Description of CBT

CBT-i Coach is for people who are engaged in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia with a health provider, or who have experienced symptoms of insomnia and would like to improve their sleep habits. The app will guide you through the process of learning about sleep, developing positive sleep routines, and improving your sleep environment. It provides a structured program that teaches strategies proven to improve sleep and help alleviate symptoms of insomnia. CBT-i Coach is intended to augment face-to-face care with a healthcare professional. It can be used on its own, but it is not intended to replace therapy for those who need it. CBT-i Coach is based on the therapy manual, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia in Veterans, by Rachel Manber, Ph.D., Leah Friedman, Ph.D., Colleen Carney, Ph.D., Jack Edinger, Ph.D., Dana Epstein, Ph.D., Patricia Haynes, Ph.D., Wilfred Pigeon, Ph.D. and Allison Siebern, Ph.D. CBT-i has been shown to be efficacious for insomnia for both Veterans and civilians. CBT-i Coach was a collaborative effort between VA’s National Center for PTSD, Stanford School of Medicine, and DoD’s National Center for Telehealth and Technology. CBT-i Coach works with the Apple Health app and Fitbit.

Reviews of CBT

  • Pocket guide for your sleep issues

I was introduced to this app many years ago by a sleep therapist and have been using it for the progressive muscle relaxation. Recently I started having sleep issues again and turned to it for the sleep diary (while reading Hello Sleep book) and it’s been wonderful! So easy to use. And my sleep is getting better already. It’s probably more helpful if you already have some knowledge of insomnia, like you’ve been though a CBT-i or are aware of the concept. Anyway love this app and really appreciate all the tools it provides.
  • Still not there yet

This app *looks* user friendly and aesthetically pleasing, but it’s really clunky and still very basic. I appreciate the effort to get more of these tools out for people who need them. But the things I found that I liked were either removed, or it took way too long to find them again. It’s not easy to navigate at all, and you’ll find yourself in loops of trying to get back to the 1 or 2 things you might find useful or unique. Again, thanks for the effort - I was getting stressed just trying to get back to the tools I liked. Maybe they were removed? So it’s making me feel crazy too! Eh, not good I guess.
  • 10/10 recommend

I have been struggling with insomnia this year and was feeling really hopeless with it. The educational resources on this app have helped me feel validated with my struggles. I regularly use the sleep diary to feel like I have more mindfulness and control over my sleep again. I am deeply appreciative that this resource is free and easily accessible.
