Poorly Run, Not Secure At All
For a few months, a malicious user has been ordering rides after adding my email to their account. I never had a Bolt account before this happened. I tried to contact support to get that account banned--they could not help me if I didn't have my own account to contact their support staff from. So I downloaded the app and made an account to report this fraudulent activity. They have not been able to help me.
If you want to commit fraud on Bolt, it's pretty easy: first, make an account with any email address. Second, change the account's email address to literally any other address. You do not need to verify either address to order, board, complete, and pay for rides. Only downside is that whoever gets your trip summaries knows where you are in nearly real-time.
All the emails I've received on behalf of Beeby in Johannesburg say "Your safety is our priority." This is clearly a lie, and you should not trust this company or this app with your personal information or your money. I ordered a delivery and the price was 2400 naira. The driver asked me to pay 3500 and I told him I would pay him 3000 and nothing more ( I have screenshots of this conversation).
The driver arrived and after I paid him, he refused to give me my package until I pay him extra.
I refused and he spend about 15 minutes yelling at me and telling anyone who was around that he won’t give me my product. I left him there because I was uncomfortable, and contacted the bolt customer service who told me that I didn’t have to pay more than was offered on the app.
They said they’d contact him, so I went back to the gate. When I got there I saw my package with a guard, opened and used. I asked them what happened and they said he opened my package and “dashed” them. I contacted customer service after some back and forth, they told me that the driver said he didn’t use the product, and I agreed to the price change. When I asked them how they planning to compensate me for my opened and used product, they said I should go and collect it from the guards. That’s all! Like I should be grateful for that!
I am extremely disappointed with bolt, I’ve been a user for years but after this, I am uninstalling the app. You’ve definitely lost a customer. If you want to be in the courier industry, atleast try performing the basics required in that industryShow lessEasy to use but spotty
This app was easy to use and set up (we are from US). This service is cheaper than Uber and the taxis from what we have found. Vehicles/drivers are much nicer than taxis and drive better with more comfort. The only issue I have is that the drivers will cancels the rides a lot in the beginning. Maybe they see the destination and decide they don’t want to end up there. Also twice we have been waiting on drivers and the time never goes down. They accept the ride but don’t move towards your destination for some reason. Annoying after waiting and wasting the time waiting for them. Maybe this is just a European thing. Used Bolt in Barcelona, Cas Cais and Lisbon. Typically fast friendly and cheap! 35 min ride from Cas Cais to Sintra was only $13. The bus for three of us would’ve been almost $9, and much longerShow less
