Clunky and weird pop up issues

The app is incredibly clunky to use and often messes up things as I try to move them.

It’s great that I am able to edit a website via my phone or iPad but the app just isn’t working correctly.

Also I’ve noticed frequent pop-ups when trying to load a page from something called “trust arc” which is incredibly disruptive as it interrupts editing pages.

“Pages” is almost useless now…

They’ve removed so many staples that I used to use regularly to compose my website pages, especially for various blogs I have on my site showcasing writing for different projects I undertake. I can no longer embed links over text, nor can I insert YouTube videos, and I am unable to add or edit text created as captions for photographs, among other things. I now have to use the website editor in my iPad’s browser to access things I used to be able to do in-app. Such a huge letdown. A huge focus seems to be on analytics which isn’t that important to me. What’s worse is on the iPhone version, it won’t even let you access the website page editing tools on the iPhone browsers. Really sad. Why am I paying over $300 a year for each of my 2 websites, for something that no longer works well for me?

Incredibly frustrating & clunky app

Building a website on a main computer is a relatively simple experience with SquareSpace. Editing & updating the site via the app while away from the computer though is massively frustrating. The app itself is very clunky, slow to use & riddled with issues, for instance I’m currently trying to edit some text on my homepage, but in the editor, the viewing screen will now allow me to scroll down to see the bottom of the page, it keeps pinging the viewing area up to an earlier portion of the text, which makes typing & editing the text impossible (Im attempting to add a hyperlink, which I can’t do as the screen scrolls away, locking out of highlighting the text to add a link).

Furthermore to this, the app is missing a LOT of tools available on the main site, even simple stuff like adding a photo album to a blog post, is unavailable on the app.

I’m greatly disappointed, as one of my goals with the site was to update it regularly with blog posts & fresh pages, which the app struggles with greatly, & being mobile with my work, this is a major shortfall.

I’ve reached out to customer service, who did back to me, basically saying “that’s all we’re adding for now, good luck”. If I realised this when choosing my site provider, I wouldn’t have settled on SquareSpace.

It is still not valid that you could do everything with the app like on the browser

This app is good but it becomes a frustrating experience when it could not do what is available via a web browser. Your iPad alone will not do, your Mac is required to properly edit or manage your site. After setting my website on a Mac, I still could not use the app to conveniently manage images, captions, properly manage posts and edit posts. I have to have my Mac. Also WHY does a carriage return creates a double carriage return? Is this something that is different for each temple? But I doubt that because I have tried other templates and they did the same thing. Please, it has been some years now, and we would REALLY, REALLY, REALLY appreciate it if you would make your app on par with the features via a web browser. This will make your claim valid when you say we can do everything on the app.

Reply to Squarespace: thank you, but Squarespace is assuming that everyone knows an Enter key is synonymous with a Return key; and since Squarespace is promoting its mobile app to manage Squarespace websites, this assumption is problematic because a keyboard on a touchscreen behaves differently than a hardware keyboard — the shift-return (shift-enter) does not generate a “soft return”. What is obvious to Squarespace is not necessarily obvious to its users.

We appreciate your feedback. As far as returns, when you start a new line of text by pressing "enter" on your keyboard, this renders a "hard return," which is a double-spaced line break. If you'd prefer a single-spaced line break, you can use a "soft return" by pressing the Shift + Enter keys together. This will start a new line immediately under the previous one.

Transfer from Google Domains

Expected more from from the brand Squarespace. This app doesn’t address domain management at all. Nada!
If you’re overtaking Google’s domain mgmt side of the business, the app should incorporate that. Period.
I get minimalist design, least clicks away UX mantra… yatayatayata. But c’mon. You’re missing out on making a great impression on users (like myself) coming from Google Domains. What I saw when I opened your app was so bland and unimpressive that I thought I must have installed a knockoff; not the real thing. An app developer on their first semester of college would have come up with something monumentally better in terms of making a first impression on a new user. And I’m certain that there are many great features hidden inside the app for users that already have a website with you guys. But I don’t. And you’re not making it any easier on me to use your services if I was planning to make a website from one of my domains that got transferred over to you.
It’s pretty basic. A Ma & Pa restaurant gets it: if you’re going to offer a new dish, put it on the efing menu!

Thanks for leaving a review. The Squarespace app offers feature to make edits to your website on-the-go, but it doesn't support all of Squarespace's features. To access full settings like domain management, you can log in via a computer. We're always looking for ways to improve and add on to the app, so we appreciate your feedback. Glitchy and fails to update properly

While I love the Squarespace web design on the desktop or laptop, I had a terrible experience with the app. No matter how many times I updated my website through my computer and double checked that it was updated on the mobile version, the app would never take my new updates. It would only reflect updated items. It would not show me the desktop preview through the app and kept crashing or giving me an error screen whenever I tried. Many times the app would suddenly refresh itself back to my home screen home page preview in the middle of me previewing a different page. Several times the app crashed in the middle of my edits and did not save my changes. I tried logging out and logging back in several times as well as re-downloading the app and I continued to have these problems. It was really disappointing, especially after seeing so many raving reviews from other app users.

Absolute trash

App used to be semi-decent but they keep taking away functionality & it just goes in circles or you tap to edit a page and it does nothing, or only gives the option to duplicate or delete the page. I can’t lug my laptop around all the time and need to be able to truly edit on the go, create blog posts, etc.
Why would you take away features that were already there? Totally useless now, don’t bother downloading, you will indeed have to wait until you can make all your changes on a desktop. What a waste of potential.

iPad Experience

Squarespace stands out as an exceptional platform, particularly for individuals with limited website-building experience. Its user-friendly interface and accessibility make it an ideal choice for newcomers in the digital realm.

One of Squarespace's greatest strengths lies in its ability to empower beginners to create and manage their websites with ease. The intuitive design and straightforward navigation streamline the process, allowing users to focus on content creation rather than grappling with complex technicalities.

However, while Squarespace excels in many aspects, there is one significant drawback that potential users should be aware of. The functionality of the Squarespace app on iPad devices falls short of expectations. I only experience frequent crashes, prolonged loading times, and occasional failures to save edits, rendering the app impractical for efficient website management. I have a brand new IPad Pro with an M2 chip, so this can not be the issue.

Would I have known how useless it was to design the app through the IPad I would have not picked this provider from my website.

Looking forward to you guys fixing this.

Not for use on app

Trialing squarespace, I am very disappointed by its complexity and that neither the app on iPad or iPhone works. Glitchy, can’t edit pages and goes in circles, not intuitive to use at all. Will not be using this service but I hope they can improve to be more user friendly.

Scam.

It’s not free to get your business public. It’s glitchy and nothing ever saves. Definitely do not recommend! It’s a waste of time!
