App is garbage

It can’t connect.

The app has simple, clear instructions on how to connect to the device. Unfortunately, it just doesn’t work. After connecting to the device wifi, the app never gives an option to do anything.

The only reason it rates ONE star is because the device is still usable without the app.

Setup could be better, app is ok

The big question I had was, “Does the app do scheduling?” And yes it does! You can set up per day schedules which is helpful for me as a shift worker. It works fine after setup and is on par with an app like Lutron’s for their hub.

The downside is: setup is funky. Even with a newer Winix model, pairing to WiFi feels like a yesteryear process. There’s no NFC tap setup, no Bluetooth… Connecting to the purifier involves connecting to its own WiFi network during setup.

This wouldn’t be bad except the app doesn’t give a lot of feedback about what might be going wrong during setup. Upon opening the app, I was asked to give a location permission. I allowed it while the app was open, but disabled precise location. Because of this, WiFi setup wouldn’t complete. After some digging on Reddit, I found that enabling precise location would fix it and voila: I was allowed to proceed and finish setup. I changed the permission back once setup was completed.

I’m ok sharing location for air quality info, but I do think it’s funny that despite initially requiring precise location, the town I live in wasn’t even included in the list of places supporting outdoor air quality. I had to pick the nearest city instead.

I would really like to have widgets for quicker access to controls, and HomeKit support (virtually nobody has this) would be nice to have as well. I’d rather control the unit with Siri than Alexa or Google.

STOP

Stop asking for marketing consent every time I open the app. No means NO.

Privacy concern

The app only works if you give all your sensitive data like your exactly location.

Why do I need to give my sensitive location to be capable of connect to the wifi of the device?

This feels like a big scam to gather user sensitive data.
The app does not work if you don’t agree and give all the data the app asks for. You can’t use any basic feature or the app at all without give away your sensitive data.

Bad company

I really dislike how this company does business in so many ways. Here’s one example. I spend the time making the order and then I get an email a couple days later that’s says “address verification needed” or we will cancel the order. I’ve already given them a billing and an shipping address. I guess that’s suspicious although I don’t know why. Why giving them both addresses again in an email does anything to verify the address is odd. When ordering they force you to verify your address by pushing a button to do so already, so why a third time? Also, I’ve already purchased from them before and confirmed my addresses. Winix you verify whether or not it’s a real address on your backend. I have a business selling our manufactured product and have never had to put customers through this. I buy thousands of items online and have never had to do this with any other company. It’s odd, it’s holds up the order, and it’s unnecessary.

Account setup FAIL

Created an account, when I try to login it says password and email don’t match. I’ve now reset my password three times. Still the same message… FAIL

Poor Wifi Management

We recently purchased our machine and connected to the wifi successfully upon setup. A little while later either the wifi button was accidentally pressed or the wifi glitched on our end and it disconnected. In order to get it working again we had to completely delete and re-connect the purifier on the app, losing all stats and information previously collected about air quality.

There is no spot on the app to easily re-connect wifi without having to lose all info - or if there is, we were not able to find it.

Terrible User Experienc

1. You open the app and you are stuck on an infinite loop of Firmware Updates. You can never leave the Firmware Updates. You can't schedule them for later after you have finished doing what you are trying to do on the app, you know, like setting up a schedule for your "smart device". No, you are stuck in the Firmware Update Infinite Loop.
2. Somehow you have managed to get past the Firmware Update Infinite Loop and now it tells you your device is not connected to the Wifi. You click "Okay" and it is still not connected to the Wifi. Here's a suggestion: If the device is not connected to the Wifi offer to reconnect it to the Wifi. Its late 2023, you think the software developers would stop using 1980's interface practises.
