It’s certainly better than nothing
One thing to be aware of is that it will mark some calls from doctors or anyone at medical facilities (and some veterinarians, I see in comments) or other healthcare-related companies as possible spam. If you get a lot of calls from doctors or related to healthcare, leave this on the most permissive setting so the call will go through, even though marked as possible spam. I’ve *never* had a doctor’s call or similar get blocked automatically, but if I had a stricter setting, they would have been blocked. I communicate with doctors often enough that if I’m expecting an important call related to medical stuff I pick up calls marked as possible spam. If not expecting one, I may let it go to my voicemail, but that’s fine with me since likely not urgent in any case.
Free Version Works Great
It allows you to set up the risk level of calls and it definitely filters them showing they are potentially spam. You can definitely see the caller ID as the call is coming through and it allows the caller to leave a voicemail mail even though the call is filtered. You can unblock the number if it is not spam or leave it blocked.
Personally, I’ve been pleased with the free version. I’m sure the Plus does even more but for basic functionality - this works great and they have kept improving.

Useless
Update, well they updated the app. It still lets loads of spam calls through (more than it blocks). It also blocked calls coming from a doctor’s landline as “VoIP, and this is an office at a major university hospital. Without notification when it happened. They still want us to pay for the “better” service with this?

A Very Lonely APP
So, the cons?
As I said, I opened the APP 7 days ago. TODAY I get another notice that the APP has not seen me for awhile? It’s an APP you shouldn’t need much interaction with! This has not been the first time this APP does this. I myself wondered if this APP was still working and opened to see that not only it was, but had a few Spam calls that the APP apparently never notified me of. No big deal, just pointing it out. This APP can go months without sending you notices, even when it blocks calls. Then out of nowhere start sending you “Call Filter Has Not Seen You For Awhile” notices; even when it has been only a matter of days!
Again, not a big deal for me, just saying; the important function of blocking calls seems to work fine, but notices? While I haven’t had an important call blocked; I don’t always get notices when it does blocks, and do get notices when the APP appears to be missing you, whether it has been months or just a few days.
This never gives you the name of spam callers.
I was told I’d have a 30 day free trial for this update of call filter. It’s 3.99 after the fact when I got my first bill, I was billed a total of nine dollars and some change which means I never got the free trial and I feel that this should be a free program. You should never have to pay for spam protection from a company that you are using their service. You shouldn’t have to pay extra to be able to block these calls automatically and whatever other features it has that you have to pay, for it should all be free for this particular thing due to the fact that we get so many spam calls throughout our entire world. I could see if you were playing games or other items that would need to be purchased but to have Spam Block call have to purchase it to get a higher process of the Spam Block I disagree I stopped it. I took it off my phone because they overcharged me and I never according to what I’m looking at on my bill so goodbye to this program it’s not good at all

Nearly worthless
Don’t be fooled by Verizon’s quick responses to reviews. It’s all a show. The company arguably has the best network but the worst customer service. When working this issue, their support person was immediately baffled. The solution offered: They could help me uninstall the app and cancel the monthly $3.99 charge. No offer to get with a developer of the app to see why it’s failing, no answer on how the app’s call log is supposed to work. This is SOP for Verizon. For years, every interaction (no exaggeration) with Verizon customer service has been riddled with baffling incompetence.

Charge for spam filter???
The app is a scam - updated review
ORIGINAL REVIEW: To get anything useful with the app, you have to pay. Very misleading for Verizon to say this is included with my already very expensive cell phone plan but then charge you for any of the features that actually make the app worthwhile. I’ve been with Verizon for over 20 years, but they just want to nickel and dime for features that should already be included. I’m so over it. I can’t wait to pay off my call phone and switch to a different carrier this year.
