  • Almost perfect

I like it very much; easy to use, and I can finally learn on the go.

One feature request I have is that it would be nice to visually overview previous lessons other than the current one. When I click on “Show all” under the current level section, I can see all the kanji in that lesson. But I’d like to see previous level in a similar fashion. It’s been a long time since I used wanikani, and all my level one kanjis have been pretty much forgotten. It would be nice if I could look look over them outside of the official reviews.
  • The Joy of Kanji

This app is simply a delight to use. Everything I want (including a reviews forecast and other features that would normally require plugins) in a lovely UI that leaves me feeling refreshed.

(Don’t laugh. When you set out to learn over 2,000 characters, that stuff is going to be a *part of your life*. It makes a difference whether that part energizes and renews you or taxes and annoys you.)

Anyway, I love WaniKani but had to set up all kinds of reminders, systems, etc. so that I would remember to use the desktop app. The iPhone app offers convenient reminders and lets me check WaniKani whenever I have to wait in a line or kill some time before an appointment - plus, it wraps it in the aforementioned lovely package. What more could you want?
  • Great App

This app makes it so much easier to stay on top off your WK reviews. The app is customizable and has great features such as: (1) you can add synonyms to words if you need to as you do your reviews. (2) you don’t have to be online to do your reviews. (3) you can download the audio of the vocabulary words. (4). There are more things you can do with it.

If you are serious about WK this is a must have.
  • Love it!!

This app is super great, it’s super helpful in letting me use wanikani on the go, because the mobile website for wanikani is a bit hard to use. I love the ignore answer feature (I mistype all the time because of the small phone keyboard) and the ability to save reviews offline and upload at a later time. I do wish there was an option to add mnemonics to the kanji and vocab and hopefully the app will be updated to use the new audio too!!
  • Incredibly fast, easy to type in responses

This app has helped me get the most out of my WaniKani experience. It is convenient, responds quickly to input, and lets you blast through your vocabulary and kanji on the go without having to futz with the clunky browser version.

In a specific way, Tsurukame also accommodates those with comically large fingers with its “allow misspellings” tool, which lets people with big thumbs to type our English responses more easily without having to spellcheck everything we type on a tiny mobile keyboard—something the mobile site would has dinged me for, and has probably set me back numerous times even when I knew the correct answers in English.

There are concerns about using this feature to cheat on your vocabulary but the app still won’t count any input not resembling the official response (not sure if it detects adjacent letters on the keyboard or something but it’s brilliant).
  • Almost Perfect

I love this app! It makes doing lessons and reviews when you are not at a computer a lot easier.

The only gripe I have (and the reason for the loss of a star) is that occasionally it won’t upload your queued reviews. I think that the issue is when you are not on wi-fi, lose connection mid review, or if you go out of the app mid-review. You have to then sign out and you lose all of your progress. It only happens occasionally, but it’s still frustrating.
  • Essential for my WaniKani flow

Really glad I discovered this app. I do about half of my WaniKaniing on my laptop and the other half on my phone, and the mobile site isn’t that great for WK. This app does just about everything I want it to. I have installed some scripts in my browser that offer some features that this app doesn’t, but the functionality the app offers outweighs what it’s missing. The fact that it’s free amazes me, I would definitely pay a few bucks for it! Thank for to the developer for making it that much easier to study this crazy hard language!
  • More convenient than WK mobile site

I didn’t think I would like this initially because the mobile site for WK is pretty nice. After trying it for a while, I can say that this app is definitely worth using! I usually use the mobile site for lessons and the app for reviews.

My only gripe: if you write the Japanese READING when the question is asking for the MEANING, you will miss the question.

Obviously that is correct, but if you’re using the mobile site you’ll just get a warning that they want the meaning from you, not a missed question. This is a small gripe though (honestly I just need to slow down and read the question), and the app overall is really great.
  • Great WK app with solid addons

I’ve used this app for a couple months and it’s been stellar. It has override and stroke order, which are musts for me.

This has been a 5-star app experience, but unfortunately as of last week it has started closing immediately upon opening (on my iPhone 7). So I’m leaving this at 3 stars for now with the hope that I can revisit the app and the star rating soon.
  • Thank you for this amazing app!

I am so thankful for this app. I made the mistake of trying a couple others first, but they were just mobile web versions. This app makes the text big enough so that you're not making stupid typos, has a great interface, and provides super handy features. This is the only WaniKani app that deserves the name, and might mean the difference in me continuing to spend $ on WaniKani. Thank you!!!
