Great router,app needs work
I love,love,love this router. I am in control and know who is using the internet and for what. The app is a little buggy. It will freeze and not allow settings to be changed. Deleting and downloading a new app doesn’t fix it. Resetting the router is required. This has happened twice in the last week and it is time consuming to start over with all the settings. Nevertheless, this is the best router I have ever used and it is money well spent.Show lessJSNTM
Does not update status
There are MANY user experience problems with this app, but the one that drives me crazy the most is that the app doesn’t refresh the status (and other data) automatically based on the schedule. I have to refresh manually and when it does update there’s no indication that it updated successfully.
So I will think my kids devices are suspended, but really they’re not, and vice versa.
I also always have problems with dropped connections and it blocking access to devices it shouldn’t. Even support hasn’t been able to help me figure many of the issues out. I’ve found workarounds, but this app has many many problems.Show lessJaybirdmedia
Latest app redesign is buggy at best
Update: this app is getting much better! Updated to 4 stars. Thank you SO much for adding Categories to the access control!!
I bought the Gryphon tower in 2020. The app was responsive and worked great. Since then, there have been at least 2 redesigns and the app has gotten worse with each one. It looks nice but it times out often. Sometimes I can’t switch profiles the devices are on because the app just won’t cooperate. A reboot (of the tower) to get a different response on the app only works half the time. *Please* fix the app! (Update: the app is working MUCH faster now!)Show lessCassiopeia829
Struggles to deliver on its promise
I continue to use the mesh router product as a secondary network for my kids’ devices, but the app is too unreliable to use the product as my one and only. I mostly want reliable parental control features without an ongoing subscription, and that is what keeps me as a customer. But I have been repeatedly disappointed by the declining quality over the past two years. A stable UI is too ambitious for this app. I want their feature of temporarily modifying screen time restrictions for the remainder of the day. This feature worked great 2 years ago, then they consciously removed the feature during their UI refresh, then reinstated it thanks to customer feedback, but have so far not been able to keep that feature stable. On Sundays, the feature does not work, for several months now. I am so thoroughly disappointed, but I have burned so much time on trying to get this product to work for 2 years that I feel like I have to stick with it, especially since I don’t know of any other product that claims to offer the same set of features. Dashboard doesn’t work for iOS
Today’s internet schedule doesn’t show on user dashboard, there is not option to disable and enable scheduled time!!! Can you please fix it!Fjjrbjj
No control
My primary use is to manage screen time for our family. Thing is, I can suspend internet to specific devices, specific users, or suspend it totally but my six year old (much less the older kids) can still watch tv and use whatever device they want. The workarounds to limits and suspended internet are numerous and easy. It’s like a sieve it lets so many things through. I’m sure I could do a bunch of research and refigure my set up and get some improvement but that’s what I bought the thing for! To do it for me! I’m busy and exhausted and just don’t want to keep fighting over screen time. What a fail.Show lessmiiieelu
Disappointing
This system could be good, the hardware works fine, but the software has only gotten worse with time. Biggest issues: New interface was implemented prior to updating the documentation on how to use the new interface. The new interface is still just as confusing and convoluted as the old interface. They removed the ability to remotely restart the router, the official support article now tells you to unplug it to restart. Are you kidding me!? It’s slow. I mean amazingly slow even when I am at home on the Wi-Fi network. Every screen shows the old information until you manually refresh, which gives you a false sense of knowledge. Did I mention it’s slow, once you get in the habit of manually refreshing get ready to wait or the app will freeze: “Your request has timed out”. The address blocker by URL is asinine. Cut and paste the URL from my browser and all I ever get is, “Please enter a valid URL” 🤦♂️ I don’t know if there is a better option, but I wish I had tried anything other than this one.Show lessdndjhndkxj
Used to work better
This app used to work ok (still would prefer a web interface but you HAVE to use the app) but since version 5 it logs me out every time, and takes about 1-2 minutes to “fetch some data” before letting me suspend internet for the night.
My wife and I both have this app and I used to get notified if her phone was surreptitiously used to change settings (because my kid is a hacker) but that no longer happens.
Contacting support is a black hole that goes nowhere, the problems have persisted over a month. I like the Gryphon for what it is, just wish this app worked like it did a month ago.Show lessTurkeyb0y
When the app works, it’s great…
But since the recent update, that’s rare. Having the users on the main screen is great, but the scheduled screen time takes FOREVER to load, meaning you can’t make one-time adjustments to screen time without changing the whole schedule manually. When I say it takes forever, I mean often it never loads at all. You can exit the app, kill it, move to other areas in the app, do anything you can think of to make it figure itself out and load the schedule and it still won’t. It’s wild how unresponsive it is. In the meantime, little ones who have completed all their chores and have earned their time, can’t get internet because we can’t turn off the scheduled homework or suspended time.
