Reviews of Run With Hal

  • Super helpful! Edit to add a small complaint

This app is going to be a game changer for me. As a mom of 3 busy kids and going back to school I do not have the mental energy to plan workouts let alone a several month journey to my first marathon. I love how I can enter my race day, my standing rest day, the days I am available, and my goal pace. It lays it all out for me so I don’t have to. I also love the “Hal says” feature. It’s very encouraging, even when I skip a day! My race isn’t until June and it is giving me maintenance runs so I’ll be ready to start officially training in January.

So the maintenance runs did not prepare me for the actual marathon training so it was a rough first couple of weeks, but I’m feeling like I’m getting stronger the more I stick to it, I just have to slow my pace down (slower than the plan recommends). Also, the cross training day is still entered as a run. For example: it asks the duration and distance. I biked for 35 minutes and went 8 miles, according to the bike. It had me double check because that pace is crazy fast. lol. It would be a nice feature to be able to enter the actual Xtraining activity. Not a big deal. I still like the app and appreciate it’s convenience.
  • Great guidance at the right time

If you are looking for some guidance to get to the next level in your running this app is for you. They give you a 14 day trial so why wait?

Answer the questions honestly and this app will direct your training for you to get results. The base runs it suggests for you will be at slower pace than you would expect, but these are the key to getting results. Sounds counterintuitive, but stay in the pace recommendations even though you have gas for more. You will need it on the days with race pace and tempo runs where you can go all out.

The reality is you are going to have train hard and put in the time and effort, but this app will take out the guesswork on the training strategy which is equally important!
  • Very Helpful

Was never a “runner” until my first 10 mile race. I never thought it would be possible for me to run 10 miles nonstop at a fairly decent pace, so I knew I would need a little help to train.

My buddy recommended this app to me so I thought “why not”? Best recommendation ever. By plugging in your experience, race length/day, and goal time, this app gives an entire layout of what to do every day. And just know you need to TRUST THE PROCESS! It may seem weird what it has you doing some days. It may seem too slow, not enough distance, etc. during training days, but after further researching running, they know exactly what they’re doing.

I ended up running the 10-miler at an 8:30 pace after I had anticipated about a 9:45 pace. Now training for my first ever marathon and my full faith is in this app to lead me there. Thanks Hal.
