Great - if it would work

I’ve had Venmo for years and in theory love the convenience and ability to connect with it socially when paying for drinks or when my band gets paid, etc. - however - I am only able to fund my account (from any source, debit or external account) about 25% of the time. Far more often than not, I get an error message that doesn’t give a reason or explanation for the problem, and when I do, it’s a message saying “[I’ve] reached [my] transfer limit,” which should not ever happen, as my account is verified in every way possible through Venmo and through every other financial account I have. If this were a new app, I would understand these sorts of hiccups, but this thing has been around for what, over a decade now?
I’ve been back and forth with their support team at least a dozen times in the last year and a half to no avail. There hasn’t been a single time they’ve been able to help me at all (and I’ve checked with my external accounts, which all assure me they have no issues on their end. Venmo is the common denominator with these issues and I have no problems otherwise from my other accounts with other apps).
I really wish I could give 5 stars, as I would truly have no qualms or even suggestions for improvement with the app if it worked like it’s supposed to. Unfortunately though, it does not, and there doesn’t seem to be any effort being made to correct it.

Frustrating update (added clicks, hidden transaction descriptions, & resetting of scroll position)

I love Venmo but one of the recent updates is very frustrating and has made me dread using the app. In profile>transactions (I also don’t understand why wallet is the default tab instead of transactions — wallet is so secondary), you can’t see the descriptions of the transactions anymore. You have to click on the transaction, go to a new page, and when you go back it resets your scrolling position so you lose your spot. This means if you’re looking at transactions from a long time ago, you have to re-scroll all the way back down every time you want to see the description for each transaction — which you most likely do because you don’t remember what those transactions were for. This also means that if you lose track of which transactions you’ve already checked and click them again, you did all that re-scrolling for nothing. Then, sometimes when you do all that scrolling the app glitches and you have to force close the app, starting the whole process over. Why does it take literally 0 clicks to see other people’s transactions with descriptions, but 3+ clicks repetitively (plus endless scrolling & app-reopening) to see your own?? I just want to be able to scroll through my own transactions and see the descriptions like you can with other people’s profiles. This is how it was in Venmo’s original interface and I wish it could go back to that.

I have not been able to use my Venmo account for about 1 month maybe longer at first they said I needed a new card ok I ordered and received my new card and still nothing account not working, then they said we have to verify who you are ok I sent in pictures of my Drivers License and a picture of me holding my Drivers License next to my face, and then they wanted a copy of bank the statement that is linked to my Venmo account so i sent it in , and then they said they had to verify that account by sending 2 small deposits and when they arrived to my I had to tell them what those amounts were so when they were deposited into my account I verified it through my account and my Venmo account is still not working. At the beginning of this account suspension I was able to talk with someone about my account they told me that it was because of some suspicious transaction so I asked which ones so I can look at them and maybe explain what they were for but that didn’t know and that I had to go to the live chat and chat with somebody to resolve this and I was like really I was able to talk with someone a couple of more times but now I’m not given that option anymore it’s like they have me blocked from talking to a live person but still can’t use my account. I can get on my account and look at it but I can’t add money and nobody can send me money all I can do is look at my account cause i try to add money cannot add money please chats with up on the live chat

Waits until you add a decent amount of money and then freezes the account…

Transferred $90 into the account because it was working perfectly fine as long as the balance was only $5 or $25, but as soon as I sent the entire balance of my other bank account into it, which I was relying on to use over the weekend, they decided that was the moment to put a sudden hold on my account, holding my money hostage for several business days until they’re satisfied that I am who I say I am. I would’ve put the money somewhere else or left it where it was if I’d had any reason to suspect that it would suddenly stop working the moment I put my money in there… I only used the stupid app because it was more convenient and easy/free to send transfers to from PayPal. Now I’ve lost access to every penny I had set aside for food and other necessities this weekend. Will probably end up being assessed late fees for bills that will now not be getting paid. Awesome. If there was an issue with the account, why did they let me make it and accept my transfer? I, like most other people, do not thoroughly peruse the terms and conditions before I go about these things.

I guess I’m going to have to be more diligent in the future / will definitely not be using Venmo any longer. I like to be able to rely on my funds remaining available for at least an hour after I deposit them into an account that has no problem whatsoever accepting their receipt, but suddenly notices an issue once I go to spend them.

Garbage

Most frustrating experience ever when support is needed and attempting to contact,m. Given me nothing but problems every time when trying to resolve an issue, my gf has $40 stuck in her frozen account and accidentally deleted the email with instructions on how to fix the problem, when trying to find mmm deal with that problem the only reply she gets is follow instructions on the email sent, I’m having issues trying to send money and tried everything but just being denied with no explanation, no card compatible to transfer to instantly, won’t let me send to the person I’m trying to send money to, won’t let me send to their PayPal or anyone’s PayPal through Venmo, ordered card because that seems like it’s the only way I will be able to access the funds, had the card on Apple Pay, but that doesn’t help me send money bc they don’t have an iPhone, and had to setup Apple Pay again so need the 3 digits but can’t get into my account now, idc what the reason is it’s my account and I can verify my identity, it’s ridiculous having to deal with this stuff when there is no fraud going on both with my gf account and mine, plus having to wait days I’m guessing even if the email wasn’t deleted and for a reply to the email I sent just now about my issue, and having no other way to contact a real person, number is a robot chat bkt is a robot and it says chat on app which is probably a robot to but can’t get in my account anyway

Awful thieves and SCAMMERS

Do not EVER use Venmo, they take WEEKS to process purchases then they charge you 5 days later when you bought something yesterday, so while they can wait to take your money out of your account, wait not even your account they’ll take it out of any bank/ card you have as a backup yet the charge is technically coming from them, they froze my account for 2 weeks over a $2 charge, the dummies tried to charge me again so I closed my bank account so now they are scrambling to collect the money they want to steal, I hate this company so much, do not use them they are slow as processing any purchase, careful anytime you do transactions it will take from not only your Venmo account but your backup account if you have one linked, customer support is useless saying we are just trying to collect our funds, yeah I bet you are you scammers, well my bank account is closed and you don’t have the info to take money from it now cuz I’ve outsmarted them, they freeze your account even though you clearly have money in your account but they freeze it to get you to pay extra to them when they take so long to charge you for a purchase by the time they charge you you probably already spent the money, be aware of seeing ACH on your bank account cuz they will keep charging you over and over claiming you owe money to them, screw you Venmo go to h*ll, cashapp is going to put you out of business, so I’ll happy await your fall to ruin :)

Worst Customer Assistance Ever

First off, you can’t even call a representative, you have to chat through a online text service which is extremely frustrating. Second I was paid two separate payments over month spans of 20$ and 30$ equaling 50$ total. A month or so after the kid requested a refund and venmo authorized it with no proof, evidence, or anything showing he was “scammed”. I had screen shots showing him saying he never requested a refund and I have messages with the Venmo service team guaranteeing the money went back to his account. I have no clue why Venmo authorized that refunded transaction in the first place, but because I had already used that fifty dollars way before he requested the refund, my account was then frozen and I had to pay fifty dollars out of pocket to unlock my account. From this day forward I will only be using Zelle, Cash-app and Coin base, three far superior money transfer sites. I was an active user of Venmo for over 4 years and it was extremely frustrating when I had one problem, and they claim a specialist will help and it’s just an automated text telling you that they can’t do anything and that I have to pay them 50$ for a refund that never should’ve been authorized as it was months later and I have screen shots proving the kid is lying about not requesting a refund even though Venmo “team specialist” is the one who guaranteed he received it. Very unhappy and spent over 6 hours trying to communicate and resolve the problem.

They let hackers and thieves get away

I’ve used Venmo for years and have loved the ease of it. I’ve had no issues with them until recently. Both my credit card (not associated with Venmo) as well as my Venmo debit card number’s were stolen and hacked from someone online all within two days and were taken on a shopping spree. Luckily I have my notifications turned on whenever my Venmo card is used and as soon as two transactions came through that I did not do or recognize I went into my Venmo app and disabled my card and then proceeded to contact customer service. I let them know my debit card had been handed and I knew because my credit card was two days prior and I obviously did not mature the purchase. They canceled my card and sent me a new one. I submitted in a requests for a dispute to get the money back they had used and was told I would hear back from them from 1-10 days. In the same day I scouted the dispute they denied my disputes. I called into customer service the next day asking for a reason why my disputes were denied. They said my card was somehow there when the person made the transaction. They resubmitted a new claim for me to relook at the disputes and 2 days later they continued to deny me my money back I DID NOT SPEND. Even though they can see I disabled my card and contacted customer support immediately after the transactions were made to cancel my card and request a new one they are letting some thief get away with my money and I don’t get it back.

Used to be Great

I’ve had the WORST time dealing with Venmo for the past FIVE Months!! I deleted my previous account to completely start over new when I started having issues with that account (this is what the chat representative recommended). Created the new account, did all the verifications steps. My bank account was flagged and then it required to send photos of my drivers license and a photo of my banking account to match my account number and showing my name on the account (personal/private info was blacked out) they said everything checked out and was ready to go. Tried to do a test payment to a friend, wouldn’t work. They tried sending me a request as well. Wouldn’t work. Tried adding my bank card, wouldn’t work. That’s my only account I have, so I don’t have another to try to connect.

Spent weeks going back and forth on that one. They told me to delete that new account and connect again. Same issue, three more times. Even tried with my husbands info and no luck.

We do ALOT of sports and other activities where we NEED this Venmo account and I haven’t been able to use it or do anything and it’s an INCREDIBLY STRESSFUL issue that they apparently have “no resolution” to. Which makes no sense because we have no issues with PayPal who is through the same company.
