Horrible

Full of scams, inflated prices, scalpers and more. When you report anybody nothing happens. They blame it on their “automated system” which apparently doesn’t know several violations of what IP infringement is. There is literally illegal things happening on this website that I have witnessed and fell victim to multiple times. No, nothing is done about the actual crimes committed, the forgery imitated, the stolen patins, or the basic (yet very molested) rights of actual businesses. The seller you buy from can see your card number unless you use some alternative payment like PayPal, only you might not be able to buy anything without getting your information stolen because sellers can require card only payments. I have reported someone who has actually admitted to their crimes over EBay’s own text/communication with the seller and the “automated system” has said it doesn’t see anything wrong with the seller. How is an automated system supposed to authenticate the legitimacy of a product? It can’t. It can’t authentic every type of product being sold so it seems like it just lets sellers stay up because it makes them money. This is app has been the trouble of so much pain, money, and especially time being wasted. I do not recommend this app. Take care of yourself and treat yourself to something you deserve, not some cash-grabbing scalper on the internet who will take your info and give you fake products.

Enough with the "authenticity guarantee"

Thanks to all the scam reports of this so called service, I have had to reduce prices on several of my items just so they don't have to go through the authenticity guarantee. I have been selling on ebay since the beginning and have 100% positive feedback. But I do NOT trust having an item of mine shipped to people I do not know, fake items being sent to my customers (or not being sent at all) and if they do send them, having your packaging brand MY item when I use my own branding. The reviews I have read regarding this service have been horrible with customers either not receiving what was ordered or legit sellers getting shafted with poor service from these authenticators. Have also seen reports where items "disappear" after being sent to ebay or different items being passee along to the customer after being stolen from tje authenticators. I am taking a hit on pricing, lowering the orice so they don't fall into the the over $500 AG group because I don't want my jewelry to fall into the wrong hands and this is extremey unfair to sellers who take pride in their work. Like many other sellers, I trust no one else with my items. I also don't trust the timing of the items getting to my customers, especially around the holidays! While I understand the thought process of trying this, it hasn't gone well. This service has been flagged as a scam by MANY and I think it is time to rethink this altogether.

The worst and most greedy

eBay floods users with irrelevant notifications so you just ignore them or turn them off completely. then you don’t get the notification about an auction you actually care about. The problem is now the app asks you to turn on vacations every time you switch to it. They charges excessive fees, and offers little protection from scammers. Its outdated app and website design make the experience even worse. Instead of improving, they overcharge customers who feel stuck with no better option. Just goes to show that you don’t need to provide a better, customer experience, service, or even not annoy your customers with nonsensical notifications. You just have to control the market so that no one else can compete with you. I sure hope the upper management at eBay doesn’t read my review. They might harass an attack me like they did that one married couple. I’m not sure if you’re aware but back and 2020 a bunch of the upper management at eBay started harassing a a cute little married couple. So much so that some of eBay management went to jail for. people that you would think would be so high up in the company they couldn’t possibly care what one man wrote as a review. But you’d be wrong they really cared. They cared so much. They made it their lives, passion, and work attempting to ruin that married couples lives. eBay should’ve been canceled along time ago for numerous reasons.

No Seller Protection & Unethical Policies

As a seller you are at high risk of getting scammed by buyers that want free items or forced unethical returns that come out of the sellers pocket for shipping. Buyers can lie on their return reason to force a favorable outcome for themselves within the automated return request system; they’ll expose themselves in their own messages and still get backed up by eBay. eBay will take dishonest buyers sides and refund them plus allow them to keep items. I had a manager admit to me that he could see a buyer had lied in a return case against me, but they sided with the buyer anyways because “it’s how the policy works.” eBay said my only protection was if I had a broken return item come in and wanted to fight for said rights in a complaint. Yeah, right. They also allow feedback extortion despite claiming otherwise. Then they won’t remove the feedback used as extortion on your account by buyers. And customer service will either flat out lie that they are taking care of an issue OR claim to have no power whatsoever to intervene in a dispute/speed up an appeal to an issue that needs immediate attention. They make you wait out their system which always finds a way to make the wrong decision and force you to swallow unfair rulings against your business. It’s unethical business practice. And you can’t find a U.S customer service rep to speak to for some help. It’s all out of the country “help” and out of touch.

Cant save search filter preferences on iPhone

iPhone eBay app does not respect saved filtering preferences like “Distance: furthest first”, “price+shipping highest first” etc, even when logged in, also does not have a logout button anywhere

Sellers cancelling finished auctions without repercussion.

If a seller doesn’t get the amount of money they want from an auction they can just cancel the item by marking it as “lost or damaged” and there are no repercussions for it. Seen a handful of accounts do this and just had it happen to myself. One account with over 10 instances of this happening based on negative feedback but still posting stuff at auction.

Somehow I owe eBay $ they’re taking from my account when I list for “free”

I’ve been selling on eBay for about three months now in the beginning I was really excited because I love Thrifting and finding chosen treasures and helping other people find their treasures as a result! Being out of work, a big part of the motivation for me was also that I need some income. in the beginning, there was a learning curve as far as what I sell the item for versus what I get in my bank account and win. It claims that it’s a 13 to 15% fee depending on the items and I was charging the customer shipping and I only ever listed the items in a way that according to eBay, it was meant to be free. Over the course of the last month however, eBay has multiple times claimed that I am indebted to them somehow and taken money out of my bank account including overnight last night to the tune of three different debit transactions. I genuinely don’t understand why and they’re most certainly not paying me as much as they claim to have according to my sales year to date versus my bank account and I’m so defeated and frustrated by the whole system the second I find employment again I don’t know that I’ll buy or sell on eBay when interacting with others and they’ve asked me what I think of it I’ve been perfectly honest with them and told them that I eBay is robbing me. Unless you’re selling items daily, it most certainly is not amount of income that is in anyway sustainable.

listing templates on mobile?

I’ve been buying and selling on eBay a long time and love it, there’s one feature I wish they had for sellers though that I’m surprised they don’t - currently you can’t use a listing template for a new item on mobile, only desktop. I use templates for nearly everything to save a ton of time because my items are in the same category, same weight, same condition, and the base description is there. Currently I have to create a new listing from the template on desktop, save it as a draft, and then open the draft on my phone to upload the photos from my phone and finish the listing. I will say, switching between desktop and mobile when making a listing is pretty seamless, but if I could just list from a template on my phone I wouldn’t have to. Fingers crossed they implement this one day. Also as a buyer I hope for better keyword filtering options for saved searches, I get a lot of stuff I don’t want in my feed because of limited options..my searches end up being long strings of negative keywording that hits the character limit.

Small personal nitpicks though on a stellar app that I love and use daily…I enjoy most of the new features and updates..especially the new saved search layout option that populates new listing photos from all your saved searches on multiple scrollable rows, it makes quickly browsing new listings so much faster. Keep up the great work eBay!

Getting signed out every time I leave the app, or my phone closes while on the app

I’m an eBay seller, and customer and I’m constantly using the app for purchases, and in all the ways I need to operate my store. I’m in and out of the app countless of times a day, however for the passed 8+ months I’ve been getting signed out CONSTANTLY. it doesn’t matter if I leave the app for 10 seconds to reply to a text, use my calculator, or google something, or even if I look away from my phone for 30 seconds and my phone locks I still get signed out. The problem doesn’t happen on my computer browser, and I’ve spent countless of hours on the phone with customers service but they claim I’m the only person that has made this claim. The only solution they’ve provided that even slightly worked has been deleting the app and reinstalling, but even IF that works it never works for more than a couple hours. I’m not sure what else I can do to try and solve this, but it’s pretty ridiculous that I fork over over 25% to EBay in fees from every sale I make (not including the other % that comes out of every sale because I have to promote every listing to get any real amount of views) yet it’s been 8+ months of being signed out COUNTLESS amounts of times a day, and spending COUNTLESS hours talking to customer service about the same thing over and over and over to still be dealing with this. Please get this fixed. Im not sure what else im supposed to do or say about this.

Slowly getting worse for sellers!

Lets see… brands are disappearing from the item specifics when listing, sellers have to add the brand as a custom which affects viability because eBay’s algorithm buries the listing because it’s not a preselection. EBay tries to trick sellers to list items for much less to force a quick sale by supplying false median sales price stats on similar items. The item specifics in the sporting goods category is pathetic, with only 1-2 item specifics, so a custom has to be added, but we know that eBay’s algorithm hides anything outside their preselections. There’s no consistency between the mobile version and desktop; for example if you edit a listing and want to add more info to the item description via the mobile app it removes any formatting and also deletes the condition description affecting visibility once published since they encourage and reward listings with more information with more visibility. Then there’s the usual always siding with terrible scamming buyers and punishing sellers. As eBay gets greedier they offer less for sellers.
