Reviews of Oticon Companion

  • I'm Back Oticon...And Happy!

My first experience with hearing aids was with Oticon, and having never worn behind-the-ear devices before, I found them to be exceptionally clear and effective. Unfortunately, I lost them during yard work, which was an expensive lesson.

When it came time to replace them, I was persuaded by a persuasive salesperson to purchase Starkey hearing aids. However, I was dissatisfied with their performance, especially when the rechargeable batteries started failing after a few years. Determined to improve my hearing experience, I decided to return to Oticon.

I acquired a new pair of Oticon in-the-ear, full-shell hearing aids in January, and the difference was remarkable. The sound quality is superb, and the custom molds provide an excellent fit. Reflecting on the positive change, I wonder why I didn’t make the switch back sooner.

Despite my great experience, I am surprised by the numerous negative reviews I’ve seen in the Apple Store. Perhaps I’ve been fortunate, but I haven’t encountered the issues others have reported. The only feature I miss is the ability for the hearing aids’ microphones to work during phone calls, rather than having to use my phone’s microphone. I hope this might be addressed in a future firmware update.

  • Poor app

The old Oticon On app was pretty much trouble free. This new app is terrible. I have to uninstall/install it almost daily to correct glitches. With the money this company must be making, there is no excuse for this. I’m older, 66, but pretty tech savvy due to my profession. I feel bad for older folks who may be overwhelmed be the issues with this app. Who tests these things?

Above is my old review. Things are no better. I see the disgust with these outrageously expensive devices and the worthless app in pretty much universal. I can only assume Oticon doesn’t have any respect for their customers, only their wallets. I tell everyone who will listen how bad this is. I write this as I am doing my every other day uninstall/reinstall job. They should be paying us to put up with this.

    Developer Response

Dear Victorehusky, we are doing everything we can to make the Oticon Companion app reconnect faster and stay connected in the background for longer, we are hoping to be able to implement improvements in upcoming app updates. You can also tap three times on the power button on the side of your iPhone (or press the 'Home' button at the bottom of your iPhone if your iPhone model has this) to enter a quick hearing aids settings menu that allows you to make volume adjustments and change programs. This can also be done from your phones lock screen. Best Regards, Oticon
  • Difficult connection

I had a lot of difficulty connecting with my new IPhone 15. Finally sent a message and received an answer fairly quickly; it was a Sunday afternoon and I really didn’t expect to get an answer as quickly as I did. The person on the other end was very polite and sent me a link to a page that gave me so much more information about the Oticon than I realized was available!! Wish I had that link a long time ago!! Suggest they provide the entire page of information on the app itself!
But thanks for getting me back to hearing better!

    Developer Response

Dear user, we appreciate the feedback and the suggestions. We are glad to hear that our Global App Support team provided the support you needed to solve your issue. Kind Regards, Oticon
