  • Great app. Metrics aren’t always right

Overall, I love the app and the idea behind it. Having used a whoop for a couple of years, my hope was that this would be a like for like replacement as I moved to the Apple Watch Ultra. However, I found that its sense of my recovery levels, and therefore recommendation for intensity of training is off quite often. I might have a terrible night sleep, and wake up, feeling totally wrecked, and it will tell me I’m highly recovered. I might have a good night sleep, strong, HRV, and it tells me I’m overtrained when I wasn’t intense the day before. It may know something, I don’t, of course, but I didn’t see this disconnect with my Whoop, so I’m skeptical. I think with more time, and more data, it will get better. I’m willing to give it a try. The app is nice, is very reasonable, so I’m hopeful for the future. For right now though, it’s hard to give more than three stars given this issue.

  • Definitely recommend!

Enhances the capability of your favour Apple products to provide data regarding everything health and fitness. Unlike other products, subscription is a once off fee as opposed to an ongoing subscription.
  • Recovery is off

I’d like to say this app works, but it’s been my experience that it’s rather out of date. It says to use the mindfulness app to set your recovery for the day. But the mindfulness app doesn’t exist anymore. I tried to use the calm app so it can read my waking HRV but no luck. Instead it grabs random samples and claims I’m completely over trained when I feel absolutely fine to train more. If the developers wanted to have the HRV measured by an app like Breathe or Mindfulness or whatever they require, the Athlytic app should be able to have that feature itself and not rely on apps that don’t exist anymore.

  • Good stats, sometimes a little slow to update

The stats are spot on, and it’s really helping me decide when to push it in training and when to back off. Well presented screens, and useful Watch widget.
There are some niggles. I know that Apple Watch limits the amount of times the app can update, but it seems slow to update some stats. This morning for example it was 45 minutes before it had my sleep time in there.
Also, I initially had a problem with the Watch saying I needed a subscription to see some values. Various restarts and reloads had no effect, but then after 3-4 days it just started working.
The developer is extremely responsive, which is always reassuring.

  • Best training and recovery app

I coach and train strength and endurance athletes, and have used various software and hardware options for tracking training and recovery. This is the best iOS app for the Apple Watch, and also rivals or exceeds other commercial hardware and software products. It has a great user interface, clear and thorough interpretations and trends, all with the industry leading Apple Watch sensors for best accuracy on wearable sleep, and heart rate tracking data.

  • Great information for athletes

I’m on my mountain bike 5-7 days per week and use my Apple Watch in conjunction with my Garmin 130 to track literally everything, 24/7. At a quick glance, Athlytic gives me a ton of great data to actually read, rather than solely going based off how I feel. It gives you a lot of the data you get from something like a Garmin Fenix, which you’d otherwise be missing with the Apple Watch. The Revcovery% is shockingly accurate for me - I’ve had days where I’ve felt tired, even though my Recovery% is high, and when I head out on the bike later in the day, my power data indeed backs up the Recovery score. On top of all that, the developer, Gary, is also super responsive and helpful.

  • Fantastic App!

I very rarely leave reviews for apps but this app is amazing. It puts most of your health data in ONE spot to review and gives suggestions about how to improve your health, sleep, readiness, and training. It’s called “Athlytic” but I would propose one doesn’t have to be an athlete to benefit from all the insights this app provides. To be honest, I used Welltory for several months before a random Redditor asked if that app or this one was better. I loved that Welltory also put so much health data in one place and almost paid a high subscription fee for it (on sale it was like, $60/year). However the Welltory’s UI was just terrible - extremely busy and difficult to read and find the information you wanted. It also gave a bunch of extraneous “tips” without the option to toggle them off.

Athlytic gives you just the right amount of information in a beautiful and VERY easy to understand format. I love love love this app. Highly recommend. I’m fact, I subscribed before the trial period was even over 😆.

Also, I’ve had a few questions here and there and the customer support has been prompt and helpful. Great app, highly recommend spending time and money on this app!

  • Exactly what I was looking for

App does a great job as advertised.. love it so far.. A couple of minor issues which I’ve reached out to the developer for (who has been very responsive.. thanks ). One of which is a bit of a annoyance is that the Apple Watch sync of app data seems to be bit glitchy… the specific data that is exposed via complication seems to update while other data remain unchanged for prolonged period of time. Would love to see a roadmap of features and bug fixes coming up for the app. Cheers

  • I like it overall but…

I found the how hard to push yourself information inconsistent. The bit that threw me and made me describe not to subscribe was this unclear inconsistency with the recommendation on how to train.
One day it told me I was well rested and to push myself. I was hoping to do that but it just so happened I had a long day stuck at the desk working. Quite a lazy day in the end from an effort point of view.
The next day, it told me to take it easy as if I’d had a tough workout the previous day.
Considering there isn’t much explanation around why it’s telling me this I found this to be inconsistent. I was expecting it to tell me to push myself as I’d now had two days of rest from exercise (due to work). But it was telling me the opposite.

Currently I’m giving Gentler Streak a try. It’s less detail oriented (which I miss but I can get from the Apple Health app) but it shows a fitness time line and gives informative suggestions on how hard to train to keep the fitness momentum up. From a push myself training point of view, Gentler is clearer. Being clear is the whole point of these apps. To bring some clarity to the wealth of data from Apple Health.

Overall, Athlytic is actually a really good app. I will definitely give it a revisit in the future. Just not right now as I think the effort page needs a bit more informative information to make it that but more consistent (at least from a being able to understand what changed point of view).

  • If you’re in to fitness and recovery you’ve got to get this app

Whoop user for years and debatable whether it’s worth the monthly cost. This totally is and I keep it on monthly so the developer gets more money from me because it’s awesome! I used by Athlytic and Whoop for a couple of months side by side and Athlytic gave me pretty much the same readings. The Apple Watch has been shown to be bette at HR and sleep tracking. Whoop may give you some extra info but it’s all pointless. Athlytic sticks the elements you need in a simple UI. I used to recommend Whoop to my clients but I now tell them to buy an Apple Watch and sign up to Athlytic instead.
