Has everything you could ever need on your journey to Nihingo fluency! It is a bit complicated to set up and remove questions from quizzes but the amount of vocabulary and kanji it has trumps the user difficulty by all means. 11/10 !
  • Overall Excellent

About three months ago I started to learn Japanese, and quickly gravitated to this App. Overall, it is an amazing App, with flashcards for most of the vocabulary and kanji I need to learn. So far it has been a critical part of my learning

The main place I’ve run into difficulty is in effectively managing my flash card lists. I am concurrently learning from a few sources, and each has their own vocabulary lists that I need to learn. The list management is rough, and bulk adding of entries (outside of kana) is difficult. Ideally, I’d be able to organize lists (initially just by order, but eventually in groups/folders).

One big wishlist feature would be to add my own vocabulary entries. I have Vocab from sources such as Genki 3rd Ed that are not present in this App, and there is no way to add them. Admittedly, with all the meta data for entries in the database, making a way to add your own vocabulary could be tricky. I wouldn’t expect this anytime soon.

Outside of this, I’ve only had a few minor issues .

My conclusion: Despite a few festures that could be improved, this App is still the best overall Japanese flash card App I’ve found, and highly recommend it to any learner!

  • 10/10 best kanji app

i tried other japanese apps and they were going by too quickly, or i didn’t know how to make a list of the specified kanji that i want to focus on. this app lets me have a pace on learning a few kanji at a time and now i am confident in learning kanji. i love this app, it’s easy to learn the things you want to learn, and overall this app is the best japanese app i’ve found and i would definitely recommend if you want to learn a few words at a time and not learn 50 words at a time

  • ❤️

Amazing app, almost things are not hidden behind paywalls like most language apps and that’s so appreciated.. it’s obvious the app developers genuinely want to teach Japanese and I’m confident that with this app, Sensei, my speaking writing and understanding skills are improving each day. THANK YOU GUYS 💟

  • Great app ;one bug

This is the best way to learn Japanese but if you have bought the pro version (and activated JLPT 0 kanji pack) you probably know that when you try to search up something on the library tab it kicks you out. Please fix this but otherwise, Great app😁😁!
  • Great Flashcard App!

The interface is slightly confusing at first but once you figure it out, this app is an amazing tool that even has a widget so you remember to check in and study. Anything relating to Japanese text is covered in this, though I use it specifically for kanji. I would give this app a 5 star review, but there are a couple essential features I feel it is lacking: - the ability to add your own text to the flashcards for mnemonic or memory purposes - data sync between devices under the same account

  • Great Japanese flashcard app

This is the most helpful Japanese flashcard app I’ve found. It allows creating multiple custom lists, so you can focus on particular new vocabulary as you learn, then keep a second list of everything you’ve learned to date to allow you to stay on top of everything. The algorithm will quiz more frequently on mistakes and less on items that have been correct consistently, but will still ask about everything to some degree to ensure older vocabulary isn’t forgotten. While the app includes kun-yomi and on-yomi readings for kanji, it would be extremely helpful if these were treated and tested separately. For example, have the quiz ask for a specific reading rather than allowing either in order to ensure users are learning both.

  • Great study method for kanji, could be better

I’m really enjoying the flash card and quiz format for writing kanji—it’s challenging, but I’m retaining information better. However, the pronunciations are terrible, and some even sound so robotic or choppy/scratchy. Most importantly, the readings/pronunciations study/quiz format could be loads better. Lots of kanji has both onyomi and kunyomi, but even if you only get one right using hiragana or katakana, it’s marked as correct. I think it would be much more accurate to include two typing options for kunyomi and onyomi, and then have us type them separately and accurately.

  • New update forces Pro on you constantly

It seems that with the most recent update you can now only review 25 flash cards every 15 minutes. Every time you reach this limit you will be prompted to pay up. I understand that the developers need money and this app is fairly decent but this update makes it almost unusable unless you upgrade to Pro. I won’t be upgrading however because of how intrusive and limiting this update has made the app for free users.

  • Helps with memorization and writing skills

I used the previous app, which focused on kana, but switched to this one to use it for kana, kanji, and vocab.

Flashcards are great, I like that it can switch it up from multiple choice, typing in the correct romaji, and writing the actual characters. Very nice to have that widespread focus so you feel like you really are learning and retaining the words and characters.

I haven’t gotten very far as of yet, but it has helped me review the kana I know and solidify them. I know a few kanji and already, this app is helpful in terms of not lugging around hundreds of physical cards to study. Vocab is coming too, as I get more kanji under my belt.

All around, convenient, fast and responsive, and very helpful with reminders and multiple ways of presenting the material. Highly rated.
