US Marine appreciates my Discover card.

I don't normally write reviews however, this company is worth it to me. Retired disabled Military. We never get paid enough for what we do for you! Thusly always having to scrap around for credit especially with multiple moves and a family. Getting raked over the coals with Credit Card companies we rely on quite heavily to get along. And always some feeble excuse for denial or increase of credit, if you even get one.

I applied once and thankfully got a $5K card. I had been turned down so many times by Cap 1 it was just absurd. A year or so later Discover automatically increased my credit line to $9K. Later I did ask for an increase and increased my credit line to $14K. The next two increase were automatic to $30K.

Now this is the kind of company I will stand by. They did me right, gave me the flexibility to move forward. Thanks Discover you are AWESOME! So, guess who is not in "my wallet anymore"? YUP. From an US Marine!

Great app ruined

Unlike so many reviews here, this is an actual review of the app, not Discover’s bank cards… Been using the Discover app on iPhone and iPad for several years and been very satisfied with it. However, in January of this year (2024), the app started displaying only the last 3 weeks of transactions. Even when applying the handy date filters provided, it’s a no go. Not only that, but the drop-downs that allow you to select specific dates are utterly cryptic — they only display 2 columns heading with periodic headers of “S” and “M” followed by random numbers — what does even mean? This lack of date functionality makes it absolutely useless for tracking down any transaction that occurred more than 3 weeks ago. Want to see if a check you wrote a couple of months ago has cleared? Forget it — unless it cleared in the last 3 weeks, the app won’t display it. Set the date filter to show you the last 3 months of transactions? Nope, you only get 3 weeks’ worth. The website works, so I’ve been using that instead, but I really miss the app. I sent in a detailed explanation of the problem to customer service in January. Rec’d a thank you, and that’s it. App is still broken. I’ll update this comment if they ever fix it. In the meantime, forget this app if you have a need to see more than a 3-week timeline of what’s going on with your money. Very disappointed in both the app and the lack of attention or response from Discover’s developers.

No Access to my Card

I am studying abroad in Korea and made several large purchases with my credit card. I did not receive any notification stating to authorize any of my transactions in order to continue to use my card. My card just stopped working. I reached out to customer support several times. They said I can only call, I cannot do anything else to authorize my card. This was a month ago. For the past month, I have been calling different numbers on different phones. Please remember that I am studying abroad, so I have no access to my regular number. Every time I call on my international number, the call ends immediately. It doesn’t matter what the number is that I am calling. I try on my friend’s phone, and it’s the same issues. I tried on different SIMS so different numbers from my phone, and the same issue. Customer support isn’t supporting me, as their “support” is just repeat messages (You have to speak with security on the phone. You cannot authorize the card online.) I have not been able to use my card for over a month, and I do not return to my home country for another month and a half. I bank with Chase and Bank of America. I’m able to authorize any and all transactions through the mobile app or email. Why must Discover be so difficult?

Love Discover

As a customer of Discover Card for more than 30 years, I can honestly say that this bank has treated me better than any other bank. Financially, I’m in great shape now and I don’t need much help. But when times were tough, I was always able to call up Discover and they worked with me to get through the rough time. Once or twice a year I notice credit line increases, which tells me that someone is paying attention and silently saying “Thanks for being a customer. We like you and trust you. Here’s some more money, go have some fun.” It’s my lowest interest rate credit card, so I’m not really worried if I can’t pay it off in a particular month and need to pay a little interest on the next statement. They don’t crush me with ridiculous interest. The rewards are excellent. I save the reward money for the end of the year, and it literally pays for Christmas. And every now and then I’ll take a personal loan to cover a big expense, which is an effortless experience and is nicely managed in the app. Thank you Discover for being a great bank and helping me fund my life over the years. Keep up the great work.

Discover

Discover bank I love you as a bank don’t do this. You’re ruined me as a customer. Please do not let Capital One gobble you up and take you over and get rid of your company so you don’t exist anymore. That’s like saying like I don’t care anymore if you care about your customers stay a separate institution it makes sense to stay your own bank. You can do this Discover bank. You have the power to be the best bank and the leading bank separate and do not allow them to take you over at all, I don’t care what you need to do to stop them. Stop them from taking over your bank if they ever do shut them down and get rid of them and blocked the deal and say no we want to stay a separate institution we’re not gonna do this. This is not right for the customers. We want our customers to stay separate. It’s the right idea. Our customers are better and we That’s where we and why would you want your company be global up in all gone? if you do this, and that means you don’t care about your customers and and you don’t care about Discover Bank because it shows when when a company shows that they care that means they care about their company when they show that they don’t care about the company they just want someone to take it over if you care and you listen, don’t let them take you over 1000% but if you don’t care, I’m gonna be very disappointed in Discover bank

When You Discover

I will start by saying, I have had an ordeal finding good banking experiences, especially in the last decade of advance automation, where we talk to computers about as much as humans. However, Discover is the exception when it comes to customer satisfaction. It has the best I’ve seen in this decade of professional customer assistance from representatives by phone . As well, it has one of the best and most comprehensive phone automation systems one could ever hope for, in comparison to others I have experienced. There’s also a technical team that has prove to be on top of their game.

With Discover I am never made to feel like a number with their staff, but they usually show their compassion for my concerns, and work diligently toward addressing or resolving every issue I may have. When you “DISCOVER”…you can rejoice that all is not loss when it comes to quality customer service. I am so thankful there is at least one bank that’s keeping hope alive, and I wish all could follow there model of professionalism. Thank you Discover and keep up the good work!

Amazing Student Credit Card!

This is my first ever credit card so I’m totally a little biased in my review but it is genuinely a great option. I love the cash back rewards and definitely recommend it for students. I primarily use my card for gas, food, and school supplies only. I am not new to credit (car loans, student loans, etc) and already know how it works but I recommend this for first time users! The app and website are user friendly and easy to navigate. And for those without major bank accounts (like Wells Fargo, BoA, Chase) you can add your cash app account as a way to transfer funds to your discover card! There are lots of other cool features for you to use.

My only complaint is that it take a couple days for payments/transactions to post. And if you’re a stickler for paying off things early or seeing your current balance like me, it may grind your gears a bit.

Other than that I highly recommend it!

DO NOT OPEN DEBIT ACCOUNT

I recently opened up a debit account with this bank and it has been an absolute nightmare ever since. The agents clearly do not know what there a talking about because each agent will give you completely different answers and they WILL HOLD YOUR MONEY HOSTAGE. I made a transfer on 11/20 for $200 and I have to wait 14 BUSINESS DAYS to receive my money. And the explanation for why I have to wait so long literally doesn’t make any sense. 1 agent told me it was because of the federal reserve and I should get it before 12/5, 2nd agent told me it was a verification issue despite me having this reoccurring issue with the SAME bank, and a 3rd agent told me because they don’t accept transfers from my external banks( which was never told to me when creating the account despite me telling them what my external bank was) and that I will just have to wait….on top of it too NONE OF THE AGENTS are proactive, the fact that one agent told me “it is what is” over the fact that THEY messed up is ridiculous and highly rude. If I had owed this bank money they would have taken it out INSTANTLY, but now that the shoe is on the other foot I just have to wait patiently as they do nothing and offer me no help nor solutions.
