  • Near perfect

From what other reviewers are saying it sounds like unrealistic expectations, user error or bad audio files (that’s to be expected if you steal music online). I uploaded all my lossless ripped albums and iTunes purchases to my Synology and this app works perfectly. No problems with gaps, no album name issues, no problems at all so far. I do have one complaint and that is the lack of a EQ, but it’s not a deal breaker by any means.

  • Could be better.

I have been using this a lot more since Pandora is so ad crazy. Lately, it loses its place if stopped for more than a couple of minutes. And it doesn’t do a very good job of grouping songs into albums. Sometimes all but a couple are in one album and one or two are in another album with same photo and names. Shuffle and default favorites stop playing and I have to advance the song a few seconds to start it again.

  • Needs an easy library sync function

This App could easily be a great App and serious replacement for iTunes. Unfortunately, one big feature has been left out and that is an easy way to Sync your entire music library. I’ve had to resort to making a playlist with all my music and playing continuously trying to keep the App in the foreground as there is no background refresh.

  • 5.14.2 update seems to break remote volume control

Since the update on my iPhone SE the volume control using the phones physical buttons has become unusable. Turning the volume down slightly sends it alarmingly quickly the other way, also the volume can shift position up and down several times after clicking the buttons. Never come across this issue in the 5 years I've been using the software

  • Memory Hog

When streaming a song, it downloads the file to the app. In the case of large hi Rez files this can consume gbs of storage on your device.
  • Use it every day

If Synology invested time and resources to develop DS Audio, their NAS would be a must-have for music lovers. I’ve been using the app every day and it already is extremely usable. Well, until few days ago. Now the app doesn’t allow changing the “player” setting and actually freezes when opening that setting, at least on iPad - this makes it unusable to me.

I use the app as a control point for my home hifi when at home, and to listen via headphones when out. Without being able to switch the player setting from USB Speakers to headphones and vice versatility, the app is useless for me. Everything used to work for many years until now.

DS Audio has so much promise.

  • new bugs - not usable on iPad

    Ver 5.14.0
After the new iOS 11.2.5 update. Music stops playing after a minute or two, as it logs you out of the app. You then need to log back in. After that the cycle continues.
This happens on the iPad Pro 12.9” when the app is running in the background.
  • Love synology, kinda love this app

Great to have a free app for my synoAudio. Thanks for that. I use this app quite a bit. Almost daily. Problem for me is takes too long to log in, sometimes I tell it to repeat a song but it skips to next. Also, I get the whole color theme thing for the other synoApps but the color choice for this one is not so great from a design perspective.

Other than that, it a must have for synology and will keep on using either way.

  • Deletes Downloaded Songs

Spent time downloading songs from the NAS to the iPad to play offline. Have loads of memory free on the iPad, but yet every time that the App updates versions, the downloaded tracks get wiped, completely, all of them. How frustrating. Please could this be fixed?
  • This COULD be Awesome if a Little Effort Was Put In...

I bought my Synology NAS on the promise of having all my music accessible from an app that gave, via thumbnail mode, the feel of a jukebox. When it works it’s great, but there are several flaws that can render the player unusable. The worst offender is the artwork caching in thumbnail mode, when fully cached DS Audio looks superb, with smoothly flowing artwork, but if you switch networks ie, take the iPad to work / hotel etc the app promptly wipes all the artwork leaving plain green tiles for every artist. You then have to go through the trouble of scrolling, page by page slowly through all the collection until the app re-downloads all the artwork. I have around 30,000 songs in my music collection, so it’s an hour or two of a job to sort this, only to go home and have to do it all again. Plus sometimes connectivity just doesn’t happen, ‘not accessible’ type errors come up even when playing on the same lan as the server. PLEASE Synology; add a way or permanently caching artwork, perhaps with a method of syncing changes or a refresh button, I have submitted requests with no response and app updates are few and far between. If you could fix these issues you’d never have to update it again and I could spend quality time listening to music rather than trying to fix the app.
