  • Missing kun-yomi readings

The app is easy to navigate. But important readings are missing from the Kanji study cards. For example:魚さかな、重おも If you already have knowledge of kanji, you can catch these omissions, but if you start out studying kanji you might miss the most common readings and studying the vocab will become confusing. If the system would allow you to make a note or add the missing reading to your deck, you could work around this flaw. But it doesn’t. So you have to trust the developer to be accurate.…

Thanks. Some readings are not displaying but this will be adressed soon. Notes taking will be added as well!
  • Great app, but could use some QoL features

The “Remove Flashcards” section under manage flash cards needs work. Why doesnt this section show me which kanji/vocabulary I have active already that I want to remove? I have no idea what I want/need to remove if I can’t see what I already have in my list to study. This section is confusing. It’s incredibly useful, but it needs to be adjusted to show what you currently have active in your study repertoire.

Thanks for your comment i will work on this. Use app.development.rp@gmail.com to contact me. Frequency indicates how much entries are used and therefore you should prioritize high frequency vocabulary/kanji if you want to be operational in Japanese as soon as possible. I appreciate your rating and will be waiting for your feedback by email!
  • An outstanding app

Benkyo is a great app for practicing kanji, vocab, and kana. In almost 2 weeks, I have memorized 70 kanji and ~60 vocab. I would recommend this app to anyone trying to learn japanese, it does its job very well. The interface is easy to navigate and there are countless options for quizzes that you can make for yourself. The FlexSRS feature is great too. The flashcard memorization method is very effective. I love this app and will use it for a long time. Truly astonishing.

  • Good for Vocab, wish it would expand more…

This is good for the basics of Kanas and Kanji as well as a ton of vocab. However I would like it if you could toggle more features on or off. Such as turn off (or on) Kanji while you’re just starting out with vocab on quizzes, turn on or off writing in quizzes, or make the text larger (or again, allow the ability to turn off Kanji or Kana) in the Vocab section when your just looking at Vocab cards.
Lastly, I would like to see the app do a better job if differentiating between words that have the same, or nearly the same, meanings and are very similar and confusing when starting out. Maybe a side-by-side feature too to understand similarities and differences.

Overall, it’s good for quizzing singular Vocab and Kana/Kanji, but is limited in what it does. I do not believe the cost is worth it in its current form and would like to see the app’s features and abilities expanded to warrant the cost.

  • Much potential but still some issues

Quizzing, tracking progress, and various metrics are wonderful.

But a needlessly complicated UI and method for adding items to and removing from a quiz. When specifying which items to remove from a quiz, the s/w should at least show which levels are currently enabled. And where is the “clear all” control?

Is there any way to set the app to use one of the other voices available through iOS? The current Japanese voice for Benkyō is nearly unintelligible for some sounds. Why not use the system setting and allow the user to choose?

Thanks for the feedback! I’m working on smoothing up the UX/UX while keeping the customization so you can expect improvements on this. I appreciate you using the app and letting me know your opinion. Good luck in your learning journey! Edit: noted you feature request for changing the system voice. Will do along with speed.
  • Reall Love It, but...

It's missing a sync feature between devices. I love using this app on my phone and made significant progress and built lists. Then I got a new phone and the only way to transfer my data is from an iCloud backup. I've toiled on my iPad and Macbook on how to get the data from my phone on to those devices, but just can't. And after waiting for a year , I've mostly switched to other apps now. Bummer becuase I really love this app.

  • The best resource for studying Japanese!

This is by far the best app I have used, it has tons of content. It is very flexible and allows you to study exactly the way you want to! You can use it for free or pay to get extra options, I use it everyday along with my Japanese language school, and it helps a lot!
  • It shows great promise!! But

I love that I can practice handwriting, pronounctions, quiz myself and see what I need more work. It a would been my go to study app if after a handwriting the button would work. I also wish that It so group together and it was step you knows. First kanji than Hana then so forth
  • Great app, but could use some QoL features

How do I remove the “drawing” portions from my flash cards? I assumed it was “writing” but they still pop up. I don’t like these types of flash cards because drawing with my finger doesn’t reinforce. I skip all of them. Some of the stuff labeled in the app doesn’t feel intuitive.

Well, it’s not “understanding” either. Can you tell me how to remove please? And please make it easier to contact the developer. Twitter is a dying social media app.

  • Great for study and practice

App is great. Just wish there was an option to select both basic katakana AND basic hiragana instead of picking one group then having to individually select each kana from the other.
