Great Content, Decent Performance, Minor bug
I've used the NHK World News app ever since I discovered the station while I was an exchange student in Germany. I thoroughly enjoy the Japanese perspective on global world events, and in particular, I enjoy the train segments with their beautiful narration and landscapes.
I’ve updated my review to 4 stars since they’ve greatly improved the performance and reliability of the app! My only complaint now is that when I manually go to full screen mode, there is a pause button in the center of the screen that won’t go away until I press the closed caption button and press “off”!Show lesscanarybearer
Still no proper Chromecast support
I magically managed to get this app to cast to Chromecast on my TV a few weeks back at poor quality, and I tied to do it again today to no avail - it’s a buggy mess that needs a massive overhaul.stubbietubbie
App was good but...
This app was just fine before the recent updates. While you can Chromecast the live stream, there is no option to Chromecast the On-Demand episodes of every show. Please fix this issue!Duane'O

Where are all the shows??
I used to religiously watch the NHK channel on my cable service everyday. Having recently given up cable, I immediately downloaded the app. Very disappointed! Where are all the amazing documentaries and informative programs??

Bring back full casting please!
The app was great a few months ago. And then they did a huge update that removed the ability to cast the app to your TV. They’ve finally brought back some functionality of casting the live streaming. However you are still unable to cast individual shows you want to watch! Please bring back this function because it’s much easier to watch on the TV. New version is a disaster
The new version of this app is terrible. It is impossible to do a search, and the menu options no longer include sumo. It’s now not worth having and you are better off just going to the website.artsjourno
Live feed casts ok now
I got the live feed (use the icon in lower right on the screen) to work with Google Chromecast, but only after uninstalling the app and reinstalling. On Demand viewing isn’t castable, so you’ll have to use your tablet, laptop or PC for that - and more shows are available on the website (not this app) anyway! I love being able to watch the live feed on my TV by casting: I don’t need Pay TV to watch my favourite channel any more!Show lessDaryl von Launceston
NHK is First Rate Media !
Between the APP and NHK TV (antenna in my area) I have come to absolutely love their programming. It all started for us with their dramatic LIVE helicopter coverage of the Tsunami which devastated the Northeastern coast of Japan.
Now, I’ve slowly beome a fan of Japanese
culture through their wide ranging programming
in English.
Among my favorite programs include a roving narrator whom walks through neighborhoods all over the world and interacts with the inhabitants
in translated English. Kabuki is also a very interesting and finely nuanced art form...and fun to watch. Too much variety to describe here, but
I find myself tuned in more and more these days.

Few glitches
I can’t get the app to work on chrome cast for my TV.
Also, there is some glitching on the live stream, it will suddenly stop playing audio. When the audio resumes, the video will rewind a few minutes and start over again.
I love NHK I hope they are able to make the app even better!Foxtaled
