  • Wow, thank you for the iOS v14 update

ISub stopped working after upgrading to iOS 14 on my iPhone, I was very disappointed and was about to write a command. Then, I see the app had an update 17 hours ago (after years of no updates). Problem solved!!!

One request: please don’t show the auto cached songs because it clutters up my real downloads, which makes my downloads hard to navigate. Or, have a separate tab for user downloads, as opposed to auto cached songs.

Great app, have been using it for years.

Still my top used music/server connected app. However, I was just curious if you have ceased any further development on the app or not? The only reason I ask is that I have the iPhone 11 Pro Max (512GB HD) & everything works properly, but my main reason for using your app is the integrated EQ. But with the new larger screen portion making it not in proportion, when I try to adjust the EQ settings, the app crashes. I really hope there is a future update to correct this, but understand if you have hung up the overall development as we all have things change in life which take priority. Either way, thank you for a great app, even though I would love to be able to adjust the EQ. 😁

I'm right there with DJFraggle, thank you so much for your work & continued support for such a wonderful project, which defines the basis for your talent & development including open source as a whole & the result of the support of developers who have this talent of course, but, continued drive to make a success story created from nothing. Thank you once again!

  • Great after a rocky start!

I was one of the devoted Audiogalaxy users until it shut down last month. I was spoiled by AG's ease of setup and had significantly more trouble setting up Subsonic with iSub. However, Kudos to iSub's stellar and prompt tech support to help me get up and running, even when my router was stubbornly misbehaving. Now that I am fully operational, I am certainly pleased with iSub's function!

The fully customizable equalizer function is great. The performance of the app is solid, with no crashes. The customizable quality of stream bitrate is nice and allows a richer sound as desired. I can skip forward and back within a track easily. Subsonic with iSub organizes my music by folder, just as I do on my PC: it doesn't reorganize my own method and make things hard to find. And it has a search function to boot.

A final great suprise I found was its streaming of video files from my PC, which was of secondary importance to my music files. The playback quality with video is also customizable, and it converts nearly all video formats into playable videos for my iPhone on the fly. I can now (drumroll....) stream mkv files with fantastic quality effortlessly. The entire setup is not free, as you will have to pay a one time donation to use Subsonic service as well. But I'm sold and perfectly happy. And can't wait for more updates to come. I never type reviews but had to for this as my music is very important to me.

  • THE music player for iOS!

If you're a music lover with GIGS upon GIGS of music then this is the app for you. As a subscriber to iTunes Match iSub is still my "go to" solution to listen to my vast music collection. For me having iTunes Match is more of a plan b and piece of mind solution rather than my first stop. iSub loads faster and is just all around better player than Music app. I also love that I can manage a few extra user accounts for family and friends to have access to my music anytime anywhere. I use iSub on my iPhone and iPad, slick interface and very configurable. My MacPro at home has been online for almost 7 years now and my iTunes music library folder (about 300 gigs) server as the content for my Subsonic Server. I have tried other Subsonic streamers for iOS both paid and free and iSub is hands down the best. Simply put, if you are serious about your music collection as most are then spend 15 bucks on the Subsonic server after your 15 day trial is up, and spend the 4 bucks on THIS app. You'll be set. I KNOW if more people knew about this solution there's no doubt in my mind that it would be more popular. Oh and the developer of iSub is awesome. I've never personally sent a feature request or bug support but I know the developer responds. Thank you!

  • Far, far better than FTP, cloud-hosting, or internet radio!

    Its excellence:
This app communicates seamlessly with my little dsl subsonic server, has easy-to-set options that allow you to dynamically downsample in low-service areas (to improve playback), to custom set the buffer, and has a no-frills layout that makes navigating folders easy. It also catches errors and explains why they happened (e.g., if a song format can't be loaded server-side, iSub will politely tell you that the transcoding options likely haven't been set).

This is a stable app that is well-supported:
After mucking around with myriad apps, I somehow eventually managed to make this crash once. The developer e-mailed me and thanked me for the crash report, and told me about upcoming updates and etc. How cool is that?

  • Fantastic, if you understand what you are getting

It is VERY important to know that iSub requires a separate server application (Subsonic) from a separate developer, who requires a separate "donation". It is not trivial to set up, either. It has its own web-browser client, so try this out first. If you get it working, and are satisfied with its capabilities, THEN purchase iSub to bring it to the next level.

Now, as for iSub itself... It is *perfect* for my needs, and a joy to use. I have a long commute through spotty 3G service, so the caching and pre-downloading of content is a huge help. I am an audio snob and dislike lossy compression; iSub lets me cache my lossless CD rips in FLAC format, so I never worry if I'm missing the details. It can connect to multiple servers, so I can badger my friends into making their libraries available, too. It does not depend on a third-party service, so it can't disappear the way Simplify did.
It's not without its share of quirks and limitations, but the developer is very responsive to feedback and questions.

If you want something simple to set up that sounds "okay", use AudioGalaxy, at least until they decide to change their business model changes and shut it off. (I'm not sure about their privacy policies, too.) But if you want a powerful, high quality system under your own control, you can't beat the Subsonic/iSub combo.

  • Good app!!!

    V3.0.8
There is a problem with adding cached album to the playback queue. The loading sub-screen keep spinning and seems to be stuck when adding a cached album to the queue. It will crash eventually. (Update: from tweeter, this loading issue is addressed in the up coming 3.0.9. Thanks!)

Any chance to make this work with any certified DLNA server?

    Thanks!

    ====
I've been using this app for almost 2 years now. The new 3.0.6 version is a major improvement. Awesome, Ben!

As much as I like this app, I start to use it less often now since I have moved all my music to NAS box which offers DLN A service. This app can only work with subsonic server which I also have a license. However running a PC 24x7 is no longer an option for me (as it wears out all my HDD ). So NAS box with media server is serving all my movies and music now. IMO, I think this great app can get more users if it also works with any DLNA/ Upnp server which is very popular now. It will be more marketable than stuck to the subsonic server. Research into those dlna app for iPhone/ iPad and you will see how much demand for it.

I'm using 8player, media:connect, buzz player ... to stream music from media sever now. None is as good as this isub app. Too bad, it does not work with media server. Ben, if you happen to read this review, please research and consider it in the future release. But thanks for doing such a good job with this isub streamer.

  • Refreshing.

    3.0.7 Update...

Works great still. If you are having trouble with this app contact the developer. Tyler, I'm using a dyndns and it works perfectly fine. Of course that's until my ISP changes my IP and I have to update it.

    -----------------------------
    3.0.5 Update…

Huge improvement with this update. App was already great, now its just showing off. This update just made iSub 10x better!

EQ? Visualizer? Gapless? Lockscreen Art? Free update?!

So many new features. This has to be the best music app in the App store right now. Do yourself a favor and just buy it.

    --------------------------------------------
I've tried the other subsonic apps. I've tried the other music streaming apps. None are worthy of your time. This app has it all.

Most low star ratings are due to people not wanting to take the time to set up the server end, or because they don't like the idea of donating to get the api necessary to use this app. Let me tell you this…Once you set it up it's done after that. Yes, you do have to donate to go past 30 days, but it is a lifetime license and all future updates are free. Well worth it.

$25 bucks a year for iTunes match to stream music you already own at 256mb. Subsonic will allow you to stream it through iSub at higher bitrates and it's a one time donation. Well worth it.

  • Fantastic app

I have been using iSub with Subsonic and DynDNS as a backup server for well over a year now. iSub is hands down the best music streamer: Quick, responsive, and once properly setup, virtually trouble-free. At the beginning, if there was a problem I couldn't resolve, the developer was quick to respond and troubleshoot the issue.

For me, iSub's ability to pre-cache the next track while playing another is one of the most valuable features, and something other apps (such as Plex or iTunes Match) don't do well, if at all. iSub version 3.0.6 brings even more functionality and album data to an already brilliant app. If you want to listen to your personal music library whatever the size, from your iDevice wherever you are, this is the app to get. Highly recommended.
