  • Customer Support/Shady Charges

    I’ve spent quite a lot on this platform and need to get away from it. I’ve had issues with support since the start of renting. Easily have rented five figures and I wish I had spent the money elsewhere.

    I’ve had issues with near every field of support. A rental is not returned and support expects you to cancel or get to a new location without understanding of the situation or warning before your rental time starts. I’ve been booked into vehicles I didn’t agree to by support and then they couldn’t reverse the damage so I’m out time as well as my original rental. In my 50+ conversations with support, maybe once I left the conversation satisfied.

    You will sign up for charges that are automatically billed even if you didn’t use the service and support has no idea how to channel disputes or gather further information. Currently disputing with my bank as I’ve been charged several hundred dollars for tolls I never used. Getaround doesn’t check the charges but sits by for any update so hopefully your rental owner can communicate better than support.

    Sincerely hoping I don’t have to rent from this platform in the future and would advise others to look at more supportive options.

    I had a car on the platform and had a few trips with cars and it was chaos. They were not paying out claims, they weren’t helping with broken down cars.

    Their cars get much more expensive the closer to the to the time of your rental which is fine, until you’re on a business trip on the other side of the country and they cancel your car that you were planning on renting. Then when you try and book a new one in the same price point there aren’t any… and are no rentals available and you end up having to pay a couple hundred dollars more for a gross car that wreaks of cigarettes and has leftover ash on the seat where your business partner has to sit.

    There are a lot more reasons like getting rid of the best people there and not prioritizing the correct things that a company should prioritize. I would in led go for Turro

  • New app & Cust. Service DISASTER

    Why would you roll out a new app and deactivate the old one before you have migrated all your customers' accounts? That's shows some very poor decision making quality in their accounts management/user interface/app development departments.

    you've just screwed over hundreds, thousands of longtime patrons.

    ... It appears they deactivated my old account with the rollout of this new app because it could not log me in and it would not send me a password reset email after several attempts.

    And you can't access customer support without being logged in .

    so it forced me to create a 2nd/new account just to talk to customer service which then you have to wait hours for.

    at first I thought it was just an issue with cookies since the new app was not accepting the password I've had for about a year. I clicked on password reset two times never received an email checked all of my folders including Spam. After my third attempt to request a password reset I was told there's no such account with the email I've used for the past four or five years. What name and you can't even talk to customer service directly anymore and you can't even email them without being logged into the app so I was forced to create a new account. INEXCUSABLY POOR

  • be aware

    This app comes with a lot of warnings before you hit the road, but be careful of the app as well. some vehicles have faulty fuel gauges or sensors, leaving you to pay for the excess when it doesn’t register. Getaround help does not exist, you will only be able to contact them via email (which they simply do not care about).
    In addition, letting a friend log into their account to check any status will also lock out your account, though they are in no way connected.
    They will take your money , and then some, leaving you no way to directly contact them, there is no clear response.

  • Unacceptable

    They recently switched the app and the transition between accounts has been a disaster. What should have been a seamless transition turned into a whole circus. After having to create a whole new profile, they don’t tell you that you have to wait anywhere between 5 to 24hrs to be verified. But they will allow you to book a trip. I needed to book a trip same day. They took my money, and then didn’t inform me that I need to wait to be verified. Needless to say, I arrived to pick up the car, but could gain access to it without being verified first. After being on hold several times and speaking to an agent, they told me I had to wait before being able to access a car and would return my money within 7days. I missed my 8:15pm dinner reservation with my family celebrating a birthday. I was so frustrated and saddened. What then sent me over the edge, after requesting some type of compensation, they only offered a 10$ credit. Unacceptable. I currently have a coupon from the app for 30$ on my first first trip on the new app but you can only give me 10$ after all this fiasco!! They wouldn’t transfer me to a supervisor and the operator did not send confirmation email with her information either. Absolute madness with these people. DO NOT USE THEM!

  • Horrible

    This company is horrible there is always a issue with the cars, I have been stranded several times. I’m stranded right now as I write this review and on the phone with a representative. I had a rental with bad tires, I couldn’t drive the car all day spent my money trying to get it repaired and get a donut placed on the car and I was not accommodated at all. I return the car and now the app is having issues booking another car for me and the representative said they can no longer book a trip on my behalf. They try to blame me saying it’s my card when I’ve been using the same card that I’ve been extending with all week. I’m currently waiting in the city late at night with no car. I hope I don’t get robbed or stabbed cause getaround sure didn’t make sure my safety was a priority.

  • Getaround is a ripoff!

    It was my first time renting. The app malfunctioned preventing me from ending the trip on your books even though I returned the car on-time. Since you don't have after-hours phone support there was no one I could talk to about it. And this being a weekend, there is no one with whom I can talk to about you all ripping me for $614 this afternoon on the basis that I did not return the car on time which I did. I am done with getaround! I want those charges refuned after which I will close my account. Furthermore, I will relate this experience in the loudest way possible to my community. If nothing else, I will advise that they avoid you for lack of after hours phone support. How can you even run an enterprise like yours without that?

  • This is a terrible upgrade

    I don’t like this at all and they are pushing high insurance prices on vehicles and taxing way more than usual this is starting to become a rip off…. I would recommend people find a better way to rent cars… I usually purchase cars to work from but this is ridiculous.. I think I will rather use a different rental car service.. hold $100-$5k for the course of 7-8 days how am I able to rent a car multiple times within a week if something comes up unexpectedly??

  • Terrible experience with hidden fraud fees and no support

    I am giving this rental app a 1 star rating because they charged me for damage I did not cause and their support was a total letdown. Trying to fix the problem was a waste of time - hours on the phone with barely any service, and they couldn't even show me proof of the damage they claimed. It feels like once they have your money, you're on your own. Definitely wouldn't recommend; the hassle and hidden fraud fees aren't worth it.

  • Can’t Getaround Anymore

    I’ve been using Getaround for ~ 6 years. Loved how convenient and relatively affordable it was to find and rent a car in my area. This month, Getaround made major policy changes that include requiring a massive security deposit as well as an increase in prices. You’d think making major changes like that they’d consider some communication to their long time users. Nope. You just find out when you upload their new and improved app. It all seems very shady. Good luck trying to talk to a real human about it. Getaround makes it nearly impossible to talk to someone about issues that aren’t related to an active trip. Prior to these upgrades, I’d have given the app 5 stars. It’s sad that my several thousands of dollars spent using the app won’t be any more valuable than this review.
