  • Love!!

We’ve been wanting to teach my daughter how to play the piano, but we don’t know how to teach it. This was so pretty with all the colors, it’s easy to travel with and most importantly, it actually teaches you lessons little by little. Very easy to use as well, which is a plus!
  • LUMI absolutely kills it

I can’t put this keyboard down. It feels so solid and the best part about it is the app. Such a good value for what it does!! Best purchase of my life! Thanks LUMI!
  • The Lumi app is amazing!! Gets anyone musical!

The Lumi is way more than I expected it to be! What was supposed to be simple way to teach me piano chords and have some fun ended up being a family affair! My five-year-old son is loving it too! Now it’s some thing we play together the app is simple and easy to use, he is using it himself!! The hardware was easy to set up works perfectly with it & it is so much fun! Def recommend a Lumi over a standard keyboard any day! We want to add another keyboard!!!

  • best app/hardware combo for learning piano

I bought this for my eleven year old daughter hoping she would use it in her free time instead of playing video games. Now all she does is practice and we’re browsing Craigslist for a piano. I had to write this review because I’m so happy. She’s obsessed learning songs on LUMI and I think she might continue with music. Thank you!

  • Light on lessons

Got through all the lessons in 2 weeks of doing about one “chapter” (10-15 minutes or so) per night. Last chapter is harder than it should be based on the previous progression of difficulty, but still leaves you far from being even a beginner level. Doesn’t teach/practice note reading or teach chords etc. Nice music selection, but unless you can magically teach yourself to move beyond beginner level, or simply get good at it guitar hero style, you won’t walk away being able to “play” the piano beyond a very beginner level and songs you can play by ear (since it doesn’t teach reading music) Not that I thought I would become a classic pianist from this, but I was hopeful it would move me beyond the year of piano lessons when I was 6. I didn’t.

  • So much promise, hindered by poor app design

This hardware/software combination is on the verge of a magical teaching experience however several poor design choices and bugs make it a frustrating experience, made all the more painful because the promise of what it could be really is that good.

1 - Design flaw (major) - there’s no way to skip to or just practice one part of a lesson... you can pause or watch the whole thing. So if you only need to practice one part of a full lesson or only want to practice the whole song again, you have to repeat the entire lessons with intros and all. This is an absurdly frustrating design choice and can /should be corrected.
2 - Design flaw (minor) - it provides a confusing and incomplete experience to browse all available content... luckily you rarely want to do this... so it’s only a minor issue at this time.
3 - Bug - The Lumi App must be force-quit and restarted in order to properly pair with the keyboard again. Sometimes you need to repeat this multiple times before successfully connecting.
4 - Bug - Sometimes it will lose track of the fact that you’ve already completed multiple lessons.

Bottom line: The content is exceptionally well produced. The hardware/software, when working well or not hindered by app design flaws is borderline magical... but I can’t recommend in its current form. If those issues were resolved I’d say run out and get one immediately.

  • Addictive

I bought this LUMI for my daughters 10th birthday, hoping the appeal of playing current music would inspire her to learn an instrument. She loves it... and frankly I think I love it even more than her. I sneak it when she is not looking just to play. It’s fun, engaging, I’ve had no issues with the app so far, no glitches. I’d love to see in future app updates finger placement - the appeal of the modern mucus is there, I’d love to see an option to see the fingers playing (correctly) on screen for those of us with no piano backgrounds. But seriously guys. Amazing. Starting to save for a second keyboard now.

  • Needs work.

This app is a good start but I’ve ran into an annoying bug. When in the training modules it has you play keys and then after a bit it will judge you on your timing however no matter if you are early or late it continues to just say early. If I pause the song and then hit play the song will then start playing with the backing track and timing clicks and will actually judge your timing correctly. Before the pause it was just the keys you were playing.

  • Fun but glitchy

This is a fun way to play piano, but there are a number of critical issues: the audio is usually out of sync with the video, whether it is a piano roll, or a presentation. The app also often crashes repeatedly when I start the app and go to section 3 of the lessons.

It would be really useful to be able to go back to a previous point in a lesson: at the moment, the only option is to replay the entire lesson.

I echo the remark of another user that indicating fingering would be extremely useful when playing a piece.
