Unreliable
I have have booked several hostels through Hostelworld, and have generally had a fairly good experience. However, I recently booked a hostel non refundable, and paid the deposit through Hostelworld, after which the hostel send me a pdf looking email with a link which took me to a site where I was told to put in my credit card information. I obviously did not do this, after which my stay was cancelled, which is understandable. What I do not understand however, is that I was not given a refund for the hostel, as I was not the one who canceled the stay, but rather the hostel. Furthermore, I tried to contact customer service regarding this, and was stuck in the live chat for nearly two hours with a message saying that a representative will be with me soon. I did not get help. For this reason I do not recommend the app

Has bugs and they charge you for their mistakes
1 month ago or so, I did a search for a whole week, today I decided to re visit it and created a new order for 1 night, and when I got the email it said I had ordered a whole 1 week, so I sent a message through their contact centre with screenshots of what happened but all I received was an email saying I have to cancel, the room was 35 dollars for one night, But I have paid almost 60 dollars, with the previous booking where they’re caching the old data and not clearing it.

Very user friendly and straightforward :) Been using this for years!
False reviews and inflated prices
Reviews left with all of Hollywood stars names at least 7/8were actresses names all rating the property 10* please be sure to read through all the reviews I found that a lot of the lower review left earlier 2024 were pushed to the back instead of at the beginning were you would expect to find them (I guest that is so you won’t see them right and think that it’s all good until you arrive and the nightmare begins! I would suggest you look into your site and ensure that the reviews are not inflated like some of the prices

An honest review
The St. Christopher in Paris France is a dumb. The rooms are not maintained. Contact paper was used to cover the steal table, and was worn and torn. Someone had pealed back some of the contact paper only to have exposed other layers of contact paper from before. The floor are not real wood floors but are vinyl flooring that looks like wood and that too is also worn in places. The private bathroom door handle was broken and just hanging there. The staffs response when I told them about the bathroom door was, “That’s a private bathroom what are you doing in there?” Not we will have maintenance fix that right away. By the way I have photos and I showed them to the staff and they could care less! Also be very careful what you book because the hostel doesn’t describe the rooms as dormitory rooms. You don’t find that out until you book your room. This was by far the worst experience that I have ever had staying someplace!!! The free drink that you get when you check in is for either a pop/soda Pepsi products, or a glass of juice. Also the free drink special at 20:00/8:00P.M is some sort of sweet drink that they make up in large batches, and if you are a nonalcoholic drinker like myself, you are out of luck because they will not offer you a free soda, an 0.0 alcoholic beverage. This establishment gets a 1 star from me.

Staying with budget
Great hostel for access to eating area with kitchen.
No Way to see bookings!!
There is no tab to look at your bookings, see how much you’ve spent, you can only have one card saved on the app so I have to put in my new card details every time I book somewhere. It’s very confusing when booking for a group. I’ve tried to book 4 people and it’s booked for 1 person and 4 nights.
The majority of the app is great on the looking at your options and different hostels side of things but I’m currently trying to cancel a booking and there’s no way to do it. So stupid that I can’t see my bookings or where I have been. At the bottom it says I’ve been to 0 countries and 0 properties when I’ve booked on this app over 25 times now in 5 different countries.
The only way to see I’ve booked somewhere is to look at my email which again I must fill in every time as otherwise it’s just a random string of letter and numbers. Not sure what this is. Also the events chat doesn’t really work either

good option to book hostels
Why are prices in euros?
I’m in Canada booking a Canadian hostel. Why do the prices show up in euros and not in Canadian dollars?
Nobody ever answers the call, more expensive than other apps
You can never seek for proper help from the team, especially when it comes to some refund related issues. Nobody answers their phone call, like, never, EVER. Never use it again and when can you pay my deposit money back? Hope this company that runs like this could go bankrupt faster, the recession is coming anyway.
