  • Useless release notes and badly needs an iPad version.

Hy-Vee is a fine grocery store. The one I grew up with and the one I still prefer not that they are in the twin cities. However, this app is sorely needing in some basic updates. First, as a software developer and a thoughtful consumer it’s unacceptable that the release notes are copy/paste of some generic pablum about “behind the scenes” changes. There were some fairly significant UI changes recently, but you would never know from the description of the update.
Much more importantly though this app needs an iPad version. This app is iPhone only and scales very poorly. The iPad is not some niche device. It’s mainstream and offers some significant when it comes to exactly this type of application and use case (screen real estate, keyboard/mouse support, etc). This alone has me using the Target app more often since it offers similar product mix and features in a much more pleasant format.

  • Increasing problems (lost a star)

Overall, the app works alright. I use it every week to pick up groceries (curbside), but has some ongoing issues.

If you open an item in a list to order it, you cannot scroll the list anymore until you "move" the same "frozen" item. This can be a tiny move that doesn't change the order of the list, but in doing so, it opens the item again which then requires you to close the item.

This is tiring/frustrating after a dozen items and maddening after 50 items every week. My family can't understand why I am cursing when I am ordering groceries every week. Many times, if I can wait and order it from Walmarket later, I will skip some groceries to save time -- I have more important things to do than to waste time clicking in a grocery app.

Now, with a recent update, something has gone terribly wrong with the lists. I can no longer scroll to open any lists not already accessible on the screen. The list just "bounces" back up before you can click on the lists off the screen. This is very upsetting as my existing lists cannot be reduced/mixed without causing problems.

Increasing problems means one less star.

  • Love the convenience of this app, just one small gripe

I started using this app during lockdown, and it has been a lifesaver for me. I have a baby and don’t feel comfortable going into the store with her, at this time. So the convenience of ordering online for curbside pickup is absolutely wonderful!

The tiny gripe I have regarding the app is that the “search” bar does not clear itself. If I search “ground beef,” I understand that still being in the search bar when I go to type in the next item. But if I back out to the front page of the app from “ground beef,” I get frustrated that I still have to delete those words before I can type anything else.

I know that’s the tiniest of all inconveniences, I am just used to the search bar working that way on everything else, and I end up typing two items in on top of each other and then having to click around to delete all the text before I can correct my search.

  • Some convenience, but need to check order

The convenience of using the app instead of going to the store should be great. However, I have rarely had an order that was complete or didn’t require a substitution. They don’t tell you what items aren’t available nor is it clear from the receipt. I basically don’t know an item is missing until I’m home and unpacking or ready to prepare a meal - quite inconvenient as it is a 30 minute drive to the nearest store. I also have been disappointed that not all items stocked in the store are order-able in the app. So,I have returned to in person shopping to be sure I know what I’m getting and have the full selection of all items stocked in the store.

  • Almost a great app

I switched to this app from the regular HyVee app because some options were no longer available when they merged the two apps. For the most part it is good and has what I need, it’s just a little different layout that I need to get used to. The one thing I do miss is the option to search for an item in the deals tab. On the old app I could type in a brand name or a description, and I could see if there was a sale or coupon. Now I have to figure out which category it’s in and filter it by category. I have to look through a lot of unrelated items and sometimes I’m not sure if I selected the right category. A search feature for the deals and coupons would make this app great.

  • Needs to have a different section

I love this app and how easy it is to use. I do pick up at least once a week. The only thing I find frustrating about this app is a notification. It will do a pop up saying that items in your cart are not available and have been removed. It would be nice if there was a section showing what was removed from the cart. When planning out dinners I add ingredients for 4-5 meals, and sometimes I have very large orders. Then, like tonight, I am missing cream of mushroom soup that I needed for my dish. It is very frustrating especially when we are trying to limit exposure time due to covid.

  • Keeps Getting Better!

Just used Aisles Online for the first time in awhile at the HyVee on 64th Street in Kansas City. They’ve drastically cut the lead time needed for orders and now use texting to tell you the order is ready. When you leave your house you reply to that text with “Go” and when you arrive you text again “Here”. Flawless.

You can even let them know which of your ordered items for which you will accept a substituted item.

I would encourage you to try this service. Super convenient and fast!

  • Hy-Vee app was better

It’s a pain to have to scroll through all the different variations in each item that is on sale. One should understand that if Gatorade is on sale that all flavors would be on sale. Why is there a posting for every flavor instead of like the old app that said “x” amount of flavors included. Over half of the ads are repeat of something already shown in that sense. Also there is no way of searching in the ad section what you want to look for. Classic case of we had a good thing going so let’s put out a new app to add one nice feature to the original app but take away a ton of features that made the other app great.

  • App is fine

The App is fine. I can’t say it’s better than the old one unfortunately. In fact they have made it slightly harder to make my grocery list and find my loaded coupons.
I prefer to shop in person and the App seems geared toward someone shopping from home. I can easily click an add to cart option to buy the groceries but have to click on each item to add it to my shopping list. You’ve added an unnecessary step I don’t appreciate. Let me add to list first and then give me the option to add my list to the cart and buy online. Also, once I have clicked to load a coupon I can’t seem to find a list of the loaded coupons on there while shopping. Not sure how that helps.

  • Time saving blessing

Absolutely love this app. Not being able to shop in person due to myself and special needs adult daughter being higher risk, this app is a huge blessing. The only thing that would make it better is if there was a way to add to my shopping list within 24 hours of pick up if I forgot to add something. If there is I haven’t found it so far. Our HyVee store though is exceptional in Papillion they really are a helpful smile in every aisle.
