Flakey…. Not Reliable To Protect Kids
When it works it’s great but unfortunately you just can’t rely on it. Recently my child was able to go on the internet during the night even though there were Screen Time rules that should have prevented it. They were able to access all sorts of sites even though those sites were set up to be blocked using the Access Control. When I check Gryphon’s browsing history it doesn’t show any activity at all. However if I go to Insights it clearly shows categories of sites that have been accessed on those dates for the same device. Unfortunately this isn’t the first situation like this over the last 8 months. The quality is flakey. Clearly all the glowing reviews online are from people who tried it for a week and then moved on.
I don’t think Gryphon understands the seriousness of the problem they are trying to solve. It’s a great idea, with poor execution. You’ve let me down, Gryphon. You’ve let my kids down. You’re like someone who says don’t worry I’ll watch your kids for you, then gets drunk and passes out on the couch.

Used to be 5 stars
With the new update on the app, I give this a 1 star now. The screen time management is completely different and not as easy to manage as before the update. I can no longer increase screen time without it changing all the days. It used to revert back. That was the best part of the app for parents who monitor their kids screen time and sometimes want to give them a little extra time for that one moment. The app is awful now. Even the way it looks. Please change it back!!!

Easy to get the wild wild web into your total control, protect your family.
Very easy to use, parental control is easy to set and forget. Wish there are more control in individual apps, in terms of usage time, not just a total time limit on everything. That will be perfect. The latest version is even better. There are still features that I am hoping for, but it’s getting there.

A few wish list and this 2 in 1 router and parental app is the most decent in the market (so far)
The internet speed is way faster than our old router. Customer service do respond, which is good. I took out 1 star for the price of the Gryphon AX, it is expensive.
I do not want to be too restricted on my kids when they are using their devices and also the internet. This is just to help them be more responsible and learn self-control. The app kinda helps me with it but I have a few wish list that I really hope the parental app can do, but nothing can be perfect in this world right?! We just have to make do with what we have.
So far this is the best that I can find after testing 5 years with all the available parental app and router in the market.

Great Router. The app—not so great.
I absolutely LOVE this router. Great signal and connectivity. I’ve had it for over a year and I think I’ve only had to reboot it twice and have lost signal the same amount (but that could be an IP issue). The app, however, has been full of glitches ever since it was updated/modified about 6 months ago or so. The user interface isn’t as easy to navigate as the former layout, and my daily schedules for screen time management have continually disappeared and needed to be reset. This is a huge inconvenience, as it is the main feature for why I went with the Gryphon router in the first place. PLEASE FIX THIS ISSUE.

Buggy app with illogical user interface.
Previous version was poor but actually worked. This version is terrible.
Great router… software buggy
The new Gryphon AX router is really fast and is great for people with lots of devices on your network. However, here are some suggested improvements:
- UI in dark mode - needs to be consistent. Some parts of the app don’t adhere to dark mode and are impossible to see. Need to revert to “cool” mode to see them which is anything but idea
- AX adds a great new feature for network and client separation. This introduces vlans which is great! However, would love it if you could select your own segment rather than defaulting to the next class C
- would be nice to be able to sort users on the user screen. Find myself scrolling through constantly
- would be nice to quickly turn off HW or Bed time from user screen (as you can do with user dashboard or on user screen with suspend)
- fix 2FA. Repeatedly asks for me to setup. After going through the process it informs me that I’m already setup. Repeats. Very annoying.
- it would be great if you could “force” a device onto the base station or repeater. Right now a device seems to get pinned to a router even if there is a better option nearby.
- add scale as a device type
- firmware screen should provide notes on exactly what was addressed in latest version. There doesn’t seem to be any place that provides details on what the latest fw fixes/addresses

Hits and misses
PROS: easy to set up, easy to use, pretty good parental controls, WiFi 6, wpa3, port scanning and malware detection, auto firmware updates, good coverage and overall speed/bitrate. Support fixed my issues with Steam voice chat and FaceTime with a firmware update.
CONS: false positives for VPN(Clash of Clans always triggers it), some false positives on Malware(Apple news), can’t seem to allow Twitch on a restricted device, initial router is pretty pricey and the subscriptions pile on the costs.
Feature requests: DNS over https at the router level for privacy, show previously blocked IPs for VPNs

Nice interface and faster access
I like the idea of being able of changing the time for each user from the first page
However, I need a view to show me the full week plan and the planned/used time

App redesign ruined this router
Since the August 2021 app redesign, I am not sure I can continue using their router. So many things are broken in the app and it is missing significant features that I relied on before. For example, there is no way in the new app to make a temporary change to a child’s schedule for the current day. The router now blocks some websites that are supposed to be allowed during “normal” time unless you set them to unrestricted. Schedules randomly disappear from the screen time tab and often when they do appear, they are missing the pause button. I could go on. I don’t know what problems they were trying to solve by completely redesigning the app, but they should have just focused on fixing bugs in the old app. I wish I could revert to the old app, because this router is useless to me now.
