  • Makes using WK on the go so much nicer!

I first tried to get into WK about a year ago, but since I’m almost always on the go and not I front of a computer I found it difficult. This app changed everything - very quick to respond, super easy to understand, and the review scheduling really helps me to stay on top of maximizing my review cycles. The only thing I wish it would do would be to send a notification to my lock screen when new reviews or lessons are ready to go - that way I wouldn’t have to keep checking in on the app badge to see if I missed a review opportunity.

5 stars all the way (six if you add the notifications 😉)
  • Very well done

This app is fantastic. There are three things though I’d love to see in the future

    1) audio. Right now you can’t learn the proper inflection of words because there is no audio. It would be fantastic if we could download the audio files offline so we can hear them.

    2) lesson order. I noticed that the lessons are ordered in reverse as compared to the website. This is nice if you want to make progress on the next set of kanji or radicals. But it’d be better if we could shoes the lesson order ourselves as some may prefer the native behavior.

    3) library. It would be great if we could browse the library of vocabulary and kanji like you can do on the website. There are ways to search for items, but there is no list to browse through.

Thanks guys for your hard work!
  • Best WK App

Definitely the best WK app (finally one that supports iPhone X!), you can tell it’s had a lot of time put in it. I think with a few small tweaks it could be perfect:

Top of my wish list is inserting the “enter answer” text into the input field like the web version does. It would be very helpful in making it so you can immediately see whether you’re answering reading or meaning (so Japanese text for reading, English for meaning)

Aside from that I’d like to see the item numbers by SRS tier (apprentice/guru etc.) on the home screen like the web version does and I’d also like to see the input field go green and red for correct/incorrect like web version.
  • App is clearly improving

I started using the app several months ago and I can tell the developer has put some effort into bug fixing and making improvements. All my lessons work fine and the features are real nice. I’ve really enjoyed using the app and switched from the other wanikani app that’s been around longer. This app is more mobile friendly in my opinion.

A couple recommendations for future improvements.
    1. I miss seeing the example sentence provided on wanikani when I’m going through the new lessons. Any way to tap into that?
    2. If you click on the circular graphs it tells you the progress of radicals, kanji and vocab but I can’t seem to figure out how to read the line graph and the blue bars. Which one represents the number of reviews coming up and what does the other item represent?

Thanks for all your hard work!
  • Finally!

The fact that this is a native app and not a web wrapper is very obvious, both in polish and performance. It’s very well done and I’m really enjoying it. Please don’t stop developing/maintaining this, I would gladly pay for this app.

I really have no complaints as it nails the lessons and reviews part. There’s always room for improvement though, and additional functionality with the charting could be cool or maybe forum access.

Overall, fantastic. Such a huge improvement over the previous attempts and I’m glad the WK community has such great people like this Dev who make amazing things like this for everyone.
  • Best WaniKani App Yet

Just started using this one but have used other WaniKani apps for the past five years. With the most recent release, it has surpassed the other apps.

Supports iPhone X, clean interface, easy to use, and supports all the scripts I use.

    Two minor critiques:
First, when I type “n”, I have to press n twice for it to convert. Other apps have figured out that one “n” means ん and doesn’t mark it as wrong. I’ve gotten in the habit of just typing one “n” and have missed a few like this.

Second, it would be cool to incorporate the script that changes font styles. I noticed that my comprehension went way down when using that script because I was trained to only recognize the one “WaniKani font”. It’s a nice to have.

Keep up the brilliant work, developer! Thanks for an awesome app!
