  • New app is awful

    I usually use Getaround at least once a week and after this app change I’m never using it again. The amount of functionality you took away while also seemingly raising the prices and fees is insane. Not being able to locate a car in a parking lot makes it so much harder to find. There used to be live location now it just gives you the address. Took away 15 min increments and only allows for modifying the drop off time through a clunky feature. No more extend button. There’s too much competition for y’all to be ruining the experience this much.

  • Ripoff / Scam

    App overcharges with hourly rentals for nearly the same as Uber drivers make for the hour, yet claim cars can only be used for Uber. Then you are expected to fill up the tank on return, ultimately profiting little to nothing l, unless you’re making more than $20 an hour driving for Uber. Forget about profit for the hours you take breaks or run any errands. Flexibly is the whole point of doing Uber, but this app seems like a scam. The vehicle owners rarely clean and maintain their cars. I’ve had some with dead batteries and slow leaking flat tires. I reported a slow leak and the owner charged me a $50 improper return because I didn’t fix his tires. You will probably need to clean and maintain these vehicles out of pocket, while still on the clock and being charged an hourly rate often close to or more than $20 an hour when all the hidden fees such as insurance, taxes and roadside are talked into the total price. This app used to let you do daily and weekly rentals, but now the 1 or 2 cars that show up for weekly rentals in my metro area, have hefty hidden fees like $25 a day for insurance and/or $300 holds on your bank account for insurance purposes. It is way too easy for the vehicle owners to accuse you of damage or improper returns, and the app randomly charges $50 or more without asking you questions and giving you a chance to defend yourself. The app made sense 5 years ago before pandemic, but now it’s mostly a ripoff/scam.

    Very good experience, I will use the app and system again.
  • New check-in & out process is costly to renters

    I live downtown Chicago, without a car, and have used GetAround for years to attend appointments and complete errands.

    Today, when I arrived to my rental, I was not at all prepared for the extensive length that the check-in and check-out process now entails. Note: This is my first rental since the new app launched.

    I recognize the value/protection it offers the owner, but it inevitably uses 10+ minutes of the rental time - requiring me to extend future bookings to accommodate & ensure I’m not late to my appt. (Note: the app marked me as late today bc of this issue)

    Unfortunately, GetAround does not offer a 15-minute interval, just 30-minute minimum. Therefore, costing me even more.

    As a renter, I am extremely frustrated with GetAround for implementing this change without fully considering all the implications.

  • Bad Customer Support

    Terrible experience so far since I'm in Illinois converting from the other app. My security deposit hasn't been returned back after 10+ days. The customer support is awful because they clearly can't see the trips on my account for some reason. How do you work for the company but can't retrieve simple information like a trip. They refer back to old trips from the previous app and not from this one. It's nerve recking and annoying. I won't be using it anymore.

  • Still having troubles with this company,

    I gave this another try even though you all put me in a inconvenience AGAIN!!!! This time I travel in a Lyft and I took a screenshot of my location to the vehicle and it was not there and the owner wouldn’t pick up the phone for me or your customer service team, it’s hot I’m in a location that I’m not familiar with and dangerous in this time of day and time what am I to do this time I’m on vacation with my family on a budget and this has put me and my family in a financial disaster while I’m here and it’s gonna take 3-5 business days to return my money What am I to do NOW !!!!!!! Please contact me with a solution by text or by PHONE PLEASE!!!!!! I can provide a screenshot of proof location and the time of my destination and appointment time

  • New app won’t verify my info

    If the pain of signing up and verifying my info on the new app is any indication of how it is gonna work compared to the old one, I’m pretty nervous. I’ve gone through the actions at least 5 times and still can’t get my info verified. It certainly had no problem taking my money for a rental BEFORE my info has been verified. Looks like I’m gonna have to make phone calls and e-mails now. Great.

  • Getaround more like Get****ed

    You really need to judge a company by how they behaving when things are going wrong not when they’re going smoothly and this is why I will never use Getaround again. I rented a car in Rome. When I got there the car wouldn’t work. The battery was flat. I contacted getaround they were of little help, they just told be ti book another car with them. In the end the car owner managed to come and start the car and after about two hours in the searing heat with two young kids we got on our way. At the end of the hire I took the car back a couple of hours later, about the same time it was broken down for the start, they charge me another entire days rental for this privilege despite me ringing up beforehand and was given the advice to go head and make the extension and I could claim the refunded afterwards, Also they charged me as the back of the car was dirty even though it was already dirty when I picked it up. The before and after photos clearly show this. I’ve been passed around to different people despite asking for senior management, none of them had the authority or presence, simply starting small ping in the legals. On occasions you may save money here, but if things go wrong you will pay a lot more and you will also be on your own.

  • I NEED HELP

    I’m and Illinois resident so now I’m forced to download and use this version of the app. When I login using the original app I use my Facebook account as my login method. No other method ever worked (I’ve tried in the past). Now when I try to login into the new app with my Facebook account or any of my account info I get error. It’s because it’s a bug in the app that take me to the SIGNUP screen instead of the LOGIN screen even when I tap login. I can’t get into the app and I rent a car every week.

  • Extortionate and unfair charging

    Don’t download this app. I was charged an extra 50% of my rental fee for returning the car 1.5h late on a 10h rental. This might have been ok but I was assured by the car owner that I wouldn’t be charged anything extra as I’d hired it for the whole day. Getaround claimed that this was wrong, that they aren’t responsible for communication from the owner and that the extra 50% was required to cover insurance. And yet they ask you to speak to the owner for any issues. The scale of the fee is not proportionate and is therefore illegal as a penalty clause. As is the mistaken advice. I’ll be seeking to reclaim the fee but would recommend others not to use the service at all.

    The update below from the developer still misses the point. I was specifically told that I’d hired the car for the whole day and wouldn’t be charged extra. And then I was charged anyway. Wrong wrong wrong

    Hello, Thank you for taking the time to let us know about your rental, I'm sorry to hear that you are unhappy with your experience. If you know you're running late to bring the car back, make a request to extend the rental, otherwise you won't be covered by our insurance. If you return the vehicle later than expected, you'll owe £15 per started hour of lateness. A grace period allows for the vehicle to be returned up to 29 minutes before charging additional fees. Past 30 minutes, a late fee is applicable and charged by the hour. You will also be required to pay for any additional rental duration not charged, alongside fuel and mileage adjustments.
