proving so and then still decided she couldn’t help me

Don’t waste your time

I downloaded the app today. Put all my sensitive info in to signup. Got to the bottom of the page clicked on CONTINUE...and it doesn’t go to the next page. It went nowhere. I felt like I just sent my personal info into the dark web. I then went ahead and checked the reviews to find out if this is a scam app. Lots of one star reviews. It was my fault not checking the reviews first before downloading the app and putting in all my info. Lesson learned. Thanks Equifax, if that’s really who you are.

Fed up with Equifax

This is a credit bureau that is supposed to be trusted with our personal information. I locked my account at the beginning of 2018. Apparently, during their “reorganization” they completely deleted my account, even though my credit is still locked. Trying to create another account has been a HUGE joke. The 800 # is useless, the website is useless, and the app is useless. Why when we call a CREDIT BUREAU are we speaking to someone who barely speaks English!? Time to stand up, folks. This is BS.

This is a scam by Equifax.

Instead of simply as well as fairly providing an app to freeze & unfreeze credit, Equifax came up with another scheme called ‘lock’ which will allow them to use the individual account information for marketing purpose.

They are both free alright, but my personal information is once again up for sale under the latter program. Among the big three credit bureaus, only TransUnion has a separate app called ‘my transunion’ dedicated to freeze & unfreeze credit.
