If only I had known it existed

This just amazes me. I only discovered (and bought) it a few days ago, so my experience with i41CX+ is limited, but so far it has worked precisely as described. Documentation MUCH better than usual with iPhone apps. I have a 41CV that has been in continual use since 1981, and I have a CX in case the CV dies. The CX remains (almost) unused. As an engineer, I am, so far, extremely impressed. If I were to attempt to recreate this, I doubt I could do it in less than 2 years. I look forward to exploring it further. Thank you. Finally, a stinking decent calculator for the iPhone! -ML

Even better than the real thing!

Wow. Suffice to say I am extremely discerning when it comes to app purchases - this is the ONLY app I have ever succumbed to buying. I loved my old HP-41C. I still do, in fact - I resurrected it a couple weeks ago and it still works like it did 30 years ago. Then I came across this emulator app. Emulator and MORE, I should say. Picture an HP-41 (some would still claim it to be the best, bar none, calculator ever sold), throw in the additional memory and the time extensions. Then add all the popular ROMs ever produced (Math, Financial, PPC, games). And the dedicated printer. And then throw in LaTeX and Gnuplot, plus a few extra "skins". What else? Oh, allow access to the GPS and accelerometer features of your iPod/iPhone/iPad. Allow access to the extra RAM for file storage (picture that on a 30G iPod!). This truly, truly is the "ultimate app" for HP lovers. Install it on an iPod or iPhone and it's always with you at a fraction of the bulk of the original - and your programs execute 40x faster, too! I cannot praise this app and its developer(s) highly enough. Would still be good value at 5x the price.

Exceptional

A spectacular number of features packed into an elegant and very well thought out app. Definitely worth every penny.

Relevant for today

Long before the iPhone had "an app for that", and long before you could amortize a loan in a spreadsheet, people were writing an immense and vast array of applications for a calculator. A calculator so powerful that it is used on the Space Shuttle and people are still raving about it 30 years later.

However, if you are in any sort of Math or Science related field, as a student or professional, you should buy this application. It has taken an extremely powerful calculator and given it Super Powers.

RPN will take a few moments to learn but this calculator is relevant for today and for the next generation of brilliant people. This little calculator wields an unfair advantage to all who use it for solving simple and complex "math" problems, and stores that power and ability in a device you can carry everywhere with you.

I am anxious for people to stop waxing nostalgic and begin writing and sharing applications that take advantage of new features. It will make for a calculator that we all will be raving about another 30 years from now.

Awesome calculator, CAS functionality is great except for a few things.

Great calculator, superb emulation of the original. What I really wanted the CAS and plotting functionality, since the other things I saw on the app store were kind of lacking. The CAS engine is great, and the interface has come a long way, but it can be very difficult to use and get kind of buggy sometimes. Plots are sometimes weird, either plotting over the top of old plots or having very strange automatic bounds (try plotting tan(x)). It's definitely being worked on, though, so I'm happy.

Email problem!

Emailing program listings doesn't work on my iPhone. Has anyone else got this problem. I get a message that the target address is not valid. However, this is still THE BEST APP EVER IN ANY CATEGORY!! and it keeps getting better.

Super!

In the app's settings, Key Click Sound Type, please enable the sound when a Sound Type is selected so one can hear what the selection sounds like. Thanks!

i41CX+

I am a long time HP user and semi collector. I still have my 41CX from 1985 and it is still going strong. It is a tribute to the original design that this sort of emulator even exists and people still want to use the 41.
What I particularly like about this app is it's fidelity to the original hardware if a little smaller in size plus you get for free the added functionality of the plug in ROM modules which in their day would have cost hundreds more. One of the previous reviewers found the operation to be un-iPhone like and unintuative. My opinion is so what? The 41 was always a serious piece of hardware and not without it's own quirks. Users needed to read and understand the operation of the 41 before any serious work could be accomplished. In modern parlance RTFM!
Take the time to read the FAQ and original HP manuals to get the most from this exellent 41 implimentation.
The only suggestions I have for improving this app is to offer a landscape form factor ala HP 15 to compensate for the reduced size of the keyboard and to increase the hot zone for swiping the rear view to access options etc. Oh and give me that lovely tactile feedback from the keyboard from the original :) maybe a quick burst of the vibrating ring.
$Aus 18 well spent

Very Good Application

Excellent app! Works just like my old HP41-CV - Except much faster & without the hard to find batteries! Small keys mean I miss key a fair bit.
Now of I could just locate the old manual....which I did about 2 months later.

Battery Life

I enjoy this calculator as it is similar in feel to my original HP 41CV that died. Here are the negatives that I'm sure can be fixed with future releases. I agree that the start up is a little slow in this "now" world. What I've been finding lately however, is if you leave the calculator on the screen when you turn the iPhone off, it drains the battery. I've tried this a couple of times including last night. I was working on the calculator yesterday, left it in my vehicle and the battery was dead the next morning.
