They will scam you off your money even though it says that it’s a free membership, I didn’t even complete the application!
I am incredibly disappointed with my recent experience using Zipcar. After being a loyal customer for a while, I encountered a situation that left me feeling completely scammed and frustrated. I rented a car through Zipcar, followed all the rules, and returned it on time in perfect condition. However, when I checked my account, I noticed an unexpected charge for services I never used or authorized!
When I reached out to customer service to resolve the issue, I was met with nothing but unhelpful responses and a lack of accountability. The support team seemed uninterested in addressing my concerns and continuously passed me around from one representative to another without offering a solution. Not only did I not get my money back, but they also kept adding additional charges, citing vague and unclear reasons that made no sense.
Zipcar’s business model seems to rely on these hidden fees, and they have no intention of supporting their customers when issues arise. The lack of transparency and the refusal to take responsibility for overcharging makes me believe this is a scam disguised as a car-sharing service.
I advise anyone considering using Zipcar to think twice. The initial convenience is not worth the hassle, stress, and money you might lose in the long run. Save yourself the frustration and look for more reputable alternatives.

Good app, but terrible customer service
The app is user friendly and functional, however Zipcar customer service was very impolite.

I applied for Zipcar based on their claim that applications would be approved within minutes. However, after not receiving any response for two hours, I called support. They promised to call back within several hours but never did. After waiting three days without any communication, I called them and asked to stop the review process and issue refund as I had already found another service and they slow processing time was not acceptable and they claimed false information on their website.
The customer service representative I spoke with was extremely rude and unhelpful. Instead of assisting me, they directed me to read the entire website. After yet one more day they rejected my Canadian G Full license and refused to refund the CAD $28.5 application fee.
I strongly advise against using Zipcar. Their misleading claims and poor customer service indicate deceptive practices. Stay away from them!

DO NOT USE - or risk being fined for something not your fault!
Outrageous behaviour! Zipcar are billing me £162 to recover a vehicle that had a fault I didn’t cause. I had the misfortune to hire a van, that shortly after I started driving, came up with a red error message on the dashboard saying “SOS, oil pressure fault. STOP!”, whilst beeping at me. I of course stopped as soon as was safe to do so, and called Zipcar support. Their agent told me to abandon the vehicle, as it was clearly unsafe to drive. I had to take another van, causing me an hour’s delay. Days later, instead of offering me compensation, I was presented with a bill for £162, as they told me there is nothing wrong with the van. When I again explained in detail what happened, they doubled down, effectively gaslighting me, and calling me a liar. I’m still waiting for a response as to how to appeal this. Absolutely shocking customer service. This could clearly happen to anyone who had the misfortune to hire a dodgy vehicle.

Horrible service
Horrible experience from the very beginning. Damaged car, dirty interior. But that was not enough. When I arrived to a destination, I could not lock the car because Zipcar servers went down. Waited 30+ mins on a call so that they tell me I have to stand beside car until they resolve the issue and they cannot assist me with anything and that it may take hours to resolve and may take more!! I was in awe, so they want me to guard their car for free, ruin may day and there is even no estimate on when they will be able to resolve the issue. I literally asked them “if you are not able to resolve the issue today am I supposed to guard their car until tomorrow?”, they said yes. Shocking!!

They charge you random money for service they never provide
The best representation of awful British service
If you’ve ever used car sharing the way it meant to be, e.g. in China or Russia, where you have 30k cars all over the city and you can take and drop them anywhere, and the polished app and service.
Them leave everything behind because zipcar presents you the very essence of the British service - you will be swearing at app, arguing with support, get cancelled trips for no reason, cars not being returned. And you can’t drop them where you want. and like 500 cars across the city and you can’t drive past zone 2. It’s the very worst service you can imagine. It’s a shame brits haven’t ever used anything client oriented, thus they pay overprice for this and rate it 5/5.
My rating is 2/5. Minus 1 start for every time they cancel my trips. And I’m writing it now after zipcar has just cancelled my trip for the 3rd time after somebody didn’t return the car on time
