The pricing structure and immense flexibility of the Envoy There app is gone compared to this Envoy Mobility version. This review is heavily bias to a customer point of view and one that was forced to upgrade to the more expensive, less flexible Envoy Mobility.
I might be an extremely special case since I experienced so many different problems and am a veryyyy heavy user of Envoy.
Cons
- The immense flexibility coming from Envoy There vs this app (Mobility) is gone. You are charged in 30 minute blocks instead of 15, they no longer charge by the minute, and you are on the hook for “bad” AND/OR “conservative” planning; you don’t get money back for unused time, or for being safe and extending a booking out because of a variety of circumstances. They charge for the entire block of time, used or not. Compared to Envoy There, the BEST aspect of Envoy There was the money back for unused time. That’s gone (Again, I understand there are some Envoy Mobility purists who don’t know what Envoy There.)
- The app now forces you to purchase time credits into a wallet instead of charging and refunding your card for each transaction. This is a pro for Envoy, because there are issues with changing/extending/cancelling that when dealing with credit cards I imagine is a hassle. For a customer? It’s akin to buying a gift card in order to purchase something in the store. I imagine if we ask for that wallet to be refunded back, we could, but that’s an extra step for the customer. This idea of us having to sink money that’s not freed up for whatever we want is extremely annoying. Compounded by the fact we have specific tiered values we must select from. So there’s always going to be left over money in there, since they no longer charge by the minute.
- This app makes you more stressed intrinsically because you have to be “extremely” efficient and laser focused with your time. I hate that feeling so much. That was the whole reason I even used Envoy in the first place. Those who overplan and actually plan ahead are hurt by this because you feel nickle and dimed now. Sure, the time and pricing method solves a lot of problems on the business side, but from a purely avid user, it’s significantly worse.
- The car provided was a forced upgrade to the one we used previously. Which means higher price. For those who only do short trips, this is worst off for you comparatively.
Pros
- Can’t deny it. Envoy has one of the most amazing customer service teams. They’re not as fast as I’d like when actual emergencies come up (someone didn’t return car. They had an unscheduled/incorrect maintenance done and allowed us to book) but when they are on and help, they take it the whole way to get it resolved which I’ll always appreciate. They go sooooooo above and beyond, in a majority of situations better than Amazon.
- “Comparatively” this is still “better” than single / short Uber/Lyft trips. A large emphasis on “short”.
- Those who want to do longer trips, the new car has double the distance. At least our apt does. Again, comparatively to Envoy There.
There’s just so much more I can write and can explain the nuances between the customer and business side of it. You can gather a lot of “in between” problems and solutions taken in the two paragraphs of feedback above. All in all, it’s a business. But from a avid user of Envoy, I am extremely disappointed in ever recommending Envoy long term. It officially for us and a few of us in the building are discouraged from using it as often as we did (maybe that’s the point? Fair.) Especially for our building , money is truly not a problem. It’s the progression of how we got here and the issues all culminating to this exact moment, that are such a disappointment.
